The City of Wolves

Chapter 3 - Hunting Grounds [1/2]

Chapter 3 - Hunting Grounds [1/2]

Sep 18, 2025

Eunji flopped onto her queen sized bed and let out a sigh as she stared up to the new ceiling that was her new room. The room Rose had guided her to was three times bigger than her old apartment and the attached bathroom was twice as big as her old bathroom.

Her stuff barely filled the room and all her stuff smelt clean. ‘Someone must clean everything before bringing it in…probably Rose.’ Eunji thought as she sighed once more.

Eunji did have a nap when she got to room because of all the food she stuffed down and she couldn’t believe she ate that much. After the nap she had got up and moved stuff around to make the room more hers.

She was now just lying on the bed silently and moved her arm over eyes to think in darkness. There was a knock at her door before she got too deep in her thoughts and she got up to answer the door.

When she opened the room, it was Eva standing there and Eunji now can tell she was at least six feet tall like Maria. Before Eunji could speak Eva handed her a decent size text book and Eunji took it.

Once the text book was firmly in Eunji's hands, Eva turned and walked down the hallway, “Thank you?” Eunji mustered after registering that Eva had walked away.

She looked at the text book and had no title but did have many sticky note markers. “Guess I don’t have to read it all…” Eunji trailed off as she closed her bedroom door.

Eunji returned to her bed and looked at the clock to see it was just past nine pm. She put the book on the bed and walked over to the wardrobe to grab something more comfortable to sleep in.

She picked out an oversized shirt that was off her left shoulder and a pair of black running shorts. She tussled her wolf cut hair to make it a bit wilder and she crawled into her bed.

Eunji grabbed the text book before getting comfortable under the covers and opened the first page that was marked. In seconds of reading it she figured out it was a text book about Lycans and the first mark page was mainly about weaknesses.

She wasn’t surprised to see Lycan’s were weak to silver and all of them were weak against it, no exception. Next was fire or more the damage fire could do to a Lycan body and prevent proper healing if not treated properly.

There was an exception to fire weakness, the guardian breed was immune to fire but this made silver even worse weakness to guardian breed. Damage to the brain is another danger, an example was a lead bullet through the brain would still kill a Lycan but also noted the bones of Lycan can stop most common citizen guns.

“So higher power guns are dangerous.” Eunji muttered and kept reading the text book. The next piece caught her off, and it was that Lycans could not swim in water. It explained the magic in their muscle and bone made them heavier and that was the reason why they sank like a stone.

Just like fire there was an exception to this as two breeds could swim in the water, the scout and adlet breed. “Lucky breeds…good thing we’re in land lock city…” Eunji paused as she thought. “Well there is Moon Crest Lake and the Wolftail River.”

Those were two body waters near by where most drowned bodies were found. The lake was found in a nature reserve that was on the edge of the Native American reserve and that hour drive to get to. The river ran through the city and a lot more drowned were found in it than the lake.

“I wonder how many of those were Lycans…” Eunji wondered before shaking her head at the thought. She was done with that section and went to the next mark section to find it was about biology of a Lycan.

Everything looked similar to a normal human but their stomach could handle any food and their immune system was so strong it prevented them getting sick. Eunji’s heart dropped while reading the next part, “Female lycans can not bear children due to shifts being too stressful on the embryo…”

She trailed off and let it sink into her mind and didn’t know why it made her sad. It wasn’t like she was planning to have children but something in the back of her mind cried in sadness about it.

She sighed before finishing reading, “For expectation for ‘The First’ and Adlet breeds. The First can hold off shift with no back lash, while the Adlet’s shift does not stress their body.” She paused at the end to think about it.

Eunji remembered that Juno called Eva her daughter and power radiating off her. “She must be one of ‘The First’...” Eunji whispered as it made sense in her mind. “But what if she is an Adlet?”

She was about to go to the next marked page but jumped at the knock to her door and Maria’s voice called out, “Eunji, you up?” Eunji put the book down and rushed to the door.

“Still awake!” Eunji called out as she opened the door and looked Maria up and down. She noticed right away Maria was only wearing a bathrobe and had removed all her black make up.

Eunji next noticed that Maria’s chest was larger than before and Maria had noticed Eunji’s staring. “I wear a binder normally, the girls can get in the way if I get in a fight.” Maria explained with a slight blush.

Eunji nodded in understanding and Maria waved her hand, “Anyways I came to get you to show how it looks to shift into your beast form.” Eunji stiffened from those words and fell into a cold sweat.

