Chapter 4.
Silent Betrayal.
For Richthofen, the decision to dispose of the girl's body was completely alarming. When he removed the body from the bathtub, he realized he couldn't do it because she was still alive, still breathing.
So he decided to betray the pact regarding her death and took her to the estate of his parents, Lawrence and Bett Nihilborn, and kept the girl's body recovering in her room.
Her mother, Bett, was a highly regarded doctor, an excellent professional, and highly recommended; and her father, Lawrence, was an award-winning chemist, so he was expected to be the best of both worlds…
Then, in his room, he created a dividing wall that barely fit a side cabinet and a small nightstand; There he kept her there for years, always asking his parents about certain concerns and trying to find out how to recover someone, especially if he wanted to see how the medicine worked on a rabbit…
So, his father always took him hunting in the Forest of Lost Tears, but there was a boundary that couldn't be crossed. His father said the boundary was because on the other side there were very wild animals that couldn't be controlled, and that it was the boundary that could never be crossed…
They always returned to the farm with several rabbits, until one day it was his mother who accidentally discovered the false wall; And as her son and husband were out hunting, she decided to take a small grinder and cut into the wall, only to realize it was only wood. When she looked inside, she felt her whole world crumble…
It was the missing girl, the lost daughter of the Tempus family, the neighboring family, gravely injured with only a drip in her veins, her eyes bandaged, and a color like porcelain beginning to turn blue…
She called her husband and told him to come back quickly because they had an emergency. So, the father and son returned with a smile and six rabbits, but Bett couldn't see her son because she still wanted an explanation, one that was valid, one that didn't sound like criminal psychopathy…
It was then that she checked that the windows were closed and the doors securely locked, and she asked him directly: ¿Are you curious about rabbit treatments? ¿About how a rabbit recovers from an accident?...
That was the last time you asked me, and almost every day you go to the Forest of Lost Tears with your father, and you bring a certain number of rabbits and we teach you many things; now I wonder if it's really a rabbit you want to save or the little girl hiding in your room...
The boy felt his face fall with shame, with fear at the discovery. He looked down and began to pinch his palms, a sign of nervousness. His father went up to his room and found the wall destroyed, and when he looked in, the little girl was there.
Going down again, he noticed that the boy still hadn't said anything. His father, in a stern tone, ordered him to speak. It was then that the boy, with teary eyes, confessed a lie that seemed true.
