I was impressed the day I learnt that 70% of our world is covered in ocean. I was not impressed however, learning that only 4 countries make up 55% of our greenhouse gasses that pollute the Earth, which is also raising sea levels. I was impressed the day I learnt that 10% of the coral systems consists of the Great Barrier Reef. I was not impressed however, when I learnt that we have killed 50% of coral reefs since the 1950’s. There are so many things that we can and should be impressed by in nature, but there are so many things that we, humans have done to the world that certainly doesn’t and shouldn’t impress us. We can and should do better to protect the dying ecosystem.
