A few days after their abrupt departure from the honeymoon penthouse, Lisa and Luke returned to his house. As they entered, the entire household staff was lined up to welcome them home. Luke walked at the front, with Lisa following closely behind him. They made their way up the stairs, with Dorcas, the head maid, hurrying to keep pace with Luke.
"Sir, you were supposed to be on your honeymoon for a minimum of two weeks, but it's barely been a week and you're back home," Dorcas said, her curiosity getting the better of her. Luke didn't seem to notice her question, or perhaps he simply chose to ignore it. "I want a chamomile tea," he demanded, his voice firm and commanding.
Dorcas nodded and quickly turned to see to his request, her eyes flicking briefly to Lisa before she hurried off to the kitchen. Luke continued up the stairs, with Lisa still following behind him, her expression unreadable.
As they reached Luke's room, Lisa hesitated, pausing in the doorway instead of following him inside. Luke noticed her hesitation and turned back to her, a hint of amusement in his voice. "I don't bite," he said.
Lisa's eyes carefully scanned the room before she stepped inside, her movements cautious. Luke was already removing his wristwatch, his attention focused on his own needs. "You can stay here while I get your room fixed," he said, his tone dismissive.
Lisa's face reflected her displeasure. "Where is it?" she asked, her voice firm. "I don't mind fixing it myself or having to wait in it until it needs to be fixed." Luke raised an eyebrow, seemingly surprised by her response, and then described the location of her room.
But Lisa was already impatient, unwilling to spend another moment longer than necessary in Luke's presence. Without another word, she rushed out of the room, leaving Luke standing alone, his expression unreadable.
The room assigned to Lisa was conveniently located near Luke's, with a connecting door between the two rooms. However, Lisa had made sure that the door was locked, creating a clear boundary between their spaces. As she scanned the room, she noticed that everything was in order and nothing needed to be fixed.
One of the maids brought in her luggage, and shortly after, Dorcas entered the room, introducing herself and welcoming Lisa to the household. "Welcome, ma'am. Let me have your room fixed for you, madam," Dorcas said, her tone polite and attentive.
But Lisa declined the offer, saying she was fine. "Thank you, I'm okay," she replied, her voice courteous but firm. Dorcas nodded understandingly. "Madam, I'll let you rest. Tomorrow, I'll introduce you to all the staff members who work under you, ma'am," she said, her words a gentle reminder of Lisa's role in the household.
Lisa gave a nod, and Dorcas excused herself, leaving Lisa alone in her room. The silence that followed was a welcome respite for Lisa, who was still adjusting to her new surroundings.
