Ji-Hoon was leaving his lab when the first drop fell.

Then another.

Then a hundred more.

Within moments, the world transformed. Rain came down like it had been holding back for too long, soaking through shirts and shoes, making umbrellas useless for the unprepared.

Ji-Hoon sprinted across the quad, head bowed, arms hugged around himself. The library was closest, its glass doors glowing like a lighthouse in the storm. He pushed through them, breathless and dripping, the roar of rain chasing him inside.

Here, the world was quiet. Safe.

He raked a hand through his damp hair, trying to shake the cold from his fingers. Should he go back to the dorms? Or stay until it passed? The storm didn’t look like it would end soon.

So he wandered.

Through the aisles.

Past the reference shelves.

Back to the hidden corner tucked between poetry and history.

And, of course—

Min-Soo was already there.

Sitting cross-legged on the floor, headphones hanging loose around his neck, a novel open in his lap. He looked up at the sound of footsteps and smiled as though he’d been expecting him.

“You found your way back,” Min-Soo said, tilting his head.

Ji-Hoon blinked. “You always here?”

Min-Soo chuckled softly. “Only when it rains.”

“…It just started.”

“Exactly.”

Ji-Hoon hesitated, then sighed and sat down across from him, careful not to soak the carpet. He shrugged off his wet hoodie and folded it beside him.

Min-Soo slid a coffee cup toward him—still warm.

“I had a feeling,” he said.

Ji-Hoon frowned at it. “You brought two?”

“I like being right.”

Ji-Hoon took the cup. Silence filled the space between them, but this time it wasn’t heavy. It was shared.

“I used to love the rain,” Ji-Hoon murmured, eyes on the tall windows.

“What changed?” Min-Soo asked carefully.

Ji-Hoon thought for a long moment.

“It became something I connected with being alone.”

Min-Soo studied him, no teasing in his voice when he said, “You’re not alone now.”

Ji-Hoon blinked. He didn’t know what to do with that.

The storm outside grew louder, thunder rumbling over campus like a warning—or a promise.

Min-Soo leaned back against the shelf. “Can I ask you something?”

“…Go ahead.”

“Do you want me to leave you alone?”

Ji-Hoon didn’t answer immediately.

He could say yes. He should say yes.

It would be safer. Easier.

But the warmth in his hands from the coffee… the quiet way Min-Soo waited—not pressing, not pleading, just present—

“No,” Ji-Hoon whispered. “Not yet.”

Min-Soo smiled. And for the first time, Ji-Hoon didn’t look away.

That night, when Ji-Hoon returned to his room, he didn’t reach for his phone or textbooks. He reached for his notebook.

And wrote:
