Somewhere in the spring, Joel and Rachel hold onto their whimsy imagination as they walk down the school’s hallways with their project where they’re supposed to present a blood cell. Good thing they’re careful with it.
Upon their sight, they spotted the popular girl, otherwise known as Rebecca by the entire school. There she is by the girls bathroom, putting on some bubblegum lip gloss to be impressive… and pretty, of course. Her blue eyes darted to them, the childish outcasts.
Rebecca scoffed, “oh look who it is, the dumb Joel and Rachel!” She said in such a sassy manner as her pink shoes click clack on the floor, walking up to them and eyeing their science project up and down for a second.
“Oh sorry, my friend and I are in no mood for your little games.” Rachel replied, her eyebrows furrowed at her presence. Joel, on the other hand, just glared at Rebecca with a grumpy frown. His fists were clenched tightly, almost as if he's resisting the sudden urge to do something so quick that somebody would bat an eye.
“Sure, but you’re so fun to pick on~! I hope my boyfriend beats up your nerdy friend by the time he’s at the gym.”
“Hey! Just because I wear glasses, doesn’t mean I’m the sharpest tool in the shed-” Joel snapped, voice raised to scare Rebecca.
Obviously, it is surprising of Joel to finally stick up for himself instead of relying on Rachel.
Rebecca scoffed again, “whatever! At least I have perfect eye sight.”
She walked away and got out of their sight. Rachel is shocked that Joel took the chance to raise his voice for self defense, “Woah! You.. You actually stood up for yourself like I told you before!”
“Yeah… You know, I couldn’t stand that… Well, not sure if I’m allowed to say it.” Said Joel
“Oh come on, just say the word!”
“Okay fine, ‘I couldn’t stand that bitch.’ Happy now?” He smirked.
“Yep!” Rachel responded brightly with satisfaction.
At science class, they waited for their turn before a duo of their classmates finished presenting the nitrogen cycle to the class. Once the classmates stopped clapping their hands for a round of applause, Rachel and Joel were next to present the blood cell.
After their turn, they sat back down and another duo of students came to present the photosynthesis. Turn after turn, science class is finally over, and Rachel and Joel did a good job working together and got an A plus!
Period after period, it’s finally lunch time! So far, nothing much has happened… Yet. But Joel has an idea to spice up the adventures again.
“Hey Rachel, what if.. Prince Darkness marries Bright Bunny? Wouldn’t it.. You know.. Be romantic and make sense since they’re so close to each other?” Said Joel, tapping his index finger on the cafeteria table as he looked away for a split second.
“Pfft, nah! Just because they’re best friends like us, doesn’t mean they have to go THAT far. You always come up with the craziest ideas!” Rachel stated with a chuckle.
“No seriously, we should add at least some romance between them. You want to spice things up… Don’t.. You..?” He stared at her blankly, dead in the eyes that were so suddenly cold.
Rachel felt uneasy but brushed his blank stare away like it was nothing less than nothing, “I’ll think about it later. Right now, we have to deal with school..”
She says as she scratches the back of her neck.
Joel leans closer to her face, “Why not now? Instead of later, how about you think about romance now?” He wasn’t smiling or anything like that, he’s looking at her dead in the eyes with an upside down smile.
Rachel feels uneasy again, yet finds it hard to just casually brush it off. She can smell his heavy breathing, somewhat frightened by him. Even though he’s a friend of hers, there’s suddenly something really off about him.
“That’s a good idea..? How about after school, you make Prince Darkness the husband while I make Bright Bunny the most beautiful wife he ever had?” She nervously smiled.
Joel smiled back, all happy-go-lucky within seconds, “that’s wonderful! I can’t wait to play with you again.”
“I can’t wait to play with you as well!”
Huh.. That’s weird, Sofia isn’t here again. She thought to herself.
