Her voice rings out over the atrium, and anyone who was still talking falls silent. Seeing that she has our rapt attention now, she continues.
"My name is Lunette of the Prism family, and I am happy to welcome you all here. I am the principal here at Dragoniar Academy, and I will do my best to cultivate a wholesome and healthy learning enviroment where all of you can shine and thrive over the years you are here."
There's a pause as she lets that thought sink in, and I use it to read the room again. The gold gilded dragon is looking at Principal Lunette, but figeting with his talons at the same time. The bright yellow and white one is nuding her twin with her tail in exictement, but she is remaining completely stoic and silent with her tail wrapped around her pouffle.
Principal Lunette continues, and it's mostly about how school, how homework is going to be, how we should all treat each other with kindness and fairness, school rules and regulations, all that fun stuff. I notice a dragon in the back row looking worried when Principal Lunette is talking about how we should try our absolute hardest to not injure other dragons with our abilites, even by accident. She tugs at the end of her tail, which seems to be covered in hundreds of thin, sharp quills. Yeesh. I hope I don't run into her tail while walking.
"Now, as students part of our commuinty here, I must remind you: You may not like everyone, but you must treat everyone with kindness. And remember, if you need anything or have any worries, please don't hesitate to ask me. Now, I'd like you all to find the paper that tells you which homeroom you are in, and pull out your maps. Once the bell tolls two times, go to your homerooms. Have a lovely day!"
I pull out my map, and Skipper, Firefly, and I see where we're going.
"Aww, c'mon!" Skipper grumbles. "How come you and Firefly get to both be in 6C while I'm stuck in 6A?"
"We'll sit together at lunch," Firefly promises. "I'm more worried about my classes! Will I have a spot to sit? Will there be tiny papers and quills for me?"
I was wondering about that too. Was Firefly accounted for when the seating plans were made? If not, I guess she can always share with me.
The bell tolls two times, revebrating through the mountains. We join the crowd pouring out of the atrium, Skipper by my side and Firefly on my shoulder. Skipper and I stick together as long as we can, until she rounds a corner and disappears from sight. Then I see the stone bearing the words 6C. Firefly and I head into our homeroom.
Scarlet of the Pyroflare family is just trying to navigate the ups and downs of becoming a teenage dragon, when she discovers that she's not just a regular fire dragon after all. Instead, she's an Emberwrym, the most powerful kind of fire dragon in the world-and the last of her kind. But will she manage to get through middle school with her powerful new abilities? Or will her raging flames get the better of her?
