SEE YOU MORNING

'SEE YOU MORNING' 003 The 51 Zone

'SEE YOU MORNING' 003 The 51 Zone

Oct 19, 2025

Li Haojun drove on the road, the sun getting higher and higher. Before he knew it, the surroundings became more and more bustling, with more residential buildings. However, the style was not like the previously artificial constructed row houses or detached buildings in rural areas, but modern industrial 3D printed houses. There were single-story houses with small courtyards, as well as two or three-story villas.

Some residents even made their houses into cartoon characters, with a community full of Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, Goofy, etc.

The 6th Motel was also designed to look like a pool table, with each room parked on a green lawn.

Feeling a bit hot inside the car, Li Haojun closed the windows and switched on the air conditioning. Suddenly, he remembered that this was an electric car and glanced at the fuel gauge.

"Does using the air conditioning affect the range?" Li Haojun asked.

"It's okay, you can think of it as a gasoline or diesel car running on fuel cells," Tan Wenjing answered from the back seat.

"Oh, my memory seems to have a blank in the middle. I remember some common knowledge, but it's from a long time ago. I don't know if I can keep up with this era," Li Haojun muttered to himself.

"Don't worry, maybe you'll remember, or you can learn again. You knew a lot before, so don't worry. Even if you can't recover your memories, I will help you get your life back on track," Tan Wenjing reassured him.

"Thank you," Li Haojun glanced at Tan Wenjing in the rearview mirror.

"Thank you for what?" Tan Wenjing hesitated.

"Just like before, you helped me adapt to my life," Li Haojun said.

As they drove, Li Haojun seemed to see something in the sky to the left through the windshield. He leaned forward and looked up carefully.

"Is that a flying car?"

"Yes, a flying taxi," Tan Wenjing answered playfully, lightening the somewhat heavy atmosphere earlier.

"Why don't we take it?"

"I'm excited!" Tan Wenjing said.

"Okay, can we take it?"

"Of course, we can call one. It's unmanned, but this time I prefer you driving me," Tan Wenjing said with a grin, looking at Li Haojun.

"Okay, it's all your arrangement," Li Haojun said.

"Yeah, you can get used to the life of the elderly in advance," Tan Wenjing joked.

Both of them laughed. But Li Haojun, looking at her in the rearview mirror, felt a mix of familiarity and strangeness. Is she really my companion? Is she? But I have no past with her, or I don't remember any past memories with her. Is she not? Yet she is patiently accompanying me. And it seems like I have nothing to offer her - she's young, beautiful, and financially independent, while I...

As they drove, more and more flying cars appeared in the sky from different directions, following the same route parallel to the road. Passing a road sign ahead, "Spokane, comma, District 51, 10 miles ahead."

"District 51? Isn't District 51 in the Nevada desert?" Li Haojun was confused.

"Nowadays, many counties across the country have District 51, just named that, not the military exclusion zone. Most of these District 51 are communities voluntarily living together, consisting of genetically modified, bio-enhanced, or AI robots. But there are official ones used for interstellar cultural exchanges, and the one we're going to is one of them."

"Haha, this is exciting, are there aliens?" Li Haojun asked.

"Not necessarily."

"Why are we exchanging data here?"

"Because there's no CIA, FBI, etc. here. This is where the interstellar alliance enforces the law."

"Oh my."

"Just my guess, it's probably more of a company practice," Tan Wenjing added.

As they approached, the landing site for flying cars was by the roadside. Li Haojun had to slow down and merge with the traffic when the cars landed one by one on their tires and joined the road.

He was curious about the passengers in those flying cars - some with privacy curtains, or UV-resistant windows. There were tourists looking out, families, young people, businessmen, etc. Of course, there were kids waving from the windows, but there were no pets in sight.

"I thought we would see octopuses, lizard people, etc.," Li Haojun joked.

"Not that exaggerated. Look, there's a Starbucks coffee shop on the right, and after that, there's the 'Chanson Pavilion' tavern. You can park in front," Tan Wenjing directed.

Seeing the familiar green Starbucks goddess ahead, Li Haojun parked the car and both of them got out. They walked towards the tavern, with Tan Wenjing holding his left hand. She smiled happily as she looked up at
After exchanging greetings, Tan Wenjing had already sat on a high stool near John, followed by Li Haojun sitting beside Tan Wenjing.

