I couldn't contain the emotion of the moment and felt tears running down my cheeks. Shit, I knew I'd get sentimental.
"Is everything okay?" I asked as I dried my cheeks with the sleeve of my sweater, still absorbed in the image of my baby.
"Everything seems fine. I see your limbs are developing normally, but from now on you need to be more careful to avoid complications in the future. I'll also prescribe you some vitamins," he replied.
The doctor removed the device and I was left in my own world as I lay on the table.
My dream of being a mother would come true.
I left my mental paradise where I was thinking about a future with a baby. I came back and put my clothes back on. The doctor prescribed me vitamins to start with and to stop me from giving in to cravings, to which I frowned.
As soon as I left the clinic, I dialed Maddie's number and she answered immediately. I could tell she was waiting for my call.
"Do we need to buy clothes for the baby?" I ask anxiously as soon as I answer the phone.
"Maddie, it's confirmed, I'm pregnant," I replied and looked with deep love at the ultrasound photo of my baby, who for now only looked like a small ball.
"Don't make things up, God!" she exclaimed and began to scream like a real madwoman. "I'll be her godmother, right?"
-Maddie, don't rush it, calm down, I'm only two weeks old- I laughed and looked both ways before crossing the street.
"He's so small, I don't believe it. He'll be my favorite as soon as he sees that picture, because you have to give me one, okay?" I threatened.
-Sure, sure. As long as you don't involve my baby in any evil plans, everything's fine.
-Okay, babe, I'll leave you. Hector will pick me up in a few minutes.
-Oh, you'll have to tell me what's going on there.
-Of course I'll tell you, silly- he said and hung up.
I went to buy a nice frame to display the ultrasound and went home. I thought a huge change was coming to my life and my routine, although I only thought about the good things it would bring to my life; later I'd have a head to think about the bad. But for now, I deserved some happiness.
The first thing I did when I arrived was put the photo on the center table in my living room, right next to a floral arrangement and also where there was a photo of me with my mother. I don't know how my mother would take the news of my pregnancy, and adding the fact that I was going to be a single mother, just like her, made the news even worse.
I rested for a while and then packed all the clothes I needed for my stay with my mother, which wouldn't be for a few days. I missed her too much, and I think this was the moment when I needed her the most. I knew she wouldn't reject me for being a single mother, but I had a feeling she would be saddened by the situation. As I threw my clothes into my suitcase, I felt as if this were a goodbye. I had the feeling that I would never come back here, which was totally stupid because I would have to return later, which meant seeing Kennet again, perhaps living his life with another woman, and me being pregnant with his baby.
I didn't want to imagine myself sending flowers to his new girlfriends; that would break my heart, even though I'd already done it anyway.
I was ready to leave the drama behind for a few moments.
