Eunji was lying in her bed and staring up at the ceiling at three in the morning. She could feel Starlight was fast asleep and Eunji felt relaxed from that fact. Eunji tried to let herself sink deeper into her new mattress before sitting up and looking around her room.
Since she’s been at the mansion she has slowly replaced pieces of furniture day by day. She was able to do this after being told that Eva had set up a finance profile for her and no longer had to worry about money, as long as she didn’t go too crazy like buying a fleet of vehicles.
A knock on the door made Eunji jump and Starlight jump up hissing, “Shut up, Starlight,” Eunji muttered as she rubbed her temple and Starlight stopped hissing.
Eunji got out of her new Alaskan king size bed and headed to the door to open it up. She looked up as there was a high chance of it being someone taller than her and she was right as it was Eva.
“Mother wishes to talk to you, Eunji.” Eva said and Eunji glanced at her choice of sleep wear, which was only a dark blue oversized night shirt and nothing else. Eunji opened her mouth but stopped when Eva waved her hand and said, “This is private talk, no need to change your clothes.”
“Alright,” Eunji said and couldn't help but notice Eva had a gardening apron around her waist and she was holding a pair of gardening gloves in the other hand.
Eva turned on her heel and started to walk, stopping only to glance back and Eunji started to follow when Eva had glanced back. Eunji never could get read on Eva, neither scent or body language, and it made both Eunji and Starlight nervous.
They entered the white pillar elevator and Eva pressed the up third floor button. Eunji never pressed that button in the elevator and she remembered asking Rose about it. Rose told her it was to Eva’s private green house and not to go up there unless invited or emergency.
Eunji wanted to ask Eva questions, but she had a feeling it would be easier to get answers from a brick wall and Eunji was thankfully the elevator ride was short.
When the doors opened up, Eunji’s eyes locked on a large weeping willow tree, which was in the centre of the room and the leaves draped down close to the grass flooring. Around the edges of the glass dome were all sorts of bushes of flowers and other plants that she had never seen before.
“Eunji, over here,” Juno’s voice called out from the tree and Eunji glanced at Eva but she was already walking towards some rose bushes. Eunji walked towards the tree and carefully moved through the draped leaves that acted like curtains.
Eunji quickly spotted Juno sitting down in a wicker rocking chair in front of a white metal garden tea table and on the other side was a matching white metal chair. She got closer to see the wicker chair had white cushioning and Juno was sipping on tea from a tea cup.
Juno nodded to the chair and Eunji sat down on an empty chair across from Juno, “Tea?” Juno gestured to the tea set and Eunji shook her head. “You are not in trouble, my little fox.”
Eunji felt a weight off her shoulders she didn’t realize she had and looked to Juno, “What do you wish to talk about then?” Eunji asked and Juno nodded to the tablet on the table. While Juno put on her tea cup, Eunji picked up the tablet and turned it on.
The tablet’s light filled Eunji’s face for a second before her eyes adjusted to it and saw the mug shot of a young white man. He had stubble on his chin, snake tattoo on his neck and he had dim blue eyes. He looked a bit thin and his black hair was ungodly greasy and messy. Eunji’s gut twisted and didn’t understand why he looked so familiar.
“This is the bartender, Ethan Jones, that made your drinks from that night.” Juno said and Eunji’s attention snapped to Juno. “We couldn’t question him because your friend Keith killed and…ate some of him.”
Eunji felt a sickening feeling in her stomach from Juno’s words and saw Juno flick her finger. Eunji caught on to it, she swiped on the tablet and the tablet switched to banking information of Ethan Jones. She scanned the information and stopped to see the last name that put a few hundreds of dollars into the account, Johnny Brown.
Eunji’s mind raced as she turned pale and felt her whole body tremble, but she could tell if it was disgust or rage. She would figure out that later and she felt Juno ancient golden eyes on her. Eunji looked to Juno and could see her waiting for Eunji’s words.
“Johnny Brown…is my ex-boyfriend.” Eunji said with a shaky voice and covered her mouth, as she felt sick due to her memory flashed back to why Ethan looks familiar now. “Oh god…Ethan…he was Johnny’s friend…no…drug dealer…”
Eunji saw Juno raise her hand in stop motion and thought it was to her but then she felt a chill down her back and Starlight hissed to look behind her. She looked over her shoulder to see Eva’s silhouette through the tree leaves and her deep green eyes glowed through the leaves, looking at Eunji.
Eva’s silhouette stood there before moving back and the chill Eunji felt was gone. “We are still looking for Johnny,” Juno finally said and stood up from her chair. She gently played with Eunji’s bangs before leaning down to kiss the top of head. “Go back to bed and rest, let us do our job.”
Eunji felt a warm feeling flowing into her and Starlight happily yipped in the warmth. ‘Pack leader’s magic and love.’ was the only thing Starlight said before going quiet once more.
“Alright…” Eunji whispered and stood up. “Thank you for informing me.” Eunji made a small nod before walking out from the weeping willow and stopped half way to the tree.
She looked towards Eva and saw Eva tending to some yellow roses. Eunji wanted to say something but stopped herself and went back to her room.
Once in her bedroom Eunji went to the attached bathroom and stopped as she saw herself in the mirror, understanding Eva’s action now. The white of Eunji’s eyes had turned black and her ears were pointed. Eunji walked to the sink and started to splash cold water in her face.
She grabbed a towel and dried off her face before looking back to the mirror. Her eyes and ears returned to normal and sighed in relief. “Don't ever do that again, Starlight.” Eunji said to the mirror and noticed a Starlight appeared in the mirror, sitting on the counter beside her reflection.
‘Not us, all you.’ Starlight huffed and tail swishing. Eunji stared at Starlight before glancing to where she would be sitting but there was nothing there. ‘I am not lying.’
“I know…you can’t lie to me.” Eunji sighed and remembered one of the lessons Rose taught her. Her fox can’t lie to her and Eunji can’t fool her fox with lies, so it was best not to try.
Eunji stood up and looked to Starlight, “Let’s just go to sleep.” She finally said and Starlight snorted in agreement. Eunji returned to her bedroom and crawled back into bed. She closed her eyes once she was comfortable and felt like Starlight moved under her arm but knew she wasn’t really there.
‘Rest and be patient.’ Starlight whispered. ‘A good hunter is a patient one, our fangs will be wet with his blood soon enough.’ Eunji didn’t argue and felt like that was the right thing to do.
Come morning and after breakfast, Alina and Eunji were in the garage and Eunji was leaning on the bumper of Alina’s luxury black escalade. Aline tapped her foot and slightly snarled, “They're late.” She crossed her arms to stop herself from growling more.
A grey beat up car drove up to the garage and Alina raised a brow in seeing the car. It parked in one of the guest parking spots and a latina lady with wine hair got out of the driver seat.
“Sorry we’re late.” She said in a very mellow tone and stood about five feet and nine inches tall. Eunji could smell the cannabis coming off her and the white of her eyes were slightly pink. She was wearing black beanie, tight white tank top, black baggy sweat pants, and dark pink hoodie.
“I’m not guessing on traffic,” Eunji couldn’t help muttering and Alina smirked. The lady giggled as well and started to walk towards them in a very relaxed manner.
