In the wonderfully peaceful year of 1989, a greatly prestigious High School, known as BlueWaves High School, was still available for enrollment, many students went there, as it offered a variety of great subjects, clubs, and even trips to attend for fun! It was the perfect high school for anyone in Happy Tree Land to dream of!
However, all of this had changed when one of Happy Tree Land's worst incidents had happened…one that turned the school's reputation upside down, giving a normal trip to the local cinema a turn of 180º for the worst…caused by an unknown group, whose motives to this day are still unknown…an incident known by its victims and survivors as…
The Hypno Chaos, an incident that had happened in said school, causing it to have an awful reputation, and to shut down after 10 more years of operating and receiving new students, a few months before the show “Happy Tree Friends” was even aired.
Before the incident had even happened, which was a day after a nice Thursday, every student in BlueWaves was walking to school like it was a completely normal day, which actually was. Nevertheless, between all of those students, we'll be focusing on 2 of them: Teal Oakwood, a strange, shy girl who, no matter the circumstances, NEVER showed her eyes to anybody else, not even if their intentions were not ill. People bullied her for it, but there were also people who were concerned about this behavior of hers. It was a festival of judgement, bullying, curiosity and concern around her. The only person she would show her eyes to was the 2nd student: Sophie Oakwood, who was known in the school for being a smart, athletic and kind girl, which probably was the main reason why Teal only showed Sophie her eyes, she was confident enough to show them in just one blink towards her.
They were both members of the Draw n’ Paint club, which meant that they were both good at drawing…well, Sophie was there to polish her already great drawing skills, while Teal was there to learn them. Teal and Sophie were having a great time there, right before the incident had even taken place.
Back to the line of a day before the incident, Sophie and Teal were walking up to school, not without Sophie helping some students, and Teal trying to be careful with not uncovering her eyes too much. They were walking to their class, which was the exact same room for both girls. While the lesson was being given, Teal's head was already on her desk, she couldn't help feeling exhausted for the endless classes she was attending to, for the enormous amounts of homework she had to do, for the never-ending assignments she was finishing for the sake of her grades, she really felt like closing her eyes to get some rest, but it was futile, she would get detention for it, so her head was still on her desk, eyes still open.
As soon as recess started, Sophie noticed Teal's lack of energy to do something, even eat, she felt like she had to something about it
“Are you sure you're still able to last another day?” asked Sophie, concerned about her sister
“Yeah, don't worry about me Sophie, I'm fine!” Said Teal quite confidently, which only aggravated Sophie's concern for her sister.
“Teal, just because I'm smart and athletic, doesn't mean that I don't need to take breaks. Even the people with the most energy need a break.” Advised Sophie.
“I know, but I can't help not taking them, I even feel like a fool trying to take one…” Said Teal anxiously.
Sophie knew that Teal was pretty much self-demanding, but her mood, her anxiety, her lack of sleep, how could one not notice all of those signs? It was quite obvious that Teal's health was not doing well. Yet Teal did not want Sophie to worry about her, as she didn't feel worthy of so much love. Sophie, soon, had an idea.
“Hey, there's a new boba tea shop open in the school, why don't we go there?” Proposed Sophie
“That…sounds like a good idea” Said Teal happily, so both sisters went to the shop for their tea. However, the bell soon rang, it was time for the next period.
“Oh…it's class already, that's too bad…” Said Teal, disappointed.
“Don't worry, we can get it later!” Said Sophie, confidently.
After class, Teal and Sophie managed to get the boba, walking home in a peaceful afternoon, free of homework, and with nothing else to do, Teal finally managed to get some rest from a heavy quantity of homework, yet still working on projects and writings, it wasn't little work and effort. However, Teal soon fell asleep, finally managing to get the sleep she lacked for months. Sophie's concern turned into a sweet sigh of relief. She was happy her sister was finally resting peacefully on her own bed, finally free from so much stress. Sophie turned the lights off and went to bed as well, it was such a long day, wasn't it?
The next day was a special day for everybody in BlueWaves, a special day which had turned into a 2-week demise later on. Everybody was going to the cinema for a fun trip to watch a great movie. However, the few students that had rejected the trip had to stay at school in their respective clubs, even Teal and Sophie, who didn't accept the invitation and had to stay in their club, learning more drawing skills and polishing them. Luckily, if students who were clubless rejected, they could explore the school freely, and it also applied to students who had a club, yet just started to get bored of staying in just 1 place. So, Teal decided to go out and explore different clubs for the school.
First she had arrived at the Theatre club, where the only person she found there was a boy, who was rehearsing for an important piece. Teal tried to be really cautious, yet she was still noticed. Teal was frozen, she had no idea of what to do, she had no idea of what to say.
“I see that you got kinda bored of your club, is that so?” asked the boy.
“Sorta…?” Teal answered timidly. “But it was mostly because I wanted to just be out here…wandering around the school, mostly because I don't like just staying in one place for a certain time”
“I didn't quite know that there were people like that…” Said the boy, quite impressed. “Is your name Teal?”
“Oh, uhh…yeah, that's me” Answered Teal quite nervously.
“My name's Phoenix, nice to meet you.” Said the boy.
They were about to shake hands, but Teal got nervous, she felt like it was not a good thing to do, in fact, she got quite awkward trying to.
“Sorry about that, it's just that physical contact isn't my thing…” She said, pretty regretful
“No worries, can happen to anybody, even if they're ready, happens to me as well.” He responded.
