Chapter 6
After a few months of work the dance came around and Albert was ecstatic. Johnathan had actually brought nice clothes to school this time, just a button down shirt and some nice jeans but nice nonetheless.
“So, you're going to ask Naamah to dance. Aren’t you?” Asked Johnathan, Albert was putting on a bow tie and coat.
“Well, maybe. If she wants to.” He said.
Johnathan nodded, then realized that would kind of be hard. Demons had knocked knees so they were faster in situations, but a dancing situation was probably not one of them. “How are you gonna dance with Naamah?”
Albert scoffed, “That’s rude.” He pulled out some cufflinks, this guy had the full set.
“No, I didn’t mean… I mean because… I’m just making it sound worse and worse.” Johnathan said.
Albert nodded, “Ya, you are. I understand what you're talking about though, and all I can say is that I really don’t know. It’s probably going to be hard, but like you’ve been saying. We’ll make it work.”
Johnathan nodded and smiled, “Finally taking some of my advice, eh?”
Albert twisted his wrist slightly, “Maybe.”
There was a knock at the door, and Johnathan went to open it. Outside was Naamah in a bright yellow dress.
She smiled, “Hey Johnathan! Where’s Albert?”
Albert came from the other side of the door, and smiled. “Hey Naamah, you look…” He seemed at a loss for words, Johnathan tapped him on the shoulder. “Good.” Albert turned to Johnathan, then to Naamah. “You look good.”
She smiled at him, “Thank you, you look very nice.”
Albert looked himself up and down, “Thanks, is there anything missing?”
“What do you mean? You have the full suit! I say you have too much.” Johnathan said, “Cufflinks, bowtie, what else do you need? A top hat?” Nammah laughed.
“Has it just been this the whole time?” She asked.
Albert nodded, “Yes, the whole time.”
“Is it ok if I come in?” She asked, “I think if we’re trying to protect this one, then it’s probably not too safe for us either.”
Albert nodded, “True, come in.” Him and Johnathan both moved aside, Johnathan went to see if he brought any ties himself. He knew he didn’t though, he just wanted to give Albert and Naamah a moment.
“So, uh. What’s going to be at the dance anyway?” Albert asked, Johnathan guessed this was Alberts version of making conversation.
Naamah shrugged, “I don’t know, maybe food.”
At that moment Johnathan got increasingly hungry, “That sounds good.” He said.
Albert nodded, “Ya, didn’t they only allow lunch for the first years?”
Naamah nodded, “Yep, no food for us.”
Johnathan’s eyes widened, and he felt something going to his hand. It felt familiar, and strange. “Hey guys, sorry to ruin the moment and all.” They looked at Johnathan who was slightly glowing red, “But I think my magic is brewing again.”
“Alright,” Albert said, starting to approach Johnathan, “Just push it away.”
“I can’t as long as we’re in this position.” Johnathan said, regretting it.
“What position?” Asked Naamah.
Johnathan dug deep into his soul, he closed his eyes. He felt this new magic being put inside of himself, he released it and a small burst of red reality magic exploded from his hand. Nothing happened, but whatever just happened had something to do with his reality magic. “Ow.” He said.
“What happened?” Asked Naamah, she looked around the room.
“Nothing.” Johnathan said, “I’m about to learn a new spell from…” He stopped at what he was about to say, he looked at Albert who immediately understood.
“Oh, ok. You might want to stay away from it then.” He said.
Johnathan nodded, “Well, there goes my fun night.”
“I’m still confused.” Said Naamah.
Johnathan got up, feeling as strong as ever. “And you shall stay that way for now, and now we shall go to the dance.”
“You still want to go?” Asked Albert.
Johnathan nodded, “Wouldn’t miss it.”
Johnathan, Albert and Naamah walked into the gymnasium. And before Albert went in Johnathan pulled him back.
“Listen,” He said, “I just want you and Naamah to have a good time, while I try to figure this out.” He started to show his signature reality abilities.
Albert nodded, “But what if the spy gets to you first?”
Johnathan shook his head, “They won’t.”
