The moment Lucia's mother arrived home she headed straight towards the couch and lay down face first. Snores were heard instantly. As usual Lucia sneaked close with a blanket and pillow in hand, she slightly raised her mother's head to slide a pillow under and proceeded to cover Mrs. Archer with a dark blanket. Lucia sniffed at something as she noticed a stink in the air, the blanket hadn't been washed in weeks and the sweat of a middle aged woman has created a natural fragrance. It reeked of meat and depression.
Lucia stood near her mother for a while, she considered exchanging the blanket with a cleaner one…but perhaps it'll finally remind Isobel to do the laundry on her own once in a while.
The braided girl trudged up the stairs, her shoulders still aching from carrying heavy cases up these steps. At the very least it didn't hurt as much as her face. Her nose still buzzed with pain, a unpleasant warm sensation right in the middle. The rest of her head felt cold due to the blood loss, so the feeling worsened with every second.
She took a look at the end of the hall where the guest room stood, Ichigo stood there in the dark. She was, for now, a permanent resident of the Archer home. For a second, a very long second, Lucia considered running towards the end and slamming into Ichigo's body hard enough for her to fall out the window. The clock struck midnight however, she didn't want to disturb the neighbors with sounds of shattering glass and bones. Revenge would be sweet right now, police sirens? Not so much.
"Aren't you gonna come by?" Ichigo asked just as Lucia reached for her room's handle. "I just finished setting everything up."
"Not interested." Lucia answered with zero hesitation.
"Please! Please! Please! I spend extra long decorating everything just right."
"S- Stay away from me! You're just gonna…Uh…I dunno, tackle me to your bed and choke me or- Something!
Ichigo's face flushed. "Goodness gracious. Is your head full of fantasies like that all the time?"
"…Wait, what?" Lucia genuinely struggled for a while to understand why Ichigo seemed flustered. When she picked up on what Ichigo was implying, her own skin gained a pink hue, not full on red as she was still losing blood. "I didn't mean it like that! Ugh, forget it. Leave me alone, freak."
Lucia was about to enter her room and gain some peace by snoring just as loud if not louder than her mother, but Ichigo had grabbed her collar and pulled her to the other end of the hall against her will. When they arrived in the small cube shaped space, Lucia was almost more confused than when she got kicked in the face.
Bears. Bears, bears, bears. It was like being back at her teacher's home. Except, not completely the same. For one, the bears over at Yumeko's house were much more realistic and in some kind of statue form, every bear related object was colored in ways the actual animal's fur would be. Anything with a koala was gray, anything with a polar bear was white and everything with a black bear was…well, black.
Meanwhile, there were all kinds of colors here. Every color of the rainbow in teddy bear form. The room was made for general guests not personalized for Ichigo, but if it were to be, these white walls would probably also be covered in colorful bear patterns.
"You and your aunt sure have…similar interests."
"Do you like it? I made sure to arrange them in the order a real rainbow would be. Each and every line up."
Plushies on the bed. Plushies on top of the dresser. Plushies underneath the bed. Plushies inside the dresser. Lucia laughed nervously and tried to walk out with her legs going backwards, trying her best not to alert Ichigo. Due to her eyes focusing on the pink haired girl, she didn't notice the object at her feet that had caused her to stumble and fall.
She picked up the object, it was something different for once. The only thing in this room that had nothing to do with plushies or bears. It was a wooden box, a toy box to be specific. It looked to be an antique.
…It was not there before. She would've noticed a box like this when she was pulled in.
Her feet would've bumped against it after all, or at the very least Ichigo would've stumbled over in her stead.
"Ahh, there's the crowning jewel!" Ichigo picked up the box and put it at the foot of her bed. She brushed at the top for a bit, causing large dust clouds to permeate the air. As she headed towards the window to freshen up the air again, Lucia walked closer to this one thing that just didn't belong. The top of the box read something she could barely make out as it seemed faded, the font reminded Lucia of a circus sign.
It read: Neapolitan Factory.
Neapolitan? Now that was a familiar name, one that she heard almost every day since the day she was born. She's never heard of the Neapolitans owning a factory before. From what she's heard, they deal with things like stocks and advertising. She has no idea what exactly someone with that occupation does, but one thing was for sure, this type of font would not fit in this era of minimalist design.
Lucia reached out to look what was hiding inside the wooden box. It was a huge load of absolutely nothing. Not a speck of dust, not a dead insect, no writing, not even any scratches. The inside was the complete opposite of the outside.
"Kinda sad, huh?" Ichigo said, bending down next to Lucia. "A toy box should be filled with toys, otherwise it may as well just be a regular box."
"I guess."
"I'm supposed to be getting everything for it soon though, if I'm good and don't cause trouble."
"From Ms. Hanagaki?" Perhaps rewards as a bribe? Yumeko didn't seem like the type to have a motherly touch, considering how much of a problem child Ichigo has already shown to be she's likely using the method of gifts in exchange for good behavior. It doesn't seem to be working then, if that was the case.
"Hmm…Kinda!"
"Kinda usually means no, from your parents then."
"Nah."
"…So then from who? Could you just tell me? Being spontaneous on top mysterious just makes for a shitty personality, Ichigo."
Ichigo giggled. "You would know about shitty personalities, Luc."
Lucia wasn't sure what pissed her off more, indirectly being called shitty back or Ichigo using her nickname. It was also kinda strange for Ichigo to know that nickname in the first place, it's not exactly a common one for "Lucia", but she supposed that Sieglinde must've brought her up sometime while she was in the bathroom. If not her then someone else, perhaps Rosa or Henry…Rosa was more likely, as she doesn't even think Henry showed up to school that day.
"Do you really wanna know?"
Lucia's line of thought was interrupted by the question. "Yes, I want a straight answer."
"A straight one?…That's perfect then!" She leaned close to Lucia's ear and whispered. "I'll be getting them from my love."
"Your love?…No way. There is no way."
Ichigo nodded. "Yup, from my sweetie!"
