Echoes of Power

Escape

Escape

Sep 02, 2025

Cierra wakes up in her damp cell with the guard who is normally there posted nearby. She clenches her fist onto the bars of the cell and rattles them.

“Let me out of here.” She yells to the guard. The guard glares at her with pointed eyes.

“Don’t try anything. You’re lucky we haven’t killed you yet.” The guard scoffs.

“Guard, I just need to get out of here and see my friend. We were kind of dealing with something, you know how it is.” Cierra sighs.

“Your friend is dead. Now shut up.” The guard silences her.

“I’m gonna give you a name, okay? Your name is gonna be… Stupid Head.” Cierra smirks.

“I don’t wanna be Stupid Head. My name’s Harold.” Harold gets slightly defensive.

“Stupid Head, why did you guys capture me when Aron is the only one who actually poses a threat?” Cierra asks genuinely.

“Well, we believe that you are a key part in preventing the prophecy of Our Great Leader’s destruction.” Stupid Head replies.

“Oh? What do I have anything to do with it?” Cierra smirks slightly.

“You’re the bait.” Stupid Head smiles slyly.

“For who?” Cierra asks confused.

“The boy, obviously.”

“Oh so he’s not dead?” Cierra smiles. “You really are a stupid head for telling me that.” She laughs uncontrollably. Stupid Head clenches his fists and rushes toward the bars of the cell, grabbing them.

“Listen here, child. Your friend will die here. I guarantee it.” The guard glares into Cierra’s eyes. Cierra spits in the guard’s face and blows raspberries at him.

“No he won’t. He’s gonna save me.” Cierra glares back at the guard.
‘If I don’t escape first.' Cierra smirks. The guard sighs and lets go of the bars of the cell and goes back to his post.

“Believe whatever you want, kid. He’s not saving you and you’ll just have to deal with it.”

‘Wait why didn’t I just take him out right there? Frick, I’m a stupid head.’ Cierra facepalms and sighs.

“Hey Stupid Head?”

“Not my name.” Stupid Head clenches his fists again.

“Are you gonna kill me?” Cierra tries to act cute.

“I might have to, you’re being annoying.” He sighs.

“Well, I just wanna let you know that you’re a stupid, stupid, stupid man, Stupid Head.” She blows raspberries at him again. The guard breathes in deeply and yells, opening the door to the main hall where Cierra sees many other guards.

“I’m done with this annoying brat. Someone switch with me, I beg of you.” The guard audibly sighs from the other room.

‘Now’s my chance.’ Cierra creates a beam of water and blasts the bars with it, eroding them until she can get out. A guard walks in and breathes out slowly.

“Get back in your cell, dude.” The guard holds up a fire ball.

“Fire versus water, who will win?” Cierra smirks and blasts the guard with a pressurized beam of water, knocking them over. She blows raspberries at the guard.

“It’s water, by the way.” Cierra laughs as she enters the hall with at least twenty guards. They all begin to start their incantations.

“Shoot. Aren’t you guys supposed to be really strong? Like, you were infused with your leader’s powers, right?” Cierra scratches the back of her head. The guards murmur among themselves.

“Well, I mean… we haven’t exactly gotten our promotions yet, but we will.” One guard says excitedly.

“Oh. So you’re pretty weak, got it.” She smirks and blasts them with another pressurized beam of water. The guards fall to the ground and cry out in weakness.

“One shot? All of you? Why didn’t I do this sooner? Gosh, I really am stupid.” Cierra sighs. A guard with a mask on comes from behind her.

“Yes you are, little girl.” The guard swipes at her, but she dodges relatively easily.

“You are too for announcing your presence. I probably wouldn’t have dodged if you hadn’t. Just a suggestion.”

“Oh shut your cocky little mouth, brat.” The guard shoots a fireball at her, but she dodges again.

‘It really helps that I can read their mind.’ Cierra smirks slightly and runs up to the guard, dodging balls of fire that come at her. She gets up close to the guard and puts her hands together, pressurizing the water and making it heat up. She releases the beam, and scalding hot water blasts through the armor of the guard, making them fall to the ground.

“How the hell did you do that?” The guard mutters and breathes heavily. Cierra sticks her tongue out at the guards and runs over to the door to one of the holding cell rooms.

‘Feels like they should boost their guard numbers up, but I’m not complaining.’ Cierra chuckles. An old man at the desk in the corner calls out to her.

“Hello young lady. Are you out on bail?” The man struggles to put a form on the desk. Cierra goes over to him.

“Uh, something like that.” She smiles sweetly at the man.

“Would you please fill out this form to rate your experience here with us?” The man smiles and gives her a quill and a small glass of ink. Cierra dips the quill in the ink and fills out the form.

“Only for you, old man.” She smiles at the man once again after finishing.

“Gotta run, hope I see you later.” She runs out the exit and one of the guards from the room tries to follow her, but eventually gives up.

“Man, I don’t get paid enough for this. Screw Our Leader, I’m quitting.”

Cierra runs into the forest, not knowing where she’s going next. The trees are the only thing providing cover as she runs away from the prison.

‘Where would Aron be? Oh wait, what did Auntie Trish say about finding him if there were a situation?’ She ponders hard.

“If there’s ever a situation in which I die and the university becomes vacant, you can most likely find Aron at The Lost Ale in Marenth.”

‘Yes. That’s right.’ She smiles at herself, then pauses.

“She’s gone, isn’t she?” A tear falls down her face and she smiles, wiping it away.

“It’ll be alright. At least we have memories of her. We can always reminisce.” She looks up at the night sky and cries quietly, climbing up a tree and laying down on a branch. Cierra smiles and falls asleep with bright stars overhead.
