"Okay, so we're going up against 21 robots. Im counting 5 swords and shields,5 crossbows and bows, 5 have snipers, and 5 have giant shields along with heavy armor on. And the last robot is still on the flying ship looking down on us, like literally. I'm making eye contact with the guy right now in this hiding place so he's most likely the boss." I informed Roby as I continued looking through the peephole in one of our hiding places that we built for hide-and-seek a year ago.
Who knew something like this would come in handy in this situation?
Roby was tapping his head trying to think but couldn't come up with anything and started folding up into its sleep mode out of fear. I looked back out the hole to see if the main robot was still looking at us, and as expected, I was still making eye contact with the guy, the only difference is that he was now sitting down in a chair.
"Okay, so maybe if we continue hiding from the other bots, the main bot will call his crew back to the ship and leave," I said to Roby, trying to reassure him.
"If I don't see a fight in 20 minutes from now, I'll be giving away your locations nonstop!!" The Robot yelled through the speakers of his ship with a laugh.
"Never mind," I said while dropping to the floor and letting out a chuckle. I honestly want to curl up in a ball and cry, but I can't, I won't.
Freedom is so close in our grasp. The path out of the trash hole is open to us now. What if we can't make it out today? All we need to do is build a tall escalator or something to lift us out of here, and that would only take a month with Roby's 1/10 chance.
I took a deep breath in and began thinking about what my next move was going to be, and after 30 seconds of thinking, I finally had an idea. It was a horrible idea, one with many flaws, but it was the only one I could come up with.
I unlocked the undercover fridge we were hiding in and peeked out to make sure we were in the clear and signaled Roby to come with me. He did follow me, but he was still shaking like a saltshaker on his way to me. I grabbed Roby and ran silently to the left side of the trash hole.
After a minute of running, I finally made it to the destination I was headed to and put Roby down slowly.
The only plan I can think of now is fighting them while using the terrain to my advantage. They are not used to all the non-stable ground in this place, and there's a bunch of cover that I can use and along with the multiple of baried items at my disposale.
I made my way to a large box that was surrounded by other trash and opened it, and suddenly feeling a mix of relief and dread all at the same time as I began to grab the items that were inside.
The first item would be a steel shovel that I hit a cement floor one day and cracked it, so I just labeled this thing as weapons-grade. The second item I have is a crossbow with 6 bolts on its quiver. The final item is the item that means the most to me, so much so that I don't carry it on my person due to fear of misplacing it.
The final item was a silver cross that was also a hidden dagger. The cross was stained with blood despite me never using it for fighting until now. But the weird thing is that the blood seems to be part of the cross's design. The cross also has two silver snakes writhing around the cross's dagger sheath. The reason why this dagger means so much to me is the fact that it proves someone in the world cared for me. The reason why I know this is because there is a message carved in the back of the cross. The message said this:
You are my entire world, and whenever you are lost, look at this cross. My faith in you is forever, my baby boy. Signed by Your Mom.
It doesn't say my mother's actual name.
This dagger was with me the moment I fell down here in this trash hole. I equipped the dagger on the hip of my suit, then handed Roby the crossbow with the 6 bolts in the quiver and finally lifted the steel shovel and gave it a light swing, trying to get a feel of it.
After we got done armoring up, we made our way to a nearby tall trash pile to scope out the robots and come up with a strategy. As soon as I looked at the hit squad, I instantly had an idea on how to deal with them. That was because their formation was all over the place with no real strategy; the ranged units, for some reason, were on the ground instead of the high ground, while most of the close-range units were spread out all across the trash hole. So, I'll just aim for the enemy the furthest from the group and pick them off one by one.
I sneaked around the trash hills that were separating us and the somewhat organized groups of robots and made my way towards the robot that was the furthest from the group. I continued sneaking around the piles until I was able to see the stray enemy robot that was Searching the inside of the fridge to see if that was where I was hiding, the robot was the sniper of the group of robots, so it would be best if I took him out quickly before he even got to shoot because the noise would signal the rest of the robots.
Roby aimed his crossbow at him, but I waved my hand at him to have him to stand by as he held my cross in my hand and unsheathed it to reveal its blade. I slowly sneaked to the unaware robot with my dagger ready to go for it. After a couple of moments of sneaking, I was finally directly behind it. I lifted up my dagger, and while it was distracted, I stabbed it into its neck. The dagger pierced its neck and managed to damage a lot of critical wiring that is in its neck, but the thing is that it made the robot start glitching out and made it start rapidly firing its sniper rifle at the ground. The shots were so loud that they had my ears ringing. I cupped my hands over my ears to block the noise until the robot's weapon was out of rounds. After the robot's last round was shot, it collapsed on the ground, and I then started running only for me to hear the last thing I'd want to hear today.
"Oof, that's just bad luck; let's hope you don't fight as badly as you sneak attack!" The main robot yelled from his speaker on his ship. The moment he got done saying that, a riot shield robot charged over the hill gunning for me. As the robot ran closer to me, its leg sank into the trash hill as it was running, and it fell down forward
I then swung my shovel with all my might as the robot fell towards me and managed to hit its head so hard that it snaped back and made the robot drop its shield. I was going to go for another swing until I saw a robot make it up the hill. This Robot one had its crossbow aimed at me as soon as it saw me.
I lunged for the riot shield the robot dropped time to lock the speeding bolt. The robot who I hit with the shovel, managed to fix its head and charged at me, ready to attack.
BANG.
A loud bang went off and shot the back of the robot's head. I quickly looked up to figure out what the loud noise was and spotted 2 more rifle bots that were walking while shooting at me, not even caring about their teammate they just shot.
As they continued putting pressure on me with their firepower, I decided to charge in with the shield in front of me towards the robots. The robots continued shooting at me despite me running full speed at them with a riot shield. I crashed into both, trying to knock them off their feet, but what instead happened was me being put to a dead stop as I hit them.
The reason why I was put to a dead stop was because these robots were a whole 2 feet taller than me, they were also heavily armored too with metal helmets.
The robots aimed their rifles at me again. I was going to backstep to gain some distance from them, but then I had an idea. I began walking towards them while my shield was still up. The robots then opened fire again without changing their strategy, even though they saw the bullets ricochet off the shield.
I continued pushing through as they continued their fire, and then it happened. The robots continued to shoot at the shield wich caused some of them shots to ricocheted back at them, that was the moment that I realized this fight was going to be easy.
The reason why these guys are team killing without any remorse and don't seem to second-guess their tactics or actions is because they don't have a conscience. Unlike Roby, who can think for himself and can come up with ideas, these guys are just doing what they were programmed to do and nothing more. That's why they aren't able to feel remorse, why they aren't changing their tactics, and also why I'm not dead yet.
That was until I felt a bolt hit me in my back. I stumbled forward and fell face first in the trash-filled ground. I looked back and saw the original robot with the crossbow, who was standing there while reloading its weapon.
I touched my back to check if there was any blood, only to let a sigh of relief. The suit managed to stop the crossbow from hitting my body due to it being built like a vest but somehow more flexible.
I got back up and was about to retrieve the shield I dropped, but then I heard heavy footsteps gaining close behind me. I spun around quickly to spot what was coming at me, only for a shield to meet my face.
I fell on the ground from the force of the hit, and quickly I attempted to get back up only for the robot to stomp on my chest to keep me in place while readying its sword to finish me off. I grabbed my cross and was ready to see if I could deflect the sword, only for a bolt to go through the robot's head. As the robot fell down backwards, I looked around to see who shot the bolt.
That's when I spotted Roby with his crossbow posted up on the fridge as he gave me his best thumbs-up despite him only having 3 fingers.
