Chapter 9.
Clearances of Light.
Halfway through the banquet, the disgust was evident on Mateus's face. He was trying to integrate her, but she simply wasn't making it easy, so he abandoned his post to leave through the back door of the Castle...
Now that he knew who she was and knew she was his companion, his senses would simply guide him like a magnet to another. He didn't have a very good sense of smell, but he did have a good field of vision, perfect for seeing, even with death's eyes, the lost souls that inhabited this place.
That's why getting her was easy, because the souls themselves were afraid of him and preferred to cooperate without him asking, rather than have a stormy and cruel punishment meted out to them.
Everyone told her she was in the clearings of light among the ruins overlooking the sea. Getting there in her gargoyle form was just a couple of flaps of her wings, and there she was, lying in the ruins, her wings covering her, her forearm as a pillow, staring out at the sea…
It wasn't long before he approached and she noticed him. She simply said: One of your rules says I'm not supposed to leave here. I haven't, so you can leave. But he simply asked her: ¿What are you seeing in the sea? ¿Calm, patience, or the storm?
She then told him: longing, if that makes you happy, is what I'm seeing: longing... it was curious that she saw longing in so many things, and without wasting much time he asked her: and ¿what do you long for from the sea? ¿Its giant waves, its cold water, or the tsunamis that rise to the sky? But she told him: my life, my freedom, everything I was before this stupidity you call destiny happened...
That is what I long for, then he told her: you can show me your human form, but she told him no, that she wouldn't, that he should first reject her before everything ends up floating in the sea.
At first he didn't understand anything, but then he said: It doesn't matter if you try to die, I will still go find you in death and bring you back, so we better return to the Castle, since surely everyone has already left...
But she told him: I will not follow you to the Castle and sleep by your side knowing that you are the murderer of my people, I am not your property and I swear that I will be free even if I have to eliminate myself from death itself…
At those words, the gargoyle simply took her in his arms and despite her struggles he was made of stone and ended up taking her straight to the Castle, and entering through the balcony of the room he said: I hope you like the design, the elves have done everything just by taking a look at you, for a moment she thought about changing into her human form, the place was exactly what she had seen in a dream when she was a child, when she was much younger and could barely speak, she dreamed that this unreal place would be her home, but now that she had it in front of her it felt like Déjà vu.
