Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. It's been 6 months since Lucien's comatose, and Grey eventually had to go back to work.
Grey didn't stay beside Lucien for more than one month. But still, he made frequent visits to the hospital and hired caretakers to take care of him.
Lucien was also transferred to the VIP section of the hospital. It wasn't like those luxurious rooms in the movies, but a singular room with one bed instead of dividers that made you share a room with other people.
Grey sat on his private driver's car and was on his way to the hospital as usual.
He was staring aimlessly from the car window, when a completely unnatural occurrence had happened.
The moon that was once pure and untainted, suddenly glowed red.
The view was chilling, it was almost like the world had come to the end, as the moon no longer became a guiding lantern to the lost, but was more like a death signal.
Grey furrowed his brows. He blinked and when he squinted his eyes to see what was in the distance, his body froze.
What is that! A stampede?!
And it was all coming in their direction! Grey was about to alert his driver to turn back when he remembered Lucien.
He held his tongue.
But only a second passed, before Grey immediately told his driver to step on the gas and make use of any shortcuts to get to the hospital in the fastest way possible.
Meanwhile, one of the caretakers watched tv in Lucien's room after she finished her work.
A breaking news alert flashed on the tv screen and she raised her eyebrows.
"Breaking news, what appears to be "man-eating corpses" are taking over H city. Please evacuate immediately to the nearest military base in your area. I REPEAT, PLEASE GO TO THE NEAREST MILITARY BASE--"
AHH!"
The lady on the screen got jumped on and bitten by a zombie! The caretaker screamed as she witnessed this and ran for her life.
The rest of the caretakers abandoned Lucien.
All that was left was an unconscious youth on the cold, hospital bed.
Grey was 15 minutes away from the hospital. The driver essentially broke 8 traffic laws, went over the speeding limit 15 times, and went past a red light twice just to get to the hospital in record time.
Perhaps he could apply to be an F1 driver.
When Grey finally spotted the hospital a few kilometres away, he noticed a horde of what appeared to be undead people, blocking the entrance.
If it were in gaming terms, they were camping the humans that would exit and get an easy meal.
The driver stopped the car. He turned to look at Grey and gave him a cautious look, one where he wanted to make sure if they would really continue.
Grey didn't notice this, but instead watched as the zombies tore apart the caretaker that he had hired to take care of Lucien in front of the hospital.
Such a sight gave the driver a scare. In fact, he almost puked. That scene was too inhumane and tragic, which was extremely hard to swallow.
Grey couldn't believe what was happening. The world had succumbed to a zombie outbreak.
He couldn't hold himself any longer and told his driver to stay put and he'll bring back Lucien.
But just as Grey was about to step out of the vehicle, the driver held onto his arm.
Grey shouted, "Let go!"
The driver shaked his head, his grip on Grey's arm tightened like a son holding his father back from going to the army.
"You'll die! Grey, I've known you since you were a child. I know you're tough but going out there is plain suicide!"
Grey tried to shake him off but it was of no use.
He looked back at the hospital, then to the window of Lucien's room.
His eyes slowly formed a glass film, and in his heart he knew that leaving just like this wasn't right. But the driver pulled him back inside the car and made a u-turn before Grey could utter a word.
Grey turned back to look at the hospital one last time, with one thought strongly posted onto his mind.
