Echoes from the underworld

End of friendship and the Power of Dreams

End of friendship and the Power of Dreams

Aug 26, 2025

Draegon Lucian—Ruler of the Underworld, also known as "Curse"—didn't like humans. They were worthless in his eyes. In his realm, there were only demons. Perhaps a few half-demons, but they were hardly better than humans. Some of them had powers and magic, making them slightly more valuable, but Draegon still didn't like them.

The title "Curse" was given to Draegon not just because of his power but because of the devastation and misfortune he brought upon those who crossed him. He was a demon of unmatched strength, his magic and abilities feared even by the oldest and most powerful demons. Just the mention of his name struck terror into the hearts of both his allies and enemies. Draegon had recently lost the friendship of the fox demon Kaze Zion. They had been best friends, until the day Draegon revealed he had taken the throne as the ruler of the underworld.

It was ominous in the throne room where Draegon sat upon his throne. The room was dimmed by the faint glow of flickering torches, and the air felt heavy with magic and power. The walls were adorned with dark stone wallpaper in rich shades of black and red, where paintings in grand frames depicted demonic legends and bloody wars. Each image portrayed enormous, mighty creatures—demonic warriors fighting with swords and black wings rising against a blood-red sky. The frames were intricately decorated with gleaming gold.

The throne where Draegon sat was high and massive, like a giant bed of black stone with demonic carvings. From his elevated position, he looked down on the room with a cold and powerful gaze. The floor was covered with blood-red rugs that led up to his throne.

The door to the throne room creaked open, and the small footsteps echoed faintly through the heavy, dark air. Draegon looked at Yume Zion, the little fox demon, who cautiously stepped into the room. His light footsteps reverberated in the silent room. He stopped in front of Draegon's throne and looked up at him with his two-colored eyes.

His left eye was red, glowing like fire, while the right was ice blue, resembling the still waters of lakes. These eyes held something powerful—dreams' power, both peaceful and calm dreams, but also nightmares and terror. It was a beautiful yet dangerous force. It was also the reason why Yume Zion was trained to become Kasu Lucian's protector—Draegon's son, when he would one day take over the throne from his father.

A cold, almost uncomfortable feeling swept through Draegon as he thought back to the devastation that Yume's power had caused in his father Kaze Zion's demon realm.

A Few Days Earlier Yume & Azazel the two brothers! The Night the Dream Broke
Yume loved his brother, but he was also very jealous of Azazel. The red-haired fox demons heart was broken inside, filled with pain and confusion over the relationship he saw his father had with Azazel. After his father left his mother and had a new child with another woman, it was as if his importance had vanished. His father had changed; it was as if he no longer saw his son, growing more distant from Yume and showing more love to the younger brother.

The garden shimmered under the silver light of the full moon. Shadows stretched long over the trimmed hedges and delicate black roses, and somewhere in the stillness, two small fox demons laughed—light, playful, and free.

Yume's crimson hair glowed like fire in the moonlight, messy from running. His red fox ears twitched with joy as he spun in a circle, tail fluffed and flicking behind him.

"Catch me if you can, Aza!" he giggled.

Azazel, younger and smaller, stumbled through the grass with chubby legs, giggling as he ran after Yume. "Yum Yum! Slow down!"

Yume paused near the black pond, his laughter fading as something cold whispered across his skin. He turned to the water, mesmerized by the moon's reflection. It looked... too perfect. Too still. Yumes smile faded. He didn't notice the shift in the air—not at first. But the pulse came suddenly. A vibration under his skin. A strange heaviness in his chest.

"Yum?" Azazel's voice sounded far away.

Yume gasped, stumbling back from the water as the pulse hit again—stronger this time. His knees buckled. He clutched his chest as glowing light began to seep from his eyes—crimson red from the left, ice blue from the right. The glow cast strange colors across the pond, which started to ripple even though there was no wind.

Then the shadows moved and the water twisted. Black shapes slithered across its surface—not reflections, but visions. Dreams that weren't his. Nightmares that were.

Yume's small form trembled as smoke coiled from his body—red and black like bleeding clouds. The energy was raw, wild, and ancient. A scream built in his throat, but only a broken gasp escaped. He couldn't breathe and he couldn't stop it.

"Yum Yum?" Azazel's voice broke, trembling now. "What's wrong?"

The air around them dropped in temperature. Frost began to crackle over the grass. The sky itself seemed to darken. From the shadows, tall, misshapen figures began to rise—distorted beings from the dreamworld, faceless and whispering. The pond's surface exploded upward, flinging cold, black water into the air as if trying to wash the world away. Azazel screamed.

