Chapter 15.
Internal pain cannot be externalized.
During that night, Magnus had not only lost his feathers, but his capacity to feel pain had been externalized to an uncontrollable degree. He had never experienced what it was like to feel pain, he had never known true punishment from the Great Immortal, but now that he was alone, he couldn't deny that his actions in the mortal realm had brought him these consequences...
But how could he not deny that this woman with exotic skin had bewitched him? Fleyra, her name sounded like that of a charming, seductive flower, a temptation in the middle of the desert...
Her long, straight, deep black hair contrasted completely with her sea-blue eyes and the scent of her skin, which produced the perfect magnetism for falling into disgrace...
A fragrance of perdition that, when he closed his eyes, he could only see her red lips mentioning his name. Why were charming women like her forbidden to them, like angels, like celestials?
It wasn't fair that only human mortals could obtain her eternal beauty and enveloping charms, but he knew he couldn't see her again now, although that didn't mean he couldn't remember her, because even with the pain still in his body, he knew he couldn't show it...
So that other Angels wouldn't notice the absence of his inner feathers, he had to act as usual. However, when he tried to stand up, his body instantly collapsed, hurting himself, which made him have to clench his jaw to force himself not to scream...
How could he have managed to lie down again? He couldn't go out in this state. Walking meant forcing his body to walk around hurt. If others found out about this, they wouldn't hesitate to seek an answer from the Great Immortal. He had banished or annihilated other Angels who had committed minor and insignificant mistakes. So he had to keep up appearances, since he was the prince, the favorite. And if he had been given a second chance, he had to take it and never see that woman again. He had to return to the mortal realm, even if she still lived in his thoughts…
He had to force himself to forget her to prevent them both from losing; perhaps it was his way of not really knowing her, making sure she was okay… after all, she was the woman who taught him another kind of pleasure, and this was what he could do for her: forget her to prevent her from dying and himself from suffering the same fate…
It was preferable to keep up appearances as if nothing had happened, that way, if no one saw him, no one would know, period…
Fleyra, for her part, hadn't been able to forget the prince. She longed with a mad passion to see him again, to dance for him. That graceful, masculine man with that coppery hair hadn't been able to leave her mind…
The way they had fit together, as if they had been made for each other, unnerved her; At night, he would leave the window open, place a rose, and say: Your Highness, I hope our future meeting will be soon and blessed by the stars…
It seemed the woman was enchanted by him, but she didn't know or suspect that he wasn't human and that the meeting she so longed for might never happen…