Albert shook his head, “Let’s call this off.” He started to walk, but Johnathan grabbed his arm.
“No, hang out with Naamah. Tell her I had to go to the bathroom or something, you should be happy with her.” Johnathan smiled.
Albert nodded, “If you think that’s ok.”
Johnathan nodded, and went into a corner to handle his power. He summoned back the energy he’d impressed inside him, and it leaped out. A swirling red glow formed in his hand, and it moved to his hand motions. It moved from a cube, to a sphere, to a spike. He kept moving it until he got it down. He’d mastered a new spell, good. He’d probably need it. He went back into the gym and found Albert and Naamah at the food table, he went over to him.
Albert let out a sigh of relief when he saw Johnathan, “Good, our all right.”
Johnathan nodded, “And a bit more.” He summoned his reality abilities and created a small clay cube.
Naamah gasped, “You got a new reality spell?”
Johnathan nodded, “I can make any small object I want, can’t be too big but is still useful.” He dispelled the cube.
Albert shook his head, “This just makes you a bigger target, maybe we should…”
“No,” Johnathan said, “Go, you two should dance. I’ll be over here, eating the buffet.” He went to the piles of food at the table before them, and took a cream puff. “It’s what I live for.”
Naamah nodded, “He’ll be fine Albert, he’s a powerful mage.”
Albert nodded, “Ya, but we don’t know who’s trying to kill him! What if they’re more powerful then…” Before Albert could finish his sentence Naamah grabbed his wrist and pulled him.
“You worry too much.” She said,
Johnathan applauded the two, and went back to eating. Then he felt a weird feeling, one he’s felt before, but different. It felt like the time the Master Knight summoned his soul, but this time his soul didn’t leave his body. He just started walking to the other side of the gym, then exited the gym. He walked down the hall a bit, and entered the Library. He felt something was wrong, he was moving towards something and couldn’t stop for one thing. And now he just felt some kind of eerie presence in the room, something was watching him. He felt the spell he was in fall and he immediately summoned his chained knife, something was here. He looked around, for a person. Or a monster, but the library was supposed to be closed. Nobody was supposed to be in here, and the door was supposed to be locked. He looked up to see small glowing runes on the ceiling, he looked at them curiously. They started to glow, and a huge boulder appeared above him. It didn’t fall, but was obviously going to. He heard voices from the outside of the library.
“Johnathan!” Albert yelled.
“This isn’t funny!” Yelled what sounded like Naamah.
Johnathan froze, not now. When a giant boulder was about to fall on him. Suddenly they entered the library and Naamah went pale.
Albert didn’t hesitate, “Johnathan!” Albert cast some kind of speed spell, and tried to run to Johnathan. The boulder fell and Johnathan’s reflexes took hold, he held up his hand and a blast of red energy erupted from it. The boulder crumbled into ash, and Albert ran into Johnathan. They fell to the floor, Johnathan still had some energy in him but he was starting to feel weak.
Johnathan looked over to his side and saw a figure moving in the shadows. Johnathan immediately got up, forgetting his moment of weakness. He ran to the figure, they ran out the door. Johnathan cast his speed spell, and sped off to the spy. He heard Albert talking to Naamah and then saw him running next to him. They ran all the way to the Elf realm portal, which Johnathan had never been through.
He stopped and found Albert next to him, “Ever been through there?”
Albert shook his head, “Nope.”
“There’s a first time for everything.” Johnathan and Albert ran into the portal, and Johnathan felt all the feelings he had felt when going through the portal to the human realm. When they got through they were in a huge city, with elves everywhere. They looked around a bit, then Johnathan saw the spy. “Over there!” He yelled, following the spy. They ran all throughout the city, and eventually ended up outside the city in some kind of sewer drain.
Albert was disgusted by it, “Uh, this smells disgusting. I think we have the proof right?”
Johnathan shook his head, “Not enough, come on.” Johnathan ran straight into the tunnel. When they emerged they were in some kind of underground base, with the controllers sigil everywhere. Johnathan’s only question was, “Where are we?”
