“I need to ask for your permission, Chulee. Today, I’m requesting to borrow the employee named Gunny for an urgent matter,” said Kawin, dressed in an elegant white collared shirt topped with a modern brown suit, perfectly paired with black slacks and finished with gleaming leather shoes. This attire gave him the sophisticated and charming look of a new-generation businessman.
He stood talking to Chulee, the Chief Accountant, who was blocking the entrance. Gunny strained her ears, listening to the conversation proceeding smoothly.
“What kind of matter, may I ask?” Chulee inquired, guarding her subordinate with a composed manner.
Kawin smiled slightly. “It is an important matter concerning the company.”
“May I go instead? If it’s a big matter, Gunny is still new. I worry she won't be able to perform to your satisfaction,” Chulee quickly countered, showcasing the sharp wit expected of a department head.
The CEO smiled broadly, slipping his hands into his trouser pockets with a calm demeanor. “I have full confidence in this particular subordinate of yours. But out of courtesy, I had to come and ask for the head of the department's permission first.” He firmly reiterated his request, ignoring her counter-argument.
Chulee nodded in acceptance. “If it is the wish of the Executive, I cannot refuse.”
“Thank you,” the CEO said, bowing his head as a sign of respect to his conversational partner.
Nuchara, who was secretly listening nearby, was surprised that the new executive specifically requested Gunny.
Chulee opened the door and entered the department, coming face-to-face with Gunny, who was looking on in confusion.
“Gunny, come here for a moment.”
“Yes, boss” Gunny said, walking straight to the large Chief Accountant who was waiting.
“CEO Kawin is asking for you to help him with some work. Try not to make any mistakes.”
“What kind of work is it?” Gunny quickly asked.
Chulee replied with a flat expression, occasionally glancing behind her. “Company work... Just take good care of yourself,” Chulee emphasized in a low voice.
Gunny nodded in acknowledgment. She knew her boss’s final words were out of genuine concern. Chulee was considered the least selfish boss in the department; although she was very strict with rules, she was ready to protect her subordinates by any means necessary if anyone tried to take advantage of them.
“Yes,” Gunny nodded. Chulee blinked rapidly and glanced outside once more.
“You can go now. CEO Kawin is waiting.”
Gunny nodded and walked around Chulee, passing Nuchara who was practically rushing toward the Chief Accountant.
“Nuchara,” Chulee called out, beckoning her closer.
“Yes, boss?” Nuchara hurried to stop in front of the department head, who was waiting.
“Since Gunny has to go out on an assignment with CEO Kawin, I need you to take over the asset depreciation report for her. I need it done before tomorrow.” Chulee seized the opportunity to assign work to her other subordinate.
Nuchara's eyes widened. “But why did CEO Kawin choose Gunny?”
“That is none of your business. Just do your own work,” Chulee cut her off.
Nuchara stared blankly at her.
“But I have to do Gunny’s work? That’s not my job! I already have so much work,” she grumbled immediately.
Chulee looked back with a fierce gaze. “Do you know that what you just said is completely inappropriate coming from someone who wants to advance their career?” the Chief Accountant roared back.
Nuchara's face shrank with embarrassment, and she immediately bowed her head.
“If you want to advance, what you should be saying is, ‘I will do it right away, boss’ Not making excuses that you have too much work. Hearing that makes me think you are not professional enough yet.”
The words were like several sharp slaps to her face. Nuchara breathed heavily, suppressing the anger boiling inside, but she could only nod her unconditional acceptance.
“Yes, boss. I will do it right now.”