Azazel's mother Lilith, and the woman Kaze loved, was a beautiful demon with long light purple hair that fell to her shoulders. She was out in her greenhouse when she felt the sudden change in the air. A chilling sensation swept through her body, and she stopped watering the black roses she had just planted.

Lilith dropped her watering can mid-step, the tremor in the air slicing through her chest like ice. "Yume his dream power must have awakened," she thought,

She ran, ignoring the wind, ignoring the cold. When she arrived, the world had already changed.

The beautiful garden had transformed into a nightmare realm—trees warped and twisted like claws, black fog writhing on the ground. And there, at the center of it all, stood a glowing child. Yume, eyes wide and glowing with wild, unstoppable magic. His small body crackled with smoke and light.

Azazel stood a few feet away, frozen, too scared to run.

Lilith's heart plummeting. She stepped forward, voice sharp, clear. "Yume! Look at me!"

He didn't move. He couldn't. The Young fox demons power was a flood—a storm with no center. His breath came in fast sobs now, his mind overwhelmed by fear, jealousy, pain—everything he hadn't said, everything he'd buried. The aching loneliness. The way his father stopped looking at him. The way Azazel always had that pure, untouched love.

"I can't" Yume whimpered, his voice barely human, barely childlike anymore. "It hurts..."

"You're not alone," Lilith called. "I'm here for you. Sweet child, please you have to stop this"

But the power burst, and an explosion of red and black light consumed the garden. A scream not Yume's, but Liliths scream ripped through the air. Lilith was thrown back, her body tumbling through rose bushes and stone like a rag doll. She didn't rise.

The shadows began to fade, the nightmare unraveled and the pond stilled.

Yume stood there, panting, shivering, tears mixing with blood on his cheeks. The energy had drained from him, leaving behind only ash and silence.

"M-Mom?" Azazel ran to Lilith, kneeling beside her broken body, sobbing. "Wake up, please, wake up..."

Yume turned slowly, staring at them—at Azazel's tiny hands shaking her, at the blood staining the ground. His legs gave out. He dropped to his knees.

"I didn't mean to," he whispered, barely audible. "I didn't want to hurt her..."

Azazel looked back at him, his face twisted with confusion, grief and something else fear.

Yume curled into himself, the red glow in his eye fading, the blue flickering out like a dying star. His tail wrapped around him, trembling. For the first time, the little fox demon who brought dreams who loved with all his fragile, jealous heart Yume wished he could forget.

Azazel sat with his mother, whose body was burned and bloodied. Tears ran down his cheeks as he tried to bring her back to life. His heart was filled with terror and despair, but he knew it was too late. Azazel's mother lay unconscious on the ground.

A terrible silence filled the air as Yume looked at Azazel and Lilith. He knew that Azazel would never forgive him for what had happened, even though it hadn't been intentional. Yume Zion would never forgive himself.
..............
Kaze and Draegon stood on the balcony, the cold night air caressing their faces, but nothing could cool the feeling of loss and sorrow that permeated their hearts. They had been good friends, and lovers; they had shared a strong and passionate relationship, but now it was lost. Draegon had just revealed that he had taken the title of ruler of the underworld.

Kaze, the mighty fox demon, stood with his gaze on the horizon. His heart was heavy, but he knew he could not hold on to something that was no longer his. Draegon was now more powerful than Kaze, and there was a silent understanding between them that their time as equals – as friends, as lovers – was over.

"We will never see each other again, my friend!" Kaze said the words with a forceful tone, filled with a sense of both closure and longing.

Draegon slowly turned toward him, his dark eyes meeting Kaze's, but there was none of the old spark of infatuation in them anymore. Instead, his gaze was subdued, perhaps even frightening.

Draegon looked at his former friend: "I never wanted to hurt you, Kaze. But I had to take the title of ruler of the underworld, there's no turning back now."

Kaze looked at his former friend: "You turned back the moment you chose power over us. There's nothing left, Draegon. Not for me." Kaze felt pain in his heart. It wasn't just the loss of Draegon that hurt, but also the realization that he no longer had the power to keep him.

Kaze let out a heavy sigh, as if it were a final farewell to everything he had ever had with Draegon. "Then you're not the man I loved. And I cannot love a shadow of who you once were."

"I know," Draegon replied, his voice low and sorrowful. "I will miss you, Kaze. What we had... the love, the friendship... But it's over now." He paused, and a faint smile played on his lips, but there was no joy in his smile, only emptiness.

They stood there, silent in the night, a final moment together before they would part ways and never cross paths again. Suddenly, a faint, almost imperceptible rustle was heard.

