I'm so exhausted from this weird ghost situation, it's all I’ve been thinking about. I just want to sleep, or even just rest! How am I going to fix this?
We hear Josh’s mother open the door. “Josh! Who’s staying over tonight!?” She yelled across the small house, like she too was exhausted… probably not from a crazy ghost woman.
Josh peered his head around the corner. “Emilia and Demy! Their parents said they could!”
“Oh, alright!” She walked to her room and slammed the door shut.
Josh came back to the living room and finished unfolding the couch into a bed for me and Dem. He put two twin blankets on the bed and two pillows for each of us.
I sat on the bed, feeling the soft throw blanket. “Thank you so much. You’re amazing.”
Josh leaned down to give me a much needed hug. “No worries.” He squeezed me tighter. “Be safe tonight.” His embrace released and I looked up at him.
“M’kay! Goonight!” I blurted, quickly tucking myself into the bed, which made him snicker.
Demy sat down next to me in her baby pink cat pajamas (she has the best style). She yawns, holding her hand in front of her mouth. “Are you even tired yet? You look wide awake.”
I look at my bitten nails and the dry blood around my cuticles.
Dem places her hand on my shoulder and stares softly into my eyes. “Don’t worry about tonight. I’ll be right next to you if anything happens.”
I sigh, like the air in my lung carried all the weight of my situation, in the biggest sigh. “I-.” I just want to say all the doubtful things, but I trust her with my life. “Yeah, I guess you’re a pretty light sleeper.”
Dem smiles then turns to shut off the lamp. “Goonight.” She wishes me, before rolling into a blanket burrito.
