Chapter 5
Johnathan woke to the bell which sounded louder than usual, and saw that Albert was already dressed and ready.
“Good morning, I bet you heard the extra loud bell right?” He asked.
I nodded, “Ya, why is it so loud.”
“Oh I didn’t hear it, it’s just for the people who slept in.” Albert said smiling, “What’s your first class?”
After getting dressed and talking to Albert about classes for a bit he got it down, he found his schedule on his desk and saw he had his Races class first. Albert informed him there wasn’t a teacher put in place for that class yet so it would just be the Master Knight teaching it, which for Johnathan was alright. The Master Knight was a cool guy, just super overpowered. Like Ms. Gorgan. Anyway Johnathan quickly made his way through the building, getting class locations from a teacher. He went down one floor with Albert, but split up when he had to go to the first floor. Johnathan said goodbye and that they’d see each other during Basic Combat class, then turn a few corners to get to the Races class. On his way he saw his basic magic class, Basic Combat class, and even the Gods class he’d be attending tomorrow. He tried to push out all the distraction though and went into his first class.
When he entered he wasn’t surprised to see the Master Knight starting the class, he smiled warmly at Johnathan. “Welcome all new students, please find a seat.”
The classroom itself didn’t look magical, and looked like a normal classroom. Johnathan sat at a seat in the middle and to the left of the room, he had a good view of the room and started looking at his classmates. Some were humans, like himself, but there were also elves and some people with horns and large teeth. They also had knocked knees, so they were probably faster than him.
When the bell rang the Master Knight smiled to the classroom, “Welcome everyone, to the new school year!” He said, a few people cheered and whistled. Johnathan just clapped his hands. “For those of you who are new this is a class where we learn of the diverse community of the multiverse, Humans, Elves, Supers, and Demons alike. This class is meant to help create balance and a well rounded knowledge on the multiverse we live in, now we will start with differences and alikeness. Who knows what’s different about each other, turn to the person next to you and discuss what it’s like for your kind and where you come from.”
Johnathan thought it was kind of cool how the Master Knight taught his class so far, hands on learning. Cool. He turned to a demon girl, who turned to him as well. “I’m Johnathan, I’m a human from earth. Technically New York to be specific. How about you?”
She smiled, “I’m Naamah, I come from a small village in Romania, the realm of the demons.”
After talking for a bit I learned a bit more about Demon culture, and how their Emperor was recently killed by a hero known as the new Emperor. Johnathan became invested in the story, but the Master Knight called for everyone’s attention.
“Alright, now that we have become familiar with other races. We are going to, one by one, bring people up to the front to talk about who, what, and what their class is.” He said. Johnathan flinched, but knew it was fine.
One by one students came up and presented themselves, and Johnathan became more and more calm. All the people in there each had slightly different classes and races, and it made him feel better. When he went up it was a piece of cake, all he had to do was tell them his origin and what he was. Some gasped, but then accepted it and moved on. When the bell rang, everyone got their stuff and left the room.
Johnathan checked his schedule to see that the class the Master Knight promised he’d learn something in was next, and he was really excited to see what it would be like. He ran out of his Races class downstairs and around the far side of the building to enter into a new classroom, where multiple students stood, and the Master Knight taught. Johnathan smiled, he was excited, yet terrified. He looked around the room, noticing some students were older. He sat down in a seat in the front and started taking down notes.
“Welcome to the new year students! We shall not be talking about the timeline today as I want to review old magic spells for us to be ready. I’m sure most of you remember the Freeze Blast spell?” Multiple people started creating swirling balls of energy in their hands, and smiling. “Good good, let’s review the spell shall we?” The Master Knight turned to the board. I looked into the bag that was given to me in the duffle bag, and found a notebook and pencil to write in. The Master Knight wrote down the words, Freeze Blast. Then the words, Molocatetelinwente Cosnisoyomito. When I wrote them down they seemed like gibberish to me, but the Master Knight started lecturing about the spell. “Now as some of you remember this spell freezes a person in time for about 5 minutes when hit, though there is no actual recorded time for how long it is done for. This spell costs eight mana, and is used quite frequently by Cronomancers…” The Master Knight kept going on about the uses of the spell, while Johnathan kept thinking of the words he’d written down, they made no sense, did these actually give him magic? “Johnathan.” A calm but deep voice said, Johnathan looked up from his journal. “Do you want to try this spell or not?”
The Master Knight led them to the back of the room, which he motioned for and opened up into a large hall. Then he snapped his fingers and summoned some kind of stone warrior, “This is a Rock Warrior,” Close enough, “It has the only need but to serve the knights, and it will as I have summoned it.” He snapped his fingers again and multiple other Rock Warriors emerged from the ground. The Master Knight then motioned to the other wall and it expanded as well, “Now, try and shoot the rock warriors…” Seemed easy enough, “While they're attacking you.” Not easy. “When they are all frozen I shall tell you when to stop.” He snapped his fingers again, and the rock warriors started moving toward them.
Johnathan stepped back a bit, but some of the other students ran in and used different time spells on them. Johnathan shook his head, “You can do this, you're a mage.” He said. He ran into the fight, and immediately a giant rock warrior raised its arm to hit him. Johnathan’s eyes widened, “Molocatetelinwente Cosnisoyomito” A bolt of energy flew from Johnathan’s hand and the Rock Warrior stopped moving, Johnathan smiled, and ran aside the warrior. He saw a student being carried by a rock warrior and was about to get thrown across the room. Johnathan scowled, “Molocatetelinwente Cosnisoyomito” Another bolt of magic flew from Johnathan’s hand and the rock warrior froze, giving the other student enough time to get out of its grasp.
He smiled at Johnathan, “Thanks kid!”
Johnathan wasn’t a fan of being called ‘kid’ but he did like that he saved the guy, he nodded back. Then continued to go through the horde of Rock Warriors, one was about to smash a girl. “Molocatetelinwente Cosnisoyomito” Johnathan said, a blast of magic went straight from Johnathan’s hand into the monster's chest. The girl realized this and moved quickly, then Jackson helped somebody up. A strange feeling started going through him. He’d always thought people were always stronger than him and thought they would make fun of him, so he’d always responded with anger. Now he was helping people who were stronger than him, and who actually thanked him. Soon after saving many more of his classmates the Rock Warriors were all frozen in time, and the Master Knight clapped his hands together.
“Well done everyone,” He looked at the clock, “And as always in record time.” The bell rang, and the room shrank back to the size it once was. The Rock Warriors were all gone. Johnathan was grabbing his bag when a hand was put on his shoulder, “Hello Johnathan, how are you liking the MDSC and its magic? Did you like your first spell?”
Despite almost being killed by giant rock monsters Johnathan nodded and smiled, “Ya, I’m really liking it here. Also the magic is really cool, and your first class was really cool as well.”
The Master Knight nodded, “Thank you, but that class will not be taught by me next year. So I am doing my best for the last year. How about your new spell? Try casting it without the command words now, just think of the words.”
Johnathan didn’t know why, but he understood. He lifted his arm and thought of the words power, then he thrust out his arm and a bolt of energy exactly like the spell he was casting before erupted from his arm.
“Perfect!” Said the Master Knight, “You’ll be all set for next year at this rate, and trust me the year will fly by.”
