In the back of the building, we sit on the grass up next to the outer walls. This spot is in the shade, hidden in a weird wall area. This is where I told her everything. The lady on my chest, the woman that disappeared at the bus stop, my dream about the library place, all of it. As I told her the events, she hid her shock behind nods and “okay”s.
“Okay… so, what does it want us to do? Like I know we need to find her, but she could literally be anywhere. We don't have any leads.”
“I don’t know.” I sigh defeatedly, holding my head and staring at the ground.
Demy put her arm around my shoulders, as a mother would. “Do you remember when we were freshmen? We used to sneak out of the house so you could go to your girlfriend’s house. I was the best wingman.” She comforted me with a chuckle. “Every time, I had to lift your fat ass up into that window, you were so determined. Any opening, high or low. We made it happen. That’s pretty impressive considering your parents.”
I continued to stare at the ground.
“All that to say, you’ve done some crazy shit.” Demy said as the BFF she is. “So what makes you think this is any different?”
I ponder for a second to consider her reasoning, then let out a sigh. “Yeah… I guess you might be right.” My head swivels to look at her, looking very pleased with my agreement.
Demy perked up suddenly. “Okay! Now we gotta tell the rest of our little friends!”
My expression fell slightly. “Uhh…”
She got up before I could disagree, making her way to her little ultramarine Toyota. I followed her playfully yet reluctantly, as I didn’t have much of a choice.
