Secret of An Alpha: Retribution

Chapter thirteen

Chapter thirteen

Oct 05, 2025

When Luke approached the infirmary, he saw one of Creek Pack warriors outside the door, together with his warriors. They seemed to be getting along well. It's a pity they were going to part soon.

When they saw him, they bowed in respect and Luke nodded his head. Even the guest warrior showed his respect. They let him pass, opening the door for him.

He grumbled out a thanks, then entered the room.

When he entered, he found Rolus sleeping soundly. The beeping of the machine was too much for his ears, wondering how could someone stand the noise.

Guess Tamera was right about the woman. He found her all snuggled up next to Rolus on the single bed, her arm on Rolus' chest.

And again, Tamera was right about the woman being mated. How low could she stoop...

Luke only saw another person when he heard snores. There was another man who was sleeping on the floor, curled up into himself and snoring.

He just shook his head and headed to Rolus, actually seeing him for the first time this close. He felt like a creep looking at somebody sleeping, but it's not like anyone else was going to know.

Looking at Rolus' pale face brought back hidden memories. He had suppressed them to not feel pain because the man lying on the bed was pain himself. He inflicted so much pain in Luke's life in just a day, making his life standstill.

He could remember it like it was yesterday, the night the moon was at its fullest.

It was Rolus' birthday party where they were invited. Every Pack they could think of pitched to witness the Creek Pack soon-to-be Alpha turning of age. In only a few weeks after his party, he would be crowned the new Alpha.

It was a joyful night, filled with laughter and such positive energy, everyone actually having a good time because the soon-to-be Alpha was a whole mood. He had made everyone adore him with his charming smile and a personality like no other, like everything in the world was perfect. Luke had went with his twin and parents, all dressed to the occasion. His parents were actually enjoying themselves, even his mother was letting loose, not being too uptight.

What they thought would be a pleasant night turned out to be much worse when Luke realised that his twin sister was nowhere by his side. He went to look for her in the house, only to find her struggling to breathe in the kitchen. There was no one else in the room, only them. He tried to make her calm down, even tried CPR, but nothing was working.

The problem was that Luke and Lucia had already turned eighteen a month ago, and the Pack Healer did warn them that Lucia's days were numbered if she did not find her mate.

That day had arrived and there was not a single person that could've helped her, except her mate, but the said mate was nowhere to be found.

He remembered yelling for help, for anyone to help his sister, but the music outside was too loud and everyone was having a blast.

He also remembered Lucia calming down, able to breathe properly, but the tears in her eyes told him that she was in so much pain, so much pain that she could not bear it anymore. All she had known all her life was pain, pain and pain. She had been a sick girl, always coming in and out of their emergency rooms, their mother having to wake up at ungodly hours because her baby girl was struggling to either breathe or bear the pain. It was too much for her.

He didn't even think for a moment of leaving her alone because her grip on his arm was deadly, not intent on letting him leave her alone, at least she could have someone when she breathed her last breath.

He tried to reassure her that everything was going to be alright, that she should hang on, with tears falling on his sister's face.

She told him that it was okay, that she loved him to the moon and back and that he would find his mate, unlike her.

She also told him that the pain was too much for her, that she couldn't hold on anymore.

It was in that moment of goodbyes that Rolus came into the room, witnessing the scene unfold before his eyes.

Luke told him to help his sister, but he just stood there, looking at them.

Luke didn't even hear what Rolus said, all he heard was him rejecting his sister. He only heard their last name being uttered from Rolus' lips, then his sister died.

Luke knew at that moment Rolus rejected his sister, hence she died. She was dying, but Rolus, her mate, had a chance to save her but he chose otherwise.

He chose to reject his mate, watch her die, then walk away like nothing happened. He went on with his life, pretending like he did not just kill his mate, Luke's sister and somebody else's daughter. He moved on with his life, like nothing happened, like he did not just kill someone's else's beloved daughter and sister. He moved on with his life, thriving in everything he did, not having regrets or looking back. He moved on whilst Luke struggled to move on.

Luke wondered why Rolus rejected his sister. The girl was beautiful, brave and strong. She trained with the warriors, hoping that one day she would find her mate and her wolf would appear, then she'd become a warrior, her brother's personal bodyguard. They would rule together the Pack as she also had strong Alpha blood coursing through her veins. After all, her mother also had Alpha blood and her father was an Alpha. They were bound to be the strongest pair of twins to dominate the werewolf world.

