From here, she was slightly stumped. She knew that one could take a twig and a piece of wood and get it sparked, but she had never actually done it before. Watching someone do it online and actually getting it to work are two different things, and she wasn’t sure how to proceed. Looking up at the twin suns however, she saw that they were now starting to sink towards the horizon, and they would be a lot less safe without fire nearby. Deciding that she couldn’t really think of much else but to just try it for herself, she grabbed a smaller chunk of wood and using a nearby rock, gashed a small hole into it. She then grabbed a sturdy twig and removed the little branches before placing it between her flat palms and rolling it back and forth as fast as she could in an attempt to get it sparking. 

After a while her hands were cramping and she had not produced any flames, merely some smoke from time to time. Tired and frustrated, she looked up to see her companion watching her with his steady gaze, dulled only slightly with some pain and exhaustion that he could no longer hide. With a huff, she began rubbing her aching hands and wondering what she should do next. Suddenly, a stone clattered to a stop right next to her. Looking up, she saw the male gesturing for her to bring the set up over to him. She pointed at the log and then to him to confirm he wanted it, and when he nodded she shrugged and brought it over. 

As she carried the small log and stick over he slowly spread his legs apart enough to place the log comfortably between them. Despite being careful the motion strained his injuries and a quiet grunt escaped him,  earning him a mild glare from the woman as she approached. She carefully set the wood between his legs and then crouched nearby just in case he did manage to light it- that way she could quickly pull it away and get their campfire started. She watched as he grabbed the stick like she had earlier and started slowly rubbing it between his palms, copying her earlier attempts. Once he got the hang of it he increased his speed until his hands were blurs and she watched amazed as smoke started to emerge from the notch in the wood followed shortly by flames.

He quickly took his hands away as she swooped in and happily grabbed the burning wood, carefully shielding it as she made her way back to her fire pit and began nursing the flames into a roaring fire. The wood was fresh wood that she had broken off lower parts of the trees or pieces she scavenged from the ground nearby, so it was producing a healthy stream of thick smoke. She coughed as the wind turned and she got a faceful of the toxic fumes. Seems that her earlier attempts to dry the wood were not long enough to thoroughly dry the wood but that made sense. Dropping quickly, she crawled around the fire so she could manage the fire comfortably. Distracted as she was stoking the slowly growing blaze she failed to notice that her male companion was watching her with a complicated expression, one similar to how a strategist not expecting to lose suddenly learns that his side is in fact losing.
