By all rights, this should be the very first chapter in any text on energy, different realms, and situations where one will come into contact with energies abnormal to one's own.
What Exactly Is Shielding
Energy can take shape through exposure or application of one's thoughts. This thought-form, is the basis for many forms of energy work... assuming certain things remain true: linear time progression, presence of compatible energies, lack of any countering energies, and strong energy flows. When you attempt to probe something, you extend some of this energy along with your intent. This is then used to pick up sensations or feelings.
Let's say you don't want such a probe to reach you. The easiest would be to create a simple shield of energy. This is like creating an eggshell around you. It can block many things depending on the density and quantity of energy as well as the clarity and complexity of the thought. What this does is give the probe something to "discover" though some are able to probe past shields. Or more accurately, layers. Ideally a shield should be multiple layers in thickness. This both improves the durability and increases the potential functionality of said shield.
Attacks, probes, invasions, etc. are all different combinations of energy and intent. Having a sufficiently fortified and flexible intention can and will produce a resilient shield.
Will It Work On Abyssal Energies?
Yes... and no. What you would have for protection would be a simulcrum... or a duplicate of yourself. You would use the energies to form a copy of yourself and have that copy perform the analysis and contact. Making sure that there are actions you can take to sever ties with the simulcrum and yourself. In this manner, the contamination can be contained within the simulcrum and that can be disposed of. I like it to having a shield which is then hit with corrosive liquids and needs to be thrown aside.
Because Abyssal energies are corrosive to us, no matter how good your shield, you need to continually recast and shape the spell to counter the next attack.
