After we left the hotel's bathroom, I invited Maddie to stay with me for a while in my apartment because I needed her company during this vulnerable time. We didn't discuss the pregnancy further; I think she realized how deeply affected I was by what was happening in my life right now.
It became difficult for me when Maddie left and I was alone, negative thoughts immediately hammered into my head and I began to bite my fingernails like I hadn't done in years, specifically when I ended this problem at fifteen when I could no longer stand the anxiety problems that invaded me every time I thought about my father. For years my mother would make me tea every time she saw me biting my nails with enthusiasm, so I turned on the kettle and made myself an orange tea just like my mother made me, I drank the tea slowly and went to bed, but unfortunately it didn't manage to relax me.
I was in love with Kennet, my chest ached just thinking that maybe this would end with us never speaking again, but the most important thing is that if that happened I would have to get over it no matter what.
In the morning, I opened my closet and chose a black dress that fit snugly against my body. For the first time, I stood sideways in the mirror and placed my palm on my belly, where I still hadn't seen any pregnancy. I needed to make an appointment with the gynecologist as soon as possible to find out how many weeks I was and begin the necessary care. Taking advantage of the time I had, I decided to call a clinic immediately to schedule an appointment, and I ended up with an appointment in two days.
I left early to catch the subway and walked slowly through the brightly lit streets. That was what I loved about this city. It was never dark, and even though people walked very quickly through the streets, I liked it because no one went where they weren't wanted.
Upon arriving at the imposing building, I entered, greeted the concierge, and walked toward the elevator, where I had to squeeze in due to the large number of people who entered at the same time as me. I got off on my floor, left my bag on the desk, and began organizing everything for the new day.
Maddie appeared in my sight and leaned on the desk with a smile on her face.
"Hello, honey, how are you?" he greeted her and twirled a lock of her black hair around his finger.
-Very well, just more tired than usual.
-Well, at least now you know what's bothering you- he lowered his voice and continued-when are you going to tell Kennet?
-I'll probably do it today, although I'm very nervous about his reaction. I made an appointment in two days to confirm it anyway.
"He doesn't seem like a bad guy, he's just a grump, so I'll go back to my post. Imagine the warning he'd give me if he saw me talking to you," he mocked and quickly disappeared down the hall. Everyone said the boss was a bit grumpy, and in fact he was, but he didn't act that way with me, and I could say he only behaved that way when I first arrived at his company.
I sighed heavily and watched Kennet walk out of the elevator at a brisk pace.
"Go to my office," he ordered, and I heard the door slam. Apparently he wasn't in a good mood. I grabbed my notebook and pencil, smoothed down my skirt, and headed to his office.
As soon as I entered he started ordering me things to do.
-My mother and sister are coming today, so let her in.
-Okay, anything else sir?- I asked.
-I'll leave early to sign a contract, we could get together and go to dinner- she said and immediately I remembered about the baby since today I had intentions of telling him, I didn't think it was a place to tell him I was pregnant, but if I found the right moment I would tell him.
-Sure, although if you're going to be with your family I prefer...
"No, they'll be exhausted from the trip, and they'll probably stay in a hotel, so we'll have some time alone," he whispered.
"That's what interests you most," I laughed. Kennet stood up from his post and approached me.
-You are a temptation I can't resist
