Neapolitan Nightmares

Chapter: 18

Chapter: 18

Oct 12, 2025

Most students of Sellavie Elementary had gone home by now, as it would soon turn completely dark outside. The day was over, tensions still high, especially between two girls who were worrying their head off about the possibility that a murderer was not only loose, but also targeting THEM specifically.

With careful steps they eventually left the school gates like the others…not noticing that someone was missing. Or, more likely, not caring.

Olivia was mixing a bowl of cream in the cafeteria kitchen, alone.

The cooking club had spent most of today finally getting rid of a rat nest that had been sitting in the cafeteria kitchen for almost three months now, as everyone was getting sick of ingredients disappearing or getting chewed on by the critters. It was good to finally scratch that off the bucket list, but it also was rather inconvenient as Olivia couldn't find a moment to actually cook during active cooking club hours.

Her father was a busy man, a teacher who taught at this school, so he never really found the time to learn how to make lunches. Olivia's grandma was a great cook, but she was also very old and sickly, her hands just don't quite move in the same way they used to.

Olivia still mourns the loss of the fashion club, but perhaps it was fate that brought her to the cooking club instead. No longer would her stomach grumble, no longer did she have to force down the awful goop made by the cafeteria staff. The club could pick any ingredients and use all of the tools. Although dirty, this kitchen was much bigger and better than the one in Olivia's home.

Did she feel guilty about staying late when she isn't supposed to? Yes. Was she starting to get antsy once she noticed it was pitch black outside? Also yes.

However, she just absolutely had to try out this new recipe suggested by Rosa. The strawberry sando.

It seems so simple, yet so very delicious. She couldn't wait to wake up tomorrow and feel the cream covered fresh fruits squished between slices of pillowy bread in her mouth. Just the thought was making her mouth water. The thought of a sweet treat alleviated her fear of the night…for a while.

As she assembled the sandwiches, Olivia started to notice noises. At first she told herself that it was probably just a leftover rat still scurrying around…but the noise wouldn't stop. She could very clearly hear someone walking through the halls. Who, aside from herself, could possibly still be hiding inside Sellavie at this hour?…Well, it was only 8PM. Maybe a teacher or the janitor was still around. Yes, that is what she will accept as the truth. That is definitely the case.

The footsteps eventually went quiet, Olivia sighed with relief…then she heard the cafeteria door swing open.

Olivia quickly turned off the lights, a decision she regretted instantly as she hadn't chosen a spot to hide yet. She dove under a random table, her heartbeat speeding up.

She could hear someone jump over the counter.

Olivia heard…chewing?

She risked a look, noticing a short figure in the dark. A figure roughly her same height but with long hair that appears to be very fluffy. Long fluffy hair…she's met someone like that recently. "Ichigo…Is that you?" Olivia asked.

The shadowy figure fiddled with the light switch, revealing that indeed it was the recent transfer student. Olivia didn't have to worry about a sudden attacker…she had to worry about a sandwich thief, as Ichigo was casually devouring one of the delights.

"Hey!" She snatched away the half eaten treat from Ichigo's grubby hands. "You can't just put anything you find in your mouth! Especially if it's not even done yet!!!"

Ichigo stuck out her tongue. Olivia interpreted it as a rude gesture when in reality Ichigo just wanted to lick away the leftover cream around her mouth. "Hmm, so they weren't done yet…No wonder the cream doesn't taste quite right. You gotta freeze these until morning, right?"

"…Yes." Olivia responded. "I was about to pack them up and cool them at home." She's worried that if she left the sandwiches here, the cafeteria staff will devour them. "Have you had this type of bread before? Rosa told me that they're popular in Japan…"

Ichigo looked side to side, shaking her head in each direction with delayed reaction. "Nope! I haven't. My mom did though, she said these were her favorites as a kid…They don't taste like cake at all! My mom is a liar!!!" She yelled.

Olivia took a step back, she packaged the slices in wrap again and stuffed them into her bag. She meant to leave as quickly as possible, however she couldn't help but ask: "Ichigo, what are you doing here anyway? I thought you'd be going home with Lucia and Sieglinde." She heard through the grapevine that Lin was staying at the Archer household as well now…The "grapevine" being Xaiden.

"My angel senses tingled." Ichigo said with a casual shrug. Olivia stared at her for a while, but there was no sign of a follow up explanation coming. "Good thing they finally started too, Lin has been getting paranoid."

"…?" Everything this girl said made Olivia feel unwell. "If you don't want to tell me, fine…You should be going home now though, after midnight some really strange people could come out!" Like the one standing in front of her right now, but armed with weapons and between the ages of 13 to 17.

"What do you mean? I just told you, my angel senses tingled."

"I don't understand what that means…Is that a code for saying that you have to use the bathroom?"

Ichigo giggled. "It means that someone strange is here, right now." Her round eyes stared up at the ceiling. "They've been waiting for a while to show themselves. See, I took away the chance just as they came in."

Olivia had enough, she could deal with weird sentences and overall strange behavior, she wouldn't be friends with Rosario if she couldn't. What she can't deal with though are bullies, bullies who very clearly are trying to threaten or terrify. She whipped her head around, stepping out of the kitchen area.

There she stood in the hall, just about to open the door.

There they stood, blocking the door.

"…Ichigo?"

"Yes, Olivia Mel?" Ichigo had answered from behind, she was still in the kitchen.

If Ichigo was over there, who was standing in front of her? How long had they been here? Why were they approaching rapidly? Lastly, how come Olivia's legs wouldn't move?

"Move.

Move, move, move.

Run, stupid!"

Olivia whispered to herself just before her mind went blank.

…"Dodge, dummy!"

Ichigo grasped Olivia's hair and pulled her back rather roughly. At first Olivia remained frozen, not having noticed that she had gone relatively unharmed aside from a stinging sensation as her head fell to the floor. This pain was nothing compared to how Ichigo probably felt right now. She was the one getting currently stabbed after all.

The town of Berrymarrel, a quiet and honestly boring little town where nothing ever happens. At least not anymore, now that "The Wolf" is no longer roaming the streets. Nobody was prepared for his return, the serial killer who's always seen yet never caught.

It's up to three girls at Sellavie Elementary to end his story.

Sieglinde, who wants answers. Lucia, who wants revenge and Ichigo, who's just trying to have fun with her besties.

(All characters are depicted as 18 or older, even if stated otherwise.)
