The girl and The rock

6. The Instructor (part one)

6. The Instructor (part one)

Oct 27, 2025

A few days had passed since Palma's visit to the Chief's tent. But she hadn't seen her mother since that day.
All that time, Palma was waiting for her mother to call on her. But she never did.

All Palma could do was wait in her tent. At this point, she couldn't help but feel anxious.

"Palma? Do you not want to play with your toys?" Said Yona, Palma's nanny, looking at her with worry.

Yona had been looking after Palma since she was born, so she treated her like she was her own.

Palma turned away from her and said nothing. She couldn't describe the uneasiness she felt deep inside.

Yona got up with the box of toys and left the tent with a concerned look on her face.

Palma got up from her chair and walked over to her little bed nest and layed down. In her nest, she had a lot of hand-made dolls that the villagers gifted her. But her favourite was a brown bunny ragged doll that Yona had made for her before she was born. Though it was old looking, it had a warm flowery scent that calmed her when she hugged it.

Palma picked up the brown bunny she called "Emy" and snuggled her head into its soft little belly. As she lay down, she remembered the stern expression her mother had when they left the Chief's tent.

"Does mother hate me?" Palma thought, her eyes started tearing up. She didn't want to be hated by anyone.

"Palma." Said a deep, soft voice. The voice was coming from behind the curtains.

Alarmed, Palma got up quickly and froze. She was hesitant to open the curtain because she didn't know the owner of the voice.

"What if they're a bad person?" Palma thought, while squeezing Emy tightly. She was still traumatised from what happened with the other kids.

"Palma." Said the voice for a second time. But this time, the voice sounded clearer than before.

"I recognise this voice." Palma thought. Palma quickly opened the curtain. Swish. Her father(Graham) was standing behind the curtain.

Graham had thin short blone hair and deep green eyes. When he saw Palma, he smiled brightly and giggled.

"Father!" Palma shouted, with a joyous smile.

Graham ruffled Palma's thick brown hair and lifted her up into his arms.

"Have you been well, Palma?" Graham asked her with a smile.

"Yes!" Palma replied happily. But then she remembered her mother and her face turned soar.

"Huh? What's wrong, Palma?" Graham asked, startled by the sudden change in her expression.

"Hm... But mother hasn't come to see me in a while." Palma said, her face looked disappointed.

Graham flinched. Flustered that Palma mentioned her mother, he looked away cautiously.

"Uh-oh... What am I supposed to say?" Graham thought.

He knew that Nepella was upset with what Palma had said to the Chief. But he didn't want her to think that her mother hated her.

"D...Don't worry, Palma. Your mother dosen't h...hate you at all." Graham said stuttering nervously.

Palma looked at her father with sad puppy eyes.

"Really?" Palma whimpered.

Feeling guilty, Graham tried his best to avoid eye contact with his daughter.

"Uh-huh..." Graham said, finally giving up.

"C...Come, Palma! Let us be on our way!" Graham shouted, laughing awkardly.

"To where?!" Palma thought, startled. She wasn't sure where her father was taking her.

Palma clenched her fists and buried her head in her father's shoulder. She had an unusual feeling.

On a sledge, Graham took Palma to a place not far from the village towards a mountain called "Ciel."
A small Blue tent stood in the middle of the snowy mountain, and a black wooden old sledge was parked next to it.

Edelweiss Village was surrounded by rocks and mountains, which made it difficult for people to visit and leave the village. So the person in the tent must have been strong enough to climb the mountain.

"I wonder who it is?" Palma thought with curiosity.

When they entered the tent, there was a man with a stern looking face and a sword hanging from his waist. He had grey hair that was smoothed back, a neat shaved beard and misty, grey eye's that glistened in the light.

"Who is this man?" Palma thought.

A table and two chairs on either side stood in the middle of the tent.

Graham sat Palma on the chair closer to the entrance and kneeled down next to her.

"Palma, this is your instrutor." Graham said, "His name is Fritts Wellesbourne. He is a skilled hunter."

Palma looked up at the man named Fritts.

"Hunter? What's a hunter?" Palma thought.

Fritts looked at Palma and smiled. Startled, Palma quickly looked away and clenched on her father's garment.

Graham patted Palma's head with a smile and stood up.

"I'll leave the rest to you, Fritts." Graham said, while leaving the tent.

"Wait... your leaving?!" Palma thought with a panic. "No!! Don't leave me behind with this scary man you call a hunter!!"

"Father!?"
