Class was ongoing. The Angel sat on one of the lined chairs behind me, blocking another student's view, but seeing how they were not reacting and taking notes normally, they didn't notice the 'Angels' presence. They still held that same uninterested expression as they listened to the professor's lecture.
Looking closer at them, I was a hundred per cent convinced that they were an angel at this point. I mean, no human would have this refined facial features that looked out of a video game. Long white lashes, crystal-like yellow eyes and clear brown skin… And those wings and halo? The individual feathers on the wings and the obviously glowing halo?? Too real. Too real.
As I inspected them closely, I hadn't noticed that their eyes were directly looking at mine. The moment I realised I jolted in surprise and turned back to face my laptop, head down. Did they see me? Will I be killed...?? I mean, honestly not that I would mind. No-one would notice either.
Those same thoughts kept replaying in my head until the lecture ended. Thankfully I only had one class for the day and headed home without talking to anyone or making eye contact with any student nor teacher.
By the time I had arrived home… I was still followed by them. I honestly gave up and stopped caring. If they were an actual angel or ghost, it didn't matter. I will be long gone soon to keep worrying about this nonsense.
Days kept passing by and the angel was still around. They didn't really look at me, but something about them following me started feeling comforting. Putting things in place, covering me fully with my blanket whenever I slept, sitting next to me when I was crying. It felt special. It felt like I was taken care of…loved. I found myself looking forward to seeing them each morning, to see what they would do next.
Is this what people call love?
A few weeks later, I felt like I had to talk to them.
"Um, excuse me?" I waved my hand in front of their face. The angel looked at my hand, their blank expression unmoving for a while, then their eyes twitched, slowly their whole face scrunched as their eyes finally reached mine. Their expression was something between stunned and mortified.
"I- is everything okay…?" I asked. I wanted to pat their shoulders, but I wasn't sure they'd be okay with that.
"…What?" They spoke for the first time. Their voice cold and firm. Suddenly I felt frozen in place, that same feeling of comfortability wasn't there anymore. "Are you speaking to me?" Their pale eyes locked to me.
This was the moment I had to tell them. I reached out to hold their hands between mine. I tried my best to sound calm and natural. "Mister Angel, I need to be honest with you. I… I think I love you…!"
The disgust on their face was apparent but I believe that they might have just been that surprised by the confession..!
The Angel pulls their hands away and wipe them on the fabric of their white dress. I felt a slight pang in my heart. "What are you doing? What is this nonsense you're making me listen to?"
Before I could get another word out, they held one hand up. "No. How are you even seeing me? I wasn't notified of this. Since when?"
Was I supposed to feel scared? Why did their angry and disgusted face appeal to me this much? Was it because they looked at me?
The angel backed off. "What is with that face you're making?" They sigh and they put their hand on their forehead, still keeping eye contact with me. "I knew you were unwell, but I did not know you were this far gone."
Ouch. I knew I was a messy and lazy person who's unable to talk to people properly, but it's not like I was "unwell".
"Now respond to me. Since when."
"A f-few weeks.."
They thought for a while then let out a long sigh as their face became troubled. "Good Heavens… I'm not compensated enough for dealing with this…"
"Um-"
"Sush." Within a second I was silenced. They walked up to the window and opened it, putting one leg on the windowsill. Their feathery white wings appeared and stretched, I realised they were about to leave. I ran to them.
"U-um..! Are you leaving, because.. I confessed? I swear I won't do anything, p-please stay.."
They raised their eyebrow with their blank expression and jumped out the window. When I ran to the window to see where they'd dropped, they were already gone.
Suddenly, just like that, I was alone again. Alone in this sad and stuffy apartment.
