Rain beat against the library windows, thunder rumbling like distant drums. Ji-Hoon barely noticed. His notebook lay open in front of him, but he wasn’t reading. He was remembering.

Memories tugged at him, pulling him under like undertow.

He didn’t notice Min-Soo until a gentle voice cut through the noise.

“Is today a writing day… or a hiding day?”

Ji-Hoon looked up slowly. His face was pale, his eyes shadowed from too many nights without rest.

“…Hiding,” he admitted softly.

Min-Soo set his bag down and slid into the seat beside him. No questions. No pressure. Just quiet company.

It was all Ji-Hoon needed.

And more than he thought he deserved.

“I should tell you everything,” Ji-Hoon said after a long silence. His voice was unsteady. “Not just parts of it. All of it.”

Min-Soo straightened, ready.

Ji-Hoon’s words trembled, but he pushed forward.

“I thought I loved him. Seung-Hwan. He was my first… everything. He knew that. He liked it—the power of it, the secrecy. He used to say no one would ever understand us the way we understood each other.”

He blinked hard.

“One night, he kissed me behind the gym. We were alone. But someone saw us. And the next day… he panicked. Said I forced him. That I’d been following him. That I was confused. Sick.”

Min-Soo’s jaw tightened. His hands curled into fists in his lap.

“I tried to explain,” Ji-Hoon went on, voice breaking. “No one believed me. People called me names in the halls. My friends stopped answering. I started skipping school, skipping meals… skipping everything.”

A single tear slipped down his cheek.

“I wanted to disappear.”

Min-Soo reached out carefully, brushing the tear away with the back of his hand.

Ji-Hoon lifted his eyes—wet, raw, unguarded.

“Do you think I was pathetic?”

“No,” Min-Soo said firmly, his voice rough with emotion. “I think you were hurt. Betrayed. And I think you survived something no one should ever have to face alone.”

Ji-Hoon’s lip trembled. “I keep telling myself I’m over it. But when I see him—standing there, smiling like nothing ever happened—I want to scream.”

“Then scream,” Min-Soo said. “Not at him. Not into silence. Scream here. With me. With someone who sees you.”

Ji-Hoon didn’t scream.

But he did fold into Min-Soo’s arms.

And for the first time, he didn’t apologize for shaking.

Min-Soo held him like he was both glass and steel—fragile, but unbreakable.

“I hate him,” Ji-Hoon whispered. “But more than that, I hate that part of me still wants to believe he once loved me.”

Min-Soo didn’t argue. He didn’t try to fix it.

He only said:

“You don’t owe him healing. Or forgiveness. Or even your story. But if someday you want someone to rewrite it with you…”

He squeezed Ji-Hoon’s hand gently.

“…I’m here.”
