The next morning, Luke got dressed and left the house without making any noise. Lisa waited until she was certain he had gone before emerging from her room. She looked pale and drawn, her eyes sunken from lack of sleep. As she made her way downstairs, her movements were slow and lethargic.
Upon entering the kitchen, the maids stood still, greeting her with a chorus of respectful voices. "Good morning, madam," they chimed in unison. Dorcas stepped forward, her eyes expectant. "What would you like for breakfast, madam?" she asked.
Lisa was taken aback by the sudden attention, and she stood frozen, unsure of how to respond. Dorcas's voice came in again, "We've made coffee for Mr. Luke, madam. Would you like something similar?" Still confused, Lisa didn't reply. The maids began to suggest various dishes they could prepare for her, but she didn't seem to hear them.
Without a word, Lisa turned and walked back to her room, her movements gentle and quiet. She slid into bed, seeking the comfort and solitude of her own space. The encounter with the maids had left her feeling overwhelmed and uncertain.
Luke sat at a coffee shop with his secretary, Brown discussing some pressing matters. Brown, known for his intuitive nature, couldn't help but speak his mind. "Sir, shouldn't you still be on your honeymoon?" he asked, his voice laced with curiosity. "You have a few more days, don't you?"
Luke's expression turned icy, and he shot Brown a deadly look that silenced him instantly. Brown's eyes widened, and he cleared his throat, choosing to focus on the documents in front of him instead.
Just then, Alice, luke's other secretary, joined them, and both Brown and Luke looked up to her, expecting a response. "Yes, I got the documents," she said, her voice hurried as she took a seat beside them.
After they had concluded their abbreviated honeymoon, Luke was able to return to the office, resuming his usual routine. Lisa, on the other hand, remained at home. After Luke had departed, she slowly got out of her room and sat quietly at the table, her presence almost unnoticed by the household staff.
The staff served her the breakfast they had prepared earlier, since Lisa had refused to specify what she wanted. They had taken it upon themselves to make what they thought she might like. Lisa picked at the food, eating only a little before pushing the plate away. She then got up and went upstairs, her movements quiet and unobtrusive.
Upon reaching her room, Lisa let out a deep breath and looked around at the unfamiliar space. She decided it was time to make it her own and began to unpack her belongings. Since arriving, she had left her boxes untouched, not allowing anyone to help her organize her things. Instead, she had spent her time crying and feeling lost.
With newfound determination, Lisa set to work arranging her belongings and putting her room in order. Afterward, she took a refreshing shower and came downstairs, feeling more energized. Her curiosity got the better of her, and she decided to explore the house.
As she wandered through the halls, Dorcas spotted her and approached with a smile. "Ma'am, can I introduce the staff to you now?" she asked, explaining that she hadn't had the chance to do so since Lisa's arrival. Lisa agreed, and Dorcas arranged the staff, including the gardeners, cooks, and drivers, for a formal introduction.
The staff members greeted Lisa with respect, and she responded with a warm smile. Once the introductions were over, everyone returned to their posts. Lisa asked Dorcas to give her a tour of the house, eager to familiarize herself with her new surroundings. After the tour, Lisa returned to her room and pulled out a piece of paper, her intentions unclear.
