Chapter 4.
Soul Reconnaissance.
The gargoyle crept toward the harpy so she wouldn't realize it was an ambush; But the woman was cunning and threw him one of the claws of a harpy that had died nearby and told him to slit his throat.
Indeed, the claws were sharp, so much so that they could slice a human or a Fae. And when he was practically breathing behind the harpy leader, the Alpha brought that claw to his neck, concentrating so much that he didn't realize there was someone behind him...
She was so absorbed in the moment, yearning for the fall of this Alpha, that when he told her he wasn't going to do it, she tried to approach him to execute him with her own hands, but what she received was that someone had caught her in his arms and pushed her hostage towards the Alpha...
But far from understanding what was really happening with the Alpha and what he was doing, both leaders witnessed how their souls recognized each other, and this meant that they were destined, that they were meant for each other...
So, squeezing her towards his stony chest, he pressed her chin with his hands, and with that cruel expression, angry, furious, and containing something more, he told her with authority: You are my mate, you are mine for all eternity. But the gargoyle's soul was so dominant that within seconds the harpy fainted in his arms...
She had lost her leadership, her dominance, her ferocity, and even her independence. There was a shared feeling among the harpies and gargoyles: if their leader found his destined mate, and she was of a species inferior to them, his mate's people would immediately obey him and follow him to the death.
That's why, upon recognizing that feeling, the harpies who had survived had to hide their claws, bow their heads, and take the remains of their fallen people to where their new leader was headed, opening the way for Whistler's deadly and forgotten Shadowfax.
And it was very well known that a gargoyle could not be far from its companion under any pretext, even if she died first, the gargoyle would eat her body after letting the corpse swell and hatch in order to feel her presence inside…
And it was the only way to be separated from a gargoyle, but in reality you wouldn't be that far because gargoyles were the guardians of life and death, and because of that, they could easily enter the world of the dead and it didn't matter where their partner was or if she was alive or dead, because they would pursue her there because they were faithful lovers through the threads of life and death, since for them time was never an obstacle…
The distance was never enough and any rivalry that might exist between them would never be a problem, but rather it was the adrenaline needed to fully awaken the stone guardian, and Mateus wouldn't let this harpy escape, because if he had to pluck her feathers and break her arms to force her to stay, he would do it to love her.
