CHAPTER 3

While Angie hadn’t gotten as much information as she would have liked, she did get enough. So far, all but one suspect had an alibi. She had to figure out where Robert was on the night, but when they called him in, he was at work; therefore, he was probably at work or asleep at the time of the crime. This meant new suspects, but one of the four people on that list is definitely linked to the crime.

“We found three new suspects who could have been here on the night of the crime.” John's arrival snapped Angie back to reality.

“Also, the autopsy report came back. She was strangled by what they believe to be a rope.”

“Thanks, John,” Angie relayed all she had gotten from the interview. He listened closely and mentioned that while he also felt her pain was genuine, there was something she was hiding.

“Well, what do you want to do. We could bring her back in for questioning?”

“No, we need to question the other suspects first, but when we do come back to interview her, we need to record it, and I want to be in the room.”

“Alright, has Robert Gelding arrived yet?”

“Not yet, but Greg Peal is ready for questioning,” John followed Angie into the room and pulled out a notebook of his own.

After questioning Greg for a solid hour, Angie and John both agreed that while the fight did look suspicious, he did have a solid alibi and hadn’t received any calls or messages last night or this morning. He seemed innocent.

“We need to have a closer look at his phone, but he seems to be telling the truth for the most part,” John stated. While Angie wanted to believe her partner, she still felt something didn’t fit.

“He said he went out for drinks with his boss, right? We need to check the location of both of their phones from the time they left to the time Greg got back.”

“I completely agree, but what do you mean by something doesn’t fit?”

“He seemed well-rested, he had no dark circles under his eyes, and he was only gone for half an hour. He claimed that he had two beers that night, but he would be slightly hung over based on how quickly he had the drinks.”

“I will never get over how brilliant your mind is.”

“I thought we agreed to compliments or flirting while we’re at work.” Angie blushed. John gave her a quick kiss and told her that the agreement was only in place in front of other people.

“And anyway, I love my wife and want to show it sometimes,” John left, and Angie was left alone with her thoughts once more.

She hated to admit it, but this case gave her an uneasy feeling. Absentmindedly, she traced the scar that ran from her wrist to her elbow. No, she didn’t have time to dwell on the past; she had work to do.
