Chapter 6
The rest of the day flew by, and all he could remember was the awesome talk in forbidden magics class, and the introduction into alchemy. He’d seen Albert in basic combat class, but was too invested in the class to tell him what he’d learned. Eventually their break time came by and Johnathan went to go look for Albert in their room, when he went there he found Albert trying some kind of light spell. He was creating a light in his hand on one arm, and then moving the light into the other hand on the other arm.
When he looked up from his practice he smiled, “Hey Johnathan! Look what I learned.” He put out his lights and extended his hand to a torch on the wall, the fire of it dimmed and died. Then the light of the fire came to Albert and could easily be moved from one hand to another, “What have you learned?”
Johnathan smiled, and summoned a small time spell in his palm. “I learned the spell called freeze blast, and it’s really useful to use during combat. Trust me I figured that out the hard way.”
Albert smiled, “Anything else? Because I don’t think you're ready for a wizard battle just yet.”
“What wizard battle?” Asked Johnathan.
“Sometimes they do battles in magic combat, but no offense, with your magic level I mean. We could always study…”
“Let’s study!” Johnathan said excitedly, “Wait, did you just get me to study?”
Albert smiled, “I’m evil that way.”
For the next few months this was my life, going to classes and learning magic, studying and hanging out with Albert, and transferring between the two. The amount of Magic I was able to learn was incredible, and he was pretty sure he was ready for a wizard battle come thursday.
“Alright, so go over it again?” Asked Albert. They were in the library getting Albert to learn some illusion spells.
“Alright, it’s Wolocatenimitote Hansssetesoyohanwp.” Johnathan said once more, hopefully trying to help his friend get the spell. The library was a large room on the second floor of the school, it had a plethora of old and new books of magic. Each one had something new and weird in it, Johnathan had found a spell in a book that made an illusion of the one being cast on to have a giant toe. Albert strongly disagreed with the mastery of this spell though.
“Ok,” Albert said, “Wolocatenimitote Hansssetesoyohanwp.” A bird appeared in front of them, and it chirped. Albert smiled, “It worked!”
Johnathan looked at it, “Um, are you sure? It just looks like you summoned a bird.”
Albert smiled, “Try to pet it then.” He whispered something, but Johnathan decided to ignore it. Johnathan tapped the bird and the bird's mouth opened wide and clamped onto Johnathan’s arm, but Johnathan didn’t feel anything. Albert was just laughing at his surprised face.
“It’s not real is it?” Johnathan asked. Albert, still laughing, shook his head. Jonathan shot him with a freeze blast, and waited five minutes for the spell to wear off. When it did Albert jumped.
“Hey!” He said.
Johnathan shrugged, “You trick me I trick you.” He smiled.
Albert waved him off, “How about you? Are you going to try learning a melee spell to fight with? Because right now your spell wheel doesn’t have many harmful spells.”
Johnathan thought for a second, “You're right, I can freeze and confuse people but I can’t really do anything else huh?”
Albert shook his head, “Nope.”
Johnathan nodded, “What I need is something like what the Xeno Force has.” Then he remembered what had happened: supposedly the Xeno Force had all died fighting Velmora, a new magical threat to the world. “Ya, let’s try those melee spells.” He opened a page of a book to find a spell called chained knife, “How do I do this one?”
Albert looked at it, “Wocomnihanptesa Zoiphanmote” He said, but didn’t cast.
Johnathan looked up and waved his hand, “Wocomnihanptesa Zoiphanmote” A wave of space waved around where Johnathan had been pointing, and a knife connected to a chain flung out. Johnathan used one of his new spells, See Motion, to sense the incoming weapon. He grabbed it out of the air, and the chain stopped coming out.
“Good catch.” Albert said.
“Thanks.” Said Johnathan, he twirled the chain in his hand. Then he thrust it out and pulled it back with ease. “I think I like it.”
“Then you're ready for our next class.” He said, and just like the world was listening in on their conversation, the bell rang.
Johnathan nodded, “I think I am.”
