She turned, slow, the rain sticking to her lashes. Her voice, when it came, was sharp as glass.

“And why do you follow strangers like ghosts?”

He didn’t flinch. He didn’t smile.

“Because some ghosts don’t want to be forgotten.”

Silence stretched between them, full of salt and smoke and something neither of them could name.
