We toss and turn in Demy’s little car, that she drives around like a go-kart.

I look through the window, watching the trees as they whizz by until we stop in Josh’s driveway.

His house isn’t anything special, a one story White house with a striking red door. All the curtains were closed, hiding all that could be happening in this quaint little home.

“My parents aren’t home yet, so do what you’d like.” Josh introduces, as we walk up the bare steps to the bright crimson door.

Once he opens the door, the first room of the house you see is the kitchen, barely big enough to fit a sink, dishwasher, oven, microwave, etc.

Walking further, we get to the living room. A brown couch pushed against the wall across from the TV, which me and Dem sit on. 

“The bed isn’t set yet but I’ll make sure it’s ready.” 

“Oh, yeah. That's fine. Thanks!” 

Josh leaves to the small kitchen.

I feel so welcomed in this house. Josh was my, kinda toxic, ex-boyfriend’s brother. The break up between us was… messy, but Josh knew how much of an asshole his brother was. He helped me through it, getting me out of the depression     Cantalope    had put me in. 

He’s helped me through so many other issues in my life like my parents’ divorce and the death of my… dog.

Josh comes back from the kitchen with a plate of little sargento cheeses and crackers arranged like a little budget charcuterie board. 

Josh picks up the remote. “You wanna watch something?”

“Hmmmm… how about…” I sarcastically tap my finger on my chin. “Vampire Gatcha videos!” 

“Oohhhh yes~.” Demy enthusiastically cheered.

As we dubbed dramatic vampire gatcha, the time came to go to bed. Josh had made my bed for the night and Demy watched us.

“Dem, are you staying over tonight?” I couldn’t help but ask. 

“Auhhh… I dunno. Do you think you’re safe from that thing?”

My muscles stiffened at the thought. “…” 

Demy waited for an answer but there was none. “I-I’ll stay. Okay?”

I gave her a resentful grin of gratitude. It’s not like I want her to stay. Why can’t I just handle this myself? I’ve done it before. She’s just a stupid ghost lady!
