(Ben’s POV)
I never thought that she would reveal herself to us.
‘Does that mean we will die?’
“Joan..” Mrs. Abby said
“It looks like you’re not scared of me, Abby?” Ms. Joan replied
“Why? Why did you trapped us here on a deserted Island?” Mrs. Abby asked while crying in anger.
‘Deserted Island? Is that why Mrs. Abby looked pale when she saw the sea?
The moment Mrs. Abby said that, that is also the time I give up.
‘There’s no way we can survive in this hellish place.’
The tears fell on my eyes. I can’t hide the fear I felt inside.
Fear of death.
From that moment, I remember my friend. Is this how she felt when they faced them?
“Hmm… that’s not the right way of asking questions. Instead, ‘who trapped us here?’ right?” Ms. Joan said.
“Please… please spare Ben! You can freely eat me! But spare this young boy! He didn’t do anything wrong!” Mrs. Abby pleaded.
“What? Didn’t do anything wrong? Who? Ben? Are you serious?” Ms. Joan said and she got mad.
“He’s the reason why all of you went outside of the shelter and broke the rules! And you’re telling me he didn’t do anything wrong? If he let go of his feelings towards his friend nothing like this would happen! None of you would die!” she said angrily.
Now I understand…
It’s all my fault.
If I didn’t let Jenny go on her way to the forest… If I didn’t let the adults help me.. None of this would happen.
I’m the cause of all this.
I am the one who killed them.
“Ben!! Don’t listen to her!” Mrs. Abby said
Mrs. Abby was kind. I know she said that to comfort me.
“We will get out of this hell.” Mrs. Abby said while crying.
“Don’t be too delusional, Abby. This is the end for the two of you.” Ms, Joan said
The tentacles behind Ms. Joan’s back turned out to be too long to reach us. Mrs. Abby forced herself to stand up and she pulled me up. The tentacles failed to stab us but it followed us wherever we ran. We ran to the shore of the sea. While running, we saw a boat not too far away from us. When we saw that, a hope of surviving through this place brightened up our way.
I thought it was our chance to live outside this place.
But luck isn't on our side.
We didn’t know that Ms. Joan caught us too soon. She hid herself in the fog and surprised us with her attack. We stumbled on the ground and got stabbed through her. Mrs. Abby managed to shield me from the attacks before we went on the ground. But I knocked my head on the rock near the shore and made me unconscious.
(Abby’s POV)
I managed to protect Ben when we got attacked but he hit his head from the rocks.
But the most worrisome was the tentacles.
It pierced through my body and that’s the reason Ben got slightly stabbed. The sharp edge of the tentacles wasn't buried deep inside of Ben’s body, so I think that there’s still a chance for him to survive.
But Joan didn’t want us to survive. So she tried to go push her tentacles to Ben’s body. I tried to stop her but my energy goes slow because of the wounds and stabs that I get. My only wish is for him to survive.
It doesn’t matter if I died here.
I turned away when I saw the teenagers getting eaten outside years ago. I turned a blind eye to those people who left the shelter. I know from the start that there’s something wrong with here but I kept silent about it. It’s my fault that these innocent young children got involved. If I planned something before, this wouldn’t happen!
All of those regrets were too late for me. All I need to do is to free Ben from this place. He needs to escape here!
But fighting Joan was difficult, especially because she's a monster!
As I tried to stop her tentacles, my vision started to blur and my grip from her started to lose.
‘I need to focus! I need to be strong!’
I saw my blood on the sand. My blood runs out on me. I need to hurry before I pass out…
Before I die here.
Out of nowhere, I took a glance at a big rock near the boat. I’m not sure if I’m seeing things because of the blood loss but I saw a man with an arrow and he’s targeting something.
I looked back and I saw Joan.
My mind was telling me that he’s targeting Joan.
“Give up, Abby.” Joan said while smiling creepily.
‘Please… kill that monster!’ my mind said.
My hand got loose and my body didn't have any strength.
I fell down to the sand.
As I lay down, I saw Joan lay down too. Even if my sight were blurry, I know that the arrow got through her head.
Finally…
She’s dead.
I took a glance at the man and said…
“P-Please… save the k-kid.. Take him away from here.” As I said that, my breath fades away too.