“Really?” Asked Teal.
“Yep, it can be sorta awkward” He answered.
After a whole lotta chat, Teal waved Phoenix goodbye and decided to go to the basketball court, where she found a boy stuck on the heights of a hoop. The poor boy was yelling for help. Despite her being pretty shy and awkward, this didn't immediately yell “mean”, so she ran to the boy right before he lost grip and started falling. Luckily, Teal managed to carry him with the few strength she had on her arms.
“You….you saved me!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!” Exclaimed the boy excitedly.
“You're welcome, just…be careful next time” Said Teal with a mix of shyness and awkwardness.
Teal carefully released the boy so that he could go back to playing with the other 9 kids waiting for him. Teal felt so alive, yet so stressed with that situation.
Soon enough, she walked to another club, which was the Soft Cooking club, where the only one there was the school's superstar. Teal got nervous, and right before she was even seen, she ran away in panic and excitement. The girl, who had looked her way, yet didn't see her, just shrugged and went back to making the meal. Teal felt so excited to see that the school's most popular girl decided to not go on the trip, could've been because she wanted to focus mostly on her dishes rather than going on a trip where she'd been doing nothing but watching the screen.
Right before she could continue her journey, she accidentally collided with another girl, it was Cassy, her childhood friend.
“Hi, Teal! It's been so long since I last saw you!" Said Cassy enthusiastically, before noticing the eyebags on the bear “Geez, are you sure you're doing fine? you look tired!”
“Don't worry, Cassy, I'm fine.” Said Teal, trying to calm Cassy down.
Despite what Cassy thought, Insanity, after a long time, was finally ok. She had finally slept all the hours she couldn't sleep. After a long time of chatting, they, unawarely, ended up outside the Occult club. They just ignored it, and just kept walking, until something had touched Teal's arm
This caused Teal to get alarmed, and immediately jump, it was just Sophie, who was looking for her.
“I was looking for you! Where'd you go?” Asked Sophie, worried
“Eh, just here wandering around” Responded Teal. While she, Sophie, and Cassy were talking and walking, something else had touched Teal's arm, which made the 3 girls turn around and see nothing. When they turned back, they saw (and got scared) by a hooded boy.
“GAH! Oh, it's just you, Alex” Said Cassy, relieved.
“You said you were going! What are you doing here??” Asked Sophie, notoriously confused.
“I changed my mind, we were going to watch a movie I didn't really like” Responded Alex, coldly.
“Really?” Asked Teal. “Why didn't you like it?”
“It had a really generic romance plot…and I am not a fan of romance” Said Alex.
While they were chatting, they soon came across a boy, as handsome as could be, that even the most straight of all men fell for him.
“OH GOSH, IT'S GRAYBERRY!!” Yelled Cassy, excited.
“They've told me he was handsome, but not THAT handsome” Said Sophie, surprised.
“He didn't go too??” Asked Alex, confused.
“Apparently he just decided not to” Said Teal.
Before anything else had happened, Grayberry had noticed the quartet, and with a high level of confidence, he walked towards them.
“So I guess I wasn't the only one” Grayberry said. Everyone had gotten nervous, he was too cool and handsome to even be talked to. No one said a word, but Alex, who just talked to him like he was another student in BlueWaves…which was actually true.
“Yep, not a fan of romance I see?” Asked Alex.
“Nope, I actually am, but I just found the plot quite uninteresting” Said Grayberry.
“...So you two have the same plot issues?” Asked Sophie.
“Yeah…” Said the 2 boys at the same time.
“Wait, how are you 2 talking to each other so normally??” Asked Cassy, confused.
“Me and Alex have known each other since Middle School, we're great buddies! Grayberry said.
“And the whole friendship had started because of silly me bumping into him” Said Alex.
After a whole lot of talking, someone approached the group, it was the school's superstar, who had just finished one of her famous dishes.
“Hi, everyone!” Said the girl, enthusiastically.
Teal, with just seeing her started becoming as red as a tomato, not even her aqua fur could contrast it. She knew it was wrong to be fascinated by a girl being a girl as well, but she just couldn't control herself. Yet she wasn't the only one excited to see the MERE superstar in person.
“Hi, Sunny! Nice food!” Said Grayberry, fascinated.
“Thank you! I've made it for everyone who hasn't gone to the cinema, along with my classmates!” Said Sunny, happily.
“Speaking of the cinema, why didn't you go, Sunny?” Asked Sophie, excited to know about her answer.
“I just wanted to focus a little more on these treats, especially because I thought the rest of the school already got their popcorn buckets and drinks, so I made these for those who haven't eaten yet!” Responded Sunny.
“I knew it” Thought Teal.
While Sunny was answering more questions, suddenly, the kid who was saved by Teal started yelling
“Bus! Bus! Bus!” Yelled the kid.
“Geez, you're right! It's the bus! Said Phoenix.
Teal, along with the other 20 kids in the school immediately looked through the windows, and noticed the 7 busses arriving. However, something was odd…
Everyone was walking in a robotic-like way, and their expressions were blank, almost as if they were robots ready to obey any sort of command.
“What's with our classmates?” Asked Cassy, terrified.
“I have no idea…”Said Phoenix
It was all clear, what was supposed to be one of BlueWaves's many trips ended in what was known as...
THE HYPNO CHAOS