"Brandy, my treat. Sorry for keeping you waiting today," Tan Wenjing said as she reached into John's arms and pulled out a stainless steel flask.

"Is everything going smoothly over there?" she asked.

"Yeah, same old. Those country bumpkins are even lazier than me, always losing things," John replied.

As the drinks arrived, Tan Wenjing filled John's flask and returned it. Leaving only a bit left, she handed it to Li Haojun.

"You still have to drive back, so you can only have this much," she said.

Pouring the remaining bit into an empty glass, she handed it to John.

"Cheers!"

Li Haojun, not familiar with the other person, raised his glass politely but didn't say anything. After a while of chatting, they decided to go somewhere else for lunch. Li Haojun opened the door for Tan Wenjing and glanced in another direction, where two men were walking towards the bar. One was tall and thin with sharp features, resembling the mythical Thunder God with large round eyes, the other was muscular with a long face and white lips, wearing a round belt that matched his pants.

Realizing he had been staring at them for too long, Li Haojun quickly forced a smile and nodded, noticing Tan Wenjing was leaving.

The man with the long face hurried over and greeted Tan Wenjing, but as he was speaking, his belt suddenly broke and fell down, causing laughter from John, who hadn't actually left but was standing at the street corner watching.

Li Haojun smiled awkwardly, hugged Tan Wenjing's waist, and quickly left, while Tan Wenjing just smiled and didn't say anything.

In the midday sun, with the shadows of the green trees tracing patterns on the ground, John and Tan Wenjing walked ahead, engaged in conversation. Li Haojun followed not too far behind, unable to hear what they were saying and not wanting to intrude as a stranger.

As the two ahead entered a roadside shop, Tan Wenjing looked back and waved for Li Haojun to catch up. It was a barbecue shop with genetically engineered beef and lamb, allowing customers to choose various types. John sat facing the two and asked Tan Wenjing, "Is your little friend doing well?" glancing at Li Haojun.

"Don't worry, I'm fine. Thank you," Li Haojun replied casually.

"He's still the same," John said to Tan Wenjing.

"I'll take care of him," Tan Wenjing said, turning to look at Li Haojun, who didn't meet her gaze, although he knew she was looking at him.

Their conversation ended as the food arrived, and John secretly took out a bottle of wine, eagerly eating and drinking. There were no more words exchanged after that.

After lunch, they bid farewell and as John rode off on his Harley, waving back at them before disappearing into the distance.

"Now what do we do?" John's gone, and Li Haojun finally spoke up.

"Are you jealous?" Tan Wenjing asked, holding Li Haojun's hands.

"No," he replied coldly.

"I and John just have a working relationship. He saved me once, and he's an operative from Montana," Tan Wenjing explained.

"Is he a spy?"

"Somewhat, he cares about you?"

"Perhaps, but, I'm okay now," Li Haojun said.

Tan Wenjing smiled sadly before turning and slowly walking down the street. Li Haojun realized his behavior wasn't quite right and chose to not say anything, silently holding Tan Wenjing's hand as they walked.

Being naturally alert, Li Haojun was always watchful of his surroundings, but perhaps he was overreacting. Most of the people he observed seemed normal and well-dressed, with no aliens in sight.

Suddenly, Tan Wenjing grabbed his hand and suggested they go see an opera. They arrived at a nearby theater, where they could hear the singing from the lobby. Tan Wenjing, instead of heading inside, went to the dressing room and came out in a beautiful evening gown.

In a purple off-shoulder fishtail dress with light green edges, her hair styled in a twisted braid, Tan Wenjing looked stunning. Li Haojun embraced her as they walked in, holding her waist and resting his hand on her shoulder, pulling her close.

Without saying a word, Tan Wenjing placed her hands on his chest and rested her face on his shoulder as they found a corner to sit in the performance hall. The stage was simple, with only vocal performances and dim lights casting a mysterious atmosphere, captivating the sparse audience and delving into the depths of lonely souls.

The enchanting melody seemed to slow down time and embrace the romantic moment.

As they left the theater and stepped onto the street, Li Haojun draped his coat over Tan Wenjing, taking in the cool night air. Embracing
