The next day…
“That adventure where Prince Darkness and Bright Bunny fought the Siren Giant was so awesome!” Rachel grinned, walking alongside Joel on their way to enter the high school campus.
“I know right?!” Joel agreed as he opened the door like a gentleman for Rachel.
Chitter chatter, there’s tons of students in the hallways. Some were walking to class, some were just talking to their friends, and one of them was just playing video games on his phone with headphones. Although it’s most likely not ideal to have headphones in school, some people just don’t care about rules that are petty.
Rachel and Joel stepped foot inside their classroom and sat down in assigned seats that are right next to each other. The teacher has already walked in before the others, including them, and stands in front of the chalk board. Writing on the board with white chalk, the lesson is about the French Revolution. In which the title of the lesson is literally on the board for all to see.
“Alright everyone, today we’re all gonna be learning…” The teacher’s slightly raspy voice soon faded away, blocked by Joel.
He slowly turned his head to glance at his best friend sitting next to him, focusing on whatever the teacher was saying. A small grin creeped up on himself, his pinkie of the left hand itching to hold onto hers, and his heart was starting to pressure him to buy that ring from the jewelry store. Even though his family isn’t quite the richest, but still! Leaves were blown away by the breeze while blue eyes remained on only Rachel, only her, and always her.
“HEY! Pay attention in class!”
BONK!
The teacher bonked Joel on the head with his history textbook, snapping him back to reality. The other students laughed it off because of how embarrassing that moment was.
“Sorry sir…” He muttered under his breath in response and blushed, a quiet tone of annoyance and embarrassment.
Ring, ring, ring!!
The two walked out of the classroom, heading to another and another classroom through different periods. Until it’s finally lunch time for all to feast on some slop, which is bland porridge. It’s the same thing, day after day.
They sat down at a table by themselves, no lunch set in front of them, and started talking about something that has caught their eyes recently.
“Have you heard of the dungeons and dragons thing that some guy was walking about? I heard there’s a club revolving around it.” Said Rachel.
“I have heard of it as well. A-and I really want to join that club, but I don’t know if you wanna go with me..” Joel stammered with a nervous smile.
Rachel chuckled, “of course, I wanna go with you and join the dungeons and dragons club together!”
Joel grinned happily, “that’s perfect! I’ll go find the leader of that club and let you know if it’s okay for us to be a part of it.” He then grabbed her hands into his and rubbed his thumbs on them, “at the end of the day, there will always be the two of us…”
“At the end of the day, there will always be the two of us!” Rachel beamed as she repeated those meaningful words.
Then all of a sudden, someone sat down at their table. Apparently, the table is for outcasts like Rachel and Joel, but they guess not. The person has a purple hoodie, black jeans, a pair of converse shoes, and a choker around their neck. She has black hair that looks like it’s well done with a comb.
“H-Hey guys… You don’t.. Mind if I sit here?” She said, hoping that they let her.
“Sure! By the way, me and my friend Joel were just talking about the dungeons and dragons club. We were just thinking about joining the club!” Rachel bubbled while Joel just remained… Quiet? Huh, that’s weird. He has never been THAT quiet when Rachel is talking to another outcast.
“Oh! I was also thinking about joining that club, but I’m afraid that others will laugh at someone like me… A-And I’m grateful to have someone who doesn’t mock me for once.” The other outcast quavered.
Joel chimed in, “Rachel, do you know her?”
“Kind of, but I never got to know her name though.” She replied.
“I’m… Sofia,” she added, “And I hope we can get along in the future! If.. That makes sense…”
Darting his eyes back and forth at Rachel and Sofia, silence was in the air when he laid his eyes on Sofia. Not with love or joy, but something worse than rage.
