As long as I've remembered, life has always been standing still. Nothing moving, nothing changing, nothing new. Life started feeling black and white. Like when eating chicken seasoned with only salt and pepper, bland and boring. Without noticing, at some point, I stopped looking forward to going to sleep or to wake up at all. I dreaded the mornings when I had to wake up and go to university. I found myself struggling to wake up everyday.
Until today. Tell me why I wake up to someone sitting with their legs crossed in the corner of my room? A person? They looked far from it, they looked more like an angel with their… wings and halo.. Their white hair and pale golden eyes? I rubbed my eyes, again and again. I then started laughing. This wasn't real. I was just a little tired, that's all. They didn't even react to me laughing on my own. That thing- looking like an angel, it definitely just me being half-asleep. Yeah.
I promptly get out of bed and walk across my messy room. I accidentally stepped on some old pizza box on the floor. I knew I had to organize all the clothes, books and random junk off the floor. I just couldn't find the energy to, yet knowing that if I did, I could possibly find the energy work around the apartment. I went to the bathroom to do my usual business. After sitting on the toilet for 15 minutes-ish, I finally forced myself to take a shower and then go back to get dressed.
When I returned to my room, the 'angel' was still there, only now they were inspecting their nails? I tried looking around the room to seem normal, but ended up going to change in the bathroom. Suddenly my apartment didn't feel like my own. A little while later I was finally ready. I picked up my bag that should definitely be washed later and left the apartment. My stomach growled and I gently put my hand over my stomach as I entered the elevator.
Now tell me why, when I entered the elevator, the 'angel' entered as well? They looked up with an uninterested expression. I tried to stay composed, but the shock just came through. I tried to at least not look their way. When the elevator doors opened, I bolted out, heading to the nearby kiosk. I kept my head down, picked a pre-made sandwich, some sweets and a drink and headed to the check out with my little basket filled with the things I picked. I handed it out to the young girl behind the counter and she began checking them one by one.
I swallowed and asked in a quiet voice. "Excuse me?"
The young girl shot me a look, seeming annoyed by me starting a conversation. "Yes?"
"Um, do you see that short person over there, standing outside alone?" I try to discreetly point out the window. She follows my finger and squints her eyes. "The one with the short white hair.. And um.."
She then turned her head back at me and raised her eyebrow, looking even more annoyed. "There's like, no-one there?" She said with an attitude, her voice high and exaggerated. "Are you like, okay?" she asks. Though it didn't sound like she was asking out of genuine concern. I just nodded, embarrassed to utter another word.
She just looked at me and said in an exasperated voice "Okay, that's like, 12,30€"
I ended up paying with my card and took the bag that had all my purchases inside and left the kiosk. That 'angel' still stood there. I ignored them, I started walking toward the university, thankfully it wasn't far from my apartment. I walked and walked, the 'angel' walked behind me, following my trail. Each time I stopped, they stopped. When I kept going, they followed. It was getting a little frustrating, I started feeling like this wasn't me being half asleep or something.
By the time I had arrived at the university and gone to the veterinary departments auditorium, they. Were. Still. There.
At this point I was at a loss...