"We need to find out what it is," said Kaze, looking at Draegon, who nodded.

Kaze furrowed his brow, his golden eyes glowing as he approached the garden, with Draegon following closely behind. Something was wrong. There was something in the air, a threatening and foreign energy.

When they opened the door and stepped into the still garden outside the palace, they suddenly saw a glow that lit up the dark night. It was an iridescent aura, a dark, powerful energy moving in the air. Kaze and Draegon exchanged a glance, a silent understanding. They both knew what this meant. Yume, the fox demon's eldest son, had awakened his dream power.

Kaze felt a chill run down his spine. His son had always had an unusual ability to sense and influence dreams, but no one had predicted that his power would awaken in this way. Yume's sorrowful heart, his pain, his jealousy, his power had already caused chaos.

Draegon, who knew both the dark and light sides of power, looked at Kaze with a serious expression. "This could change everything," he said quietly. "If Yume doesn't learn to control his powers... this kind of energy could destroy the entire demon kingdom."

Kaze felt a sense of loss and worry. His son had a power that he couldn't control. That's when Kaze saw his wife sitting on the ground, she was injured, and the fox demon rushed to her. She looked at him, and her eyes were white – Yume's power had made her blind.

"He has made her blind," Kaze said, his voice broken, filled with pain. He closed his eyes to hold back the tears, but they still came. "Lilith... He has made her blind." Kaze let out a heavy sigh, as if he was trying to rid himself of the weight he felt in his heart.

He looked at Draegon, but his eyes were empty, as though he had already lost everything that mattered to him. "I know we no longer are friends, but... you must take care of  my son." Kaze shook his head, the sad feeling of loss weighing heavily on him.

"I don't want anything to do with him anymore. I don't know who he is anymore, Draegon. He's not my son anymore. I only see chaos and destruction." Kaze say.

His body felt heavy, both angry and despairing at the same time. "He has lost himself. I can't be close to him. Not after what he's done, and Lilith will never see again because of him." Kaze swallowed, as though his own heart were breaking with every word he forced himself to say.

He lowered his head, his voice now a whisper, "Take him from me, Draegon. Take care of him, I... I can't anymore."

"I promise, Kaze," Draegon said slowly, "I will do everything I can to help him." Draegon lifted Yume, who was now sitting on the ground crying. His younger brother Azazel sat by his mother, holding her hand, not even looking at his brother. He would never forgive him for making their mother blind.

Kaze lowered his gaze. His heart was torn – Yume, his son, whom he had stopped showing love to when Azazel was born. Kaze cried as he saw Draegon holding his son in his arms. Yume, whom he had stopped showing love to when Azazel was born, he regretted it now, but it was too late.

Their bond was no longer as strong as it once had been, and Kaze felt the painful sorrow. He knew that Yume would be better off with Draegon. But that didn't make it easier to accept. His heart was heavy with grief and regret as he looked at his son, the one he had once held so close, who might never forgive him.

"I have betrayed you, Yume. Draegon, take care of him. Teach him to control his powers."

Yume looked at his father, his eyes filled with pain and sorrow. He wanted to scream, to make Kaze understand, but the words stuck in his throat. After a long silence, he finally spoke, his voice both broken and quiet: "I will never forgive you father" Yume leaned against Draegon's shoulder, as tears streamed down his cheeks.

Draegon smiled faintly at Kaze, but his smile wasn't filled with joy; it was filled with painful understanding. "I promise," he said softly, his voice low and serious. "Goodbye, Kaze. Let's hope we never meet again."

Draegon felt a mix of sorrow and relief – a friendship and love that was now over, perhaps forever. He looked at Kaze, no longer with warmth, but with a respect born from the heavy decision they had both been forced to make.

Kasu Lucian's life is defined by loss, betrayal, and an unyielding thirst for power. Raised by his emotionally distant father, Draegon Lucian, Kasu was taught that love was a weakness and power must be earned through strength alone. This harsh ideology was enforced when Draegon killed Kasu's wife, Senora Lucian, to sever his emotional ties and weaken him.

Yume Zion is a Fox Demon and protector of Kasu Lucian, whom he has loved unconditionally since childhood, though his feelings remain unrequited. His loyalty to Kasu leads to emotional turmoil, especially as he navigates a passionate yet complicated affair with Asmodeus, the Demon of Lust.

Asmodeus, the Demon of Lust and Manipulation, is shaped by a history of obsessive and controlling relationships. He cannot separate love from domination, using affection as a means of power. His most recent obsession is Yume Zion, a powerful fox demon. What began as a manipulative game to seduce Yume quickly evolved into a deep, infatuated bond.