She had her life planned out, even though she knew she did not have much time. She was optimistic, so hopeful that her mate would save her. Did she know that Rolus was her mate? Did she hear him reject her?

Did Rolus reject her because she was sick? Everyone knew that once she found her mate, her wolf might appear and she would've gotten to live longer.

Did he reject her because she was an Alpha too and thought they couldn't work out?

Did he reject her because she was from Black Moon Pack?

There was so much running through his head after the funeral. Luke cried enough that one night, enough that he had no tears left to cry anymore when his sister was buried. His parents were devastated, his mother losing weight to the point that clothes only hung on her, instead of hugging her beautiful body. His father tried to he strong for the both of them and the Pack. The man did so much during their grieving period and still hurting at the same time.

Lucia was destined to die, but there was still hope lingering that her mate would save her. Her death was inevitable, but there was hope. Everyone hoped that her mate would save her, but little did they know that her mate was the one who would kill her. The one person who was supposed to love her killed her. He killed her when he could've saved her.

That night, Luke felt her slipping away, a part of him dying along with her.

Luke had grabbed a pillow from the floor, inching closer to the bed. He didn't know what he was doing, but all he knew was that the man lying on that bed had caused his family so much pain and cost his sister's life.

He loomed over Rolus' body, the pillow ready to suffocate him. He gulped, his hands shaking when he lowered the pillow down onto Rolus' face.

He released a shaky breath, his heart pounding. It was a miracle how the lady on the bed didn't feel his presence.

He didn't want to do this, but there was no other way. He was going to stop terrorizing the Creek Pack, but Rolus had to die. He had to die. He didn't deserve to live when he killed an innocent girl. A girl who had so much to live for, a girl despite dying, lived.

He lowered the pillow down on his face, pressing a little. He put pressure on the pillow, pressing a little harder. The more he pressed, the louder the machine beeped. It was going to wake up the people in the room, and the others outside might hear. He pressed too hard, putting all his might into the pillow.

He saw the lady stir, probably being awakened by the beeping. When she opened her eyes, Luke had already thrown the pillow on the floor, distanced himself from the bed and locking eyes with the woman.

"What's going on?" she asked, getting off the bed and checking on Rolus. She kicked the man on the floor, who also arose.

"What are you doind in here?" the man asked, narrowing his eyes at Luke.

"What do you mean what am I doing in here? This is my house and I have every right to be in here," he replied, glaring at the two. At least the machine had calmed down.

"You can't just stand there and look at us sleep. This is invasion of privacy," the woman said, adjusting the linen on Rolus' body.

"I came to tell you to leave my house. We'll make sure your Alpha is driven safely back to your Pack. You can't spend the night here," he said, crossing his arms over his chest.

"What do you mean we can't be here? He's sick, can't you see?" the man argued, the worried look he wore not doing anything to Luke.

The people had to leave before he committed murder.

"It's okay, Theo. Thank you for your hospitality, Alpha Luke. Don't worry, we'll drive ourselves back to our Pack. And I must say, you do know how to treat your guests right," she was being sarcastic, mocking him.

It was okay, as long as they left.

"If you need assistance with him, my men will gladly help you. Have a safe trip," he turned on his heels and went to the door, then opened and exited.

"George, go help in there. They're leaving," Luke told one of his warriors, who stood up and nodded, going into the room with a very confused Creek Pack warrior.

They couldn't be here any longer. They needed to leave.

With that, Luke went out the front door, feeling the air bite his face. He breathed it in, cherishing the time he had and grateful that he awoke. He didn't remember how he was when in coma, nor how he felt. All he knew was that he felt horrible and he needed to release all the pent up anger, grieve and hate. He had so much hate in him that he was afraid that it would consume him someday.

When he saw the front door open and their guests leaving, with Rolus being pushed on a stretcher, he ran into the woods, letting the air smack his face. It was starting to become chilly, the days shorter and nights longer.

He ran until he felt like his lungs couldn't take the cold air anymore, ran until he passed all the tall trees and ran 'til he couldn't hear his thoughts anymore.

His legs were starting to sting because he was still recovering, so he shifted into his wolf, continuing his run. He found himself heading over to Eclipse Cliff, where he was told Peter was attacked there. Maybe he could pick up which wolf was with Peter.

He bet his life that it was Shadow Pack's wolf. He needed to investigate because Peter's wound was not healing like it should, which meant someone was tempering with something dangerous, and that something could wipe out the whole Pack.
