Creak. Creak. Creak.

Silas’s ears twitched as the floorboards creaked above him, snapping him back into hunting mode, his mind pushing the memory off to the side. His head turned back sharply to look above him, his eyes following the sounds of creaks and heavy footsteps as they got closer towards the direction of the basement. Eventually the sound stopped right outside the basement door and Silas silently stepped into the darker shadows in the corner of the room. Under his eyepatch, his left eye dully throbbed in his socket as the darkness enveloped his body like a blanket, fully hiding any trace of his tall pale body from view. The door swung open, light from the hallway illuminating the top part of the dim stairs leaving the rest of the basement shrouded in shadows.  Silas watched as a dark silhouette appeared in the brightness but it went still.

“That is your last warning, boy. Next time, I won't ask.” Wallace’s cold voice drifted down the steps, muffled noises could be heard somewhere in the background.

Strangely enough, it almost sounded like someone was crying but it was hard for Silas to exactly hear and determine from his current position. Silas was under the impression his target lived alone, making it easier for the human to commit crimes against humanity without any chances of getting caught by family or a roommate.  He frowned when the door slammed shut, the sound echoing throughout the space and bringing the room into full darkness once again. Silas furrowed his brows, trying to recall any information about his target’s living situation as the slow footsteps began to travel down the stairs.

“My roommate is out of town tonight, so my place is available. I’m sure you would prefer a nice soft clean bed over a dirty bathroom, anyway?”

That bastard really did have a roommate, Silas cursed in his head, or at least someone else who happened to be in the home. Out of all the things Wallace was actually telling the truth about it had to be this? Who would've known or guessed? Back at the bar, Silas thought the human was lying, using the roommate card as an excuse to take him home. Despite the human’s aged appearance, he didn’t come across as being a married or family man. Either way, Silas thought bitterly, it was obvious there was someone else in the house other than Silas and Wallace and they certainly didn’t sound like a willing accomplice either going by the older human’s statement.

Silas mentally sighed, this job just kept throwing one thing after the other at him like the vampire was some zamn juggler at the circus. Whatever, Silas shook his head, he would deal with the other person in the house later.

The black haired male silently squatted down in the shadows, his gaze on his target’s moving form while his pale hand gropes around the floor until it bumps against something hard and cool. Without any hesitation, he swipes the object off the ground and grips it with both hands.
Just in time for his target to walk off the last step, stumbling a bit while doing so causing the man to grab onto the railing for balance.

“Stupid useless stairs.”

Mumbling under his breath, the older man turned to give the bottom step a swift kick, completely unaware of the presence right behind him. Before Wallace could blink, scream or utter another word- Silas firmly swung the tool in his hands. The crowbar cracked against the back of his head, making direct contact with the skull, immediately sending the other man straight down to the ground.

Silas threw the tool away without batting an eye, leaning over to examine his target to ensure the human was truly unconscious and not faking it. Wallace laid on his stomach, his head turned on the floor with his eyes closed with his limbs splayed out. He was dressed head to toe in an black, gloves, long sleeve shirt, pants, and shoes. Silas nudged his body with his foot, lightly shaking him but luckily his target was unresponsive. However a small clattering noise drew Silas’s attention to a small closed pocket knife that rested on the ground near his target’s hips. Oh must have fallen out of his pocket, Silas thought before bending down to smoothly swipe it off the ground.

Resting one bare foot on top of his unmoving target, Silas flipped the pocket knife open. Just as he thought, the blade was stained with blood but- Silas narrowed his eye at the short blade. The surface was covered with sticky fresh blood, none of that dried stuff he was surrounded by in the curtain room. Silas glanced at the closed door at the top of the stairs before going back to the target’s body under his foot.

“What an insufferable little human you are.” Silas mumbled under his breath while sweeping away his hair from his eyepatch.

He snatched it off, ignoring the sticky residue left behind on the skin around his left eye. Unlike the right side, there was no white part of his eye. Instead pure blackness surrounded his red iris. Immediately after being uncovered and exposed to the air, the dark slimy substance slowly began oozing out of his eye, between his lashes and dripping down his pale flesh. Ignoring the mess on his face and the intensifying throbbing of his eyeball, Silas dropped the pocket knife and the eyepatch. Without blinking, he brought his fingers up to his left eye. The tips of his fingers caressed the soft slippery surface before sinking straight into the tissue. With a soft grunt, Silas carefully but smoothly pulled out a small crystal, black liquid clinging to the tips of his fingers and gushing down his face during the process. It gets easier and easier to extract the fragment of his soul out of his eye with each mission, though he still wishes Father Antonio could have come up with a better way of accessing it.

Shaking his head at the thought with a sigh, Silas kicked the target’s body until the older human was lying on his back. With a flick of his wrist, Silas threw the crystal onto the man's chest. The glassy surface began cracking the moment it made contact with the body, crumbling and breaking apart to reveal a dark shadowy butterfly.

With the butterfly now out of the confines of its crystal cocoon, Silas squatted down to sit on top of his target’s stomach, ignoring the fact he was still only in his underwear. Taking a deep breath and relaxing his mind and body, Silas reached out a hand to the butterfly. He closed his eyes as his surroundings slowly began to disappear around him until there was nothing left.

As a "faithful" follower of the Soul Eater and Madame Justice, it is Brother Silas's duty to collect the souls of those who owe a debt to the church alongside his partner, Sister Celia. However, one day, he is assigned the task of completing a soul hunting mission by himself, needing to prove that he is capable of completing his duties without any assistance. It's just his luck that his target seems to have an unhealthy fascination with vampires....