“We don’t expect you to do it, but see how it’s done.” Rose said and Eunji looked to the left to see Rose walking down the hall to them. She was wearing a matching bathrobe but she had hers opened up to show more cleavage.

“Where are we going to do that?” Eunji asked and both smiled from the question. Eunji didn’t feel uneasy from the smiles and she was far more curious than anything.

“You will see,” Rose cooed playfully and held out a hand to Eunji. Eunji paused before taking Rose’s hand and Maria ruffled Eunji’s hair gently.

The way the two treated her made Eunji feel like their baby sister and odd enough she liked it. Rose and Maria lead her to an elevator that was embedded within a large white roman pillar.

They enter the elevator with Rose and Maria behind her and Rose points to the down button. Eunji looked over her shoulder and looked back to the button to press it. The doors closed and Eunji felt the elevator gently lurch before moving down.

The ride down was calming and when it finally stopped and doors opened, Eunji was speechless. The doors had opened to the forest and she took a step out of the elevator to feel the cool wet grass on her bare feet.

She slowly looked up to see a beautiful starry night with a waning crescent moon and she took a deep breath. The air felt so fresh and she could hear the hooting of an owl nearby.

“Ho-” Eunji cut herself off as she remembered the first time when enter the house. “Old magic once again?”

“Ya and Eva’s interest in ecosystems,” Rose said as the other two exited the elevator. “This forest goes for miles and is a perfectly balanced almost closed ecosystem." Maria moved to Eunji and lightly bumped her shoulder playfully.

“She even got a few prey animals in here for us to hunt, like deer or rabbit.” Maria smirked and walked past Eunji. “Though Alina doesn’t like hunting here, she prefers true wilderness to hunt but this is safer for pups to learn.”

“Or quick relief for older wolves that don’t have time to go camping.” Rose said and started beside Eunji before leaning down to her ear. “Watch her closely.”

Eunji glanced at Rose before looking back at Maria and Maria slowly removed her robes. She noticed Maria had a pentagram tattoo on her left shoulder blade and there was a large scar running through it. Maria rotated her right arm and showed off a tattoo of a skull surrounded by three white roses.

Eunji slightly blush, realizing Maria was nude and she was very beautiful, almost like she was one of those Greek statues carved out of marble. That disappeared as she heard the creaking and popping of bones and Maria let out a low growl.

Eunji couldn’t fully explain but the transformation was disturbing and made her stomach turn. She couldn’t stop looking at Maria as black fur merged from her body and Maria moved to all fours in seconds.

The transformation finally ended and Eunji was stunned by the beauty of Maria’s beast form. Her fur was deep black and looked to have a silky smooth texture. At first glance the shape reminded Eunji more like a Belgian Sheepdog but Maria’s size was that of a grizzly bear and eyes blazing golden red like fire.

Maria moved to Eunji with small wine and lowered her head as if wanting pats. Eunji froze at first before reaching out and started to pet Maria. Eunji was right about the softness of Maria’s jet black fur.

“This is what a guardian breed Lycan looks like in beast form.” Rose whispered as she petted Maria’s neck before kissing the side of Maria’s muzzle. “Can you feel the power coming off her.”

“Yes…” Eunji trailed off and Rose giggled as Eunji kept petting and scratching Maria’s head. Maria was happily wagging their tail, which was making her butt wiggle as well, “Kind of reminds me of the golden retriever we used to own.”

“Maria’s wolf is a playful girl, just like Maria.” Rose explained and gently grabbed Maria’s ear to lean into it. “Meet you by the pond, Love.”

Maria pulled away and nodded to Rose before turning around to disappear into the forest. Her dark fur made it easy for her to disappear and Eunji felt slightly uneasy how fast Maria could move in that form.

“Come along,” Rose said and started to walk into the forest. Eunji gulped lightly but shook her head before following Rose into the forest.

The walk was short and they reached a small pond of water. Eunji felt nervous when she saw the water and remembered that she couldn’t swim anymore. That changed when she stepped closer to the water and saw it was barely ankle deep.

“Over here, Eunji.” Rose called and Eunji saw her standing on some rocks. There were some stone steps to get on top of them and she found them smooth to the touch.

Rose sat down crossed legged on the rock and pointed in front of her for Eunji to sit down. Eunji sat down in front of Rose and mirrored Rose’s hands being on her knees.

“Take my hands and close your eyes.” Rose said and reached out her hands. Eunji paused before taking Rose’s hands and closed her eyes. “Relax and breathe slowly.”
