The Forgotten Memory

The Forgotten Memory

The Forgotten Memory

Oct 25, 2025

Suddently, the two last remaining generals appeared right behind him.

Astaroth in his true form, the Ruler of Gravity, and right behind him...was the Ruler of Flame himself. He was unnamed in all the documents that Clive had found about them.

The Ruler of Flame did not waste a second and lunged directly at Clive, which was the dumbest shit he could have ever done.

Clive easily sidestepped him before swinging his reformed blade in a flash of light before sheathing it again. The Ruler of Flames turned around to look back at Astaroth before he was diced up by Clive's attack.

Astaroth let out a small chuckle at how strong Clive had become since their last battle.

Clive glanced at Astaroth, letting out a chuckle too, before they both unleashed their Dargelionnas at the same time. Their wills were clashing, but instead of fighting against each other, Clive decided to ask a question to Astaroth. He needed answers about everything.

''What the hell did you show to Catherina back then to make her turn out like this? What is this truth she kept mentioning?''

Astaroth chuckled; after all the destruction he had caused, Clive only wished to talk? ...Very well.

''I showed her what the people of the Ring Continent did to the infected when the Battle of the Star happened.''

Clive tilted his head, motioning him to keep going; he wanted to understand.

''When the stars hit and infected the people of Marai Island, the outside world shut us out and forced us into camps. Many of us died before we signed a contract to let us live on Marai Island and not cause trouble to the outside world. Your sister, my queen, merely wishes to avenge her fallen infected and show the world that the infected are not as weak as they think.''

Clive was shocked by the revelation. He had been protecting and fighting for humans this last year while they had been the reason... Astaroth took advantage of the fact Clive was shocked to send a hard blow against his jaw to weaken his will and force his Dargelionna to land.

Just like the last time, Clive was somewhere different due to the fact he had been caught in his Dargelionna. Looking down, he had a bottle of rum in his hand; there were multiple empty bottles on the ground. Was this another weird hallucination caused by Astaroth's power...or was this a memory?

Clive stood up and walked up to the front door of his room. He was back in the HQ? Hm... This felt too real to be a hallucination...was he reliving the night he proposed to Sylvia? Why would Astaroth want him to see this? Clive stumbled down the hall right to Sylvia's door, which he knocked on.

Sylvia opened it gently to look at him, asking him what he wanted. Clive let out a drunk chuckle. His Waver was clearly turned off. He then proceeded to propose to her by taking out a small ring box.

However...she said no. This confused Clive... weren't they husband and wife? Clive stumbled into Sylvia's room despite her protest.

Sylvia went to push Clive right out the main door, but Clive pushed her back, making her stumble and hit her head on the coat hanger.

Clive froze as he relived his memories. It didn't happen like this... Catherina was the one who had killed her...this didn't make ANY sense!

Clive then dismembered the body and threw it into the nearby woods for the animals to feed on. Clive couldn't believe what he was seeing... Did he really do this...? Was his revenge misaimed this whole time...was he truly the one who had killed his wife...she wasn't even his wife... But...why couldn't he remember this happening...?

Astaroth appeared next to him and spoke in a soft, menacing voice.

You used your Waver to rewrite the memory.

Clive froze. Not only was his whole life a lie. Not only was he the reason Sylvia was dead...but instead of facing the consequences...he decided to change how he remembered the event... He was a coward...but how the hell does Astaroth even know all of this...why are his powers so similar to his...they even look the same....

Astaroth smiled and spoke in a soft voice.

I am what happens when the body of a dead god melts after failing to accomplish its role.

I am you.

What the hell was he saying... it didn't matter... none of it mattered anymore... Clive just wanted to finish this damn bullshit now. He just had to kill Astaroth and Catherina, and everything would go back to normal.

Clive grabbed onto Astaroth and used his Waver to get the current location of Catherina out of him forcefully before crushing his neck, killing him.

But Astaroth died with a smile.

He let out a small whisper as he died

You did the same as me when my Astaroth said that to me...

Clive sighed and walked away from Astaroth's body and walked straight toward Catherina's location. The closer he got, the more he realized what this place was. It came full fucking circle... Everything seemed to lately. Catherina was located at their childhood town, which had been destroyed by now.

Walking closer, Catherina took a single glance at him before letting out a dry chuckle. "You do realize that everything you have done until now has only helped my plan, hm?"

Clive sighed as he sat down on a rock. "So what...?" "You killed my lover well... That's what I kept telling myself until Astaroth proved me wrong...who cares anyways...I just want to look good for once...and I'll have to take you out, Sister."

Is that so? She said with a soft tsk.

Clive dashed toward Catherina and sent a punch right at her, which was blocked by her. But due to both of them having timelike abilities. Something strange happened the moment they touched. They were thrown right into the timeline. Future, present, or past? None of them knew.

All of a sudden they were crashing through the sky toward a small island. Clive did not waste a second and used his repulsion to launch himself at Catherina, grabbing her before using his repulsion again to launch them both directly at the ground, which caused a huge crater in the island.

Clive stood up, glaring down at the bloody body of his sister; glancing around the crater made him freeze as he realized where he was. This was the same crater where he had found the body of the old god? But the body was not there anymore? Using his surprise to her advantage, Catherina grabbed his arm to remove his powers using the red gem. She then threw him against the wall of the crater before slamming his head multiple times against it.

Letting go of him, she crouched down and spat on him for not letting her reach her goals.

All of a sudden, Clive lunged up at the red gem at her neck, ripping it off her necklace and punching her with it. Which sent her flying toward another timeline. Hopefully she had died.

Clive collapsed to the floor as he clutched the red gem in his hand as he was dying from the wounds inflicted in this short battle.

Clive...was the god from the battle of the star that Sylvia talked about. They were his last thoughts before everything went black.

Clive opened his eyes for a last time... Time around him seemed different...his own flesh felt different...as if his body had been melted back together... He walked down the streets of the new city he was in... He did not recognize it... But there was one thing he recognized...Catherina was standing before him... She did not seem afraid...she was as bloody as from their battle. Catherina spoke gently before collapsing on the ground as she looked at the red gem.

Astaroth, is that you?

At that single moment, she understood everything. Astaroth was Clive. She had failed. But...Astaroth before her held the key to a next try at her plan... She gestured to the red gem and spoke once more.

"Go back in time...obey my old me...force her to see the truth of all of this...give her the gem and maybe, just maybe, I won't have died for nothing."

Those were her last words.

The rest, you know how it happened.
