Oracle,” Hissed the younger man. “I'm getting tired of this. At this rate we'll never find your prophesied prince.”
The Oracle held up a hand, silencing him. “Quiet, General Raymond. Our prayers have been answered…”
The General sat up straight, now intrigued and aware of the presence of Wonder and his family. The General and the Oracle came forward and stood before the family. All bowed. Raymond scanned the group and his eyes rested on Echo, the oldest. He looked back at the Oracle.
“This one?”
The Oracle sighed. “No, not that one. I can tell he is not this healer's blooded son. No, the prince is not him. The prince is he, the youngest before you.”
All looked at Wonder with wide eyes, awe with amazement, even the general. Wonder was used to people staring at him, but not with such hope and happiness in their eyes. When the boy looked at the Oracle, the old man smiled, his pale eyes sparkling.
General Raymond clapped his hands, loudly echoing throughout the room, making everyone jump. “If you are to be our prince, young…”
“Wonder.” whispered Willow.
“Yes, young Wonder.” He said as if he knew that. “You will need to prove yourself before I'm willing to give you my blessing. I propose a trial of wits and bring back three items, with no help from your family.” The general said, holding Wonder's shoulder. “You must venture into the Wood of Beasts and bring back the hair of a kelpie, the tooth of a timberwolf, and the jewel earring of the Fairy king. Once you have completed this, return to us and I will give you my blessing. It is dangerous, are you ready?”
Wonder stared at him for but a moment before he widely smiled and said, “Yes, I am ready.”
