Chapter 10.
Curious Ears.
Tomás and Damián had witnessed how the Barrier appeared in Tornasol and became transparent inches from the four boys. It was the first time Tomás had seen something of this magnitude…
The captain wasn't surprised by this because he knew the nature of the residents of that place. However, he could read the body language of those apparently young humans from afar, and worry, pain, and uncertainty ruled their faces. They didn't dare enter as if something would happen if they crossed onto their property again…
And as the boys walked away from the place, but unknowingly approached where they were, they heard them say: It's incredible that Dad is willing to go look for the Defiler in the past. ¿Can't he just retain his humanity?
But another of them said: It must be hard to accept that 10 years ago you were the same as any human, but opening a portal to recover what was lost is one of the craziest things a person is willing to do.
Another answered: And don't even mention that he wasn't there. He's been lying all this time. It's not that he didn't want to socialize with anyone, it's that he was hibernating so he could get the portal opened for him...
I'm not willing to die here to go look for him in the past. In any case, I don't think they'll grant his wish to bring the Cradle Defiler back to the present with him. He'll upset the order, and with how weak he is, if he dies in the past, he'll also die here in the present...
So, the boys walked far enough away so the two men wouldn't hear anything else. Tomás said to Damián: This is crazy, this can't be real. ¿Are we in a science fiction movie from the '80s and we can travel back in time?
But the captain told him: Never underestimate Patrick Tempus. After all, he is the Cradle Defiler. But he disappeared 10 years ago, and his children just confirmed that he lost the Defiler 10 years ago. But it's even better if they both kill each other.
Patrick in the past, both the present and the past, will cease to exist; they will die permanently. Tomás understood what The Captain was thinking and told him: You're not going to do it, ¿right? If those, who you claim are not human, aren't willing to cross into the past through the portal, much less will you.
Patrick Tempus was able to cross because he had lost his evil side, which was the Defiler, but you haven't lost anything; you're not altered in any way. If you cross into space-time, you'll be deformed, and the pressure could be so high that you won't survive. It's just practical physics.
Someone who is stronger than you from the start will achieve better results, but weak people don't achieve the same results as someone who has already lost their strength. ¿What are you going to sacrifice? ¿Your toenails or the hair on your balls?
But Damian told him: neither. If Patrick was willing to sacrifice the Cradle Defiler to search for him in the past, I can sacrifice Captain Foster. After all, we're the same, just like he and the Defiler. And it will be much easier to kill someone in the past than in the present, because there he has no allies and is alone, and single prey is much easier to hunt.
However, Tomás told him: We don't know how he managed to cross, but Damian told him: Well, then let's find out how Patrick Tempus's body is and what he sacrificed to search for the Defiler, and that's it…
