BEEP-
BEEP-
BEEP-
BEEP-
Monique's alarm clock went off instantly, waking her up, rising and shining her for another “beautiful” day (except not really). She felt a sense of comfort being in a warm bed, almost making her forget about the misfortunes of adulthood. But there’s this thing about staying put, the world will just keep moving without you. And Monique knew this.
“nngghh…”
She pathetically mumbled as she rolled off the side of her bed, hitting the floor. The floor was cold and hollow—like her soul. But that freezing sensation was enough to fully wake her and make her realise that if she kept this depressing listlessness up, she’d be late for work.
Remembering she still had bills to pay, she moved to the washroom to get ready for the day.
After the clean-up session, Monique started her coffee machine and poured herself a cup. As she walked to her apartment patio, the steam of the coffee mug followed her as she did so.
Monique currently lives in a 5-story apartment building, and she just so happened to live on the fifth floor.
"Ahh—The view sure is nice...” She muttered to herself.
If someone were to fall from that height, they’d surely break every bone in their body….
“I-I should probably change... I’ll be late…”
She pondered for a second before being entirely sure. She took a tired sip of her coffee, then took a step closer to the patio, and—with a sigh of relief….
She proceeded to immediately jump to her doom.
Falling from the fifth floor of her apartment complex was faster than she’d thought it would be. But eventually…
THUD.
The fall, surprisingly, wasn’t enough to destroy her entire form, but it was enough to break most of the bones in her body. Monique was twisted in all sorts of directions. Blood pooled from her now cracked skull onto the pavement.
Maybe this time she can finally-
Just as that sweet thought entered her mind, the main door of the apartment opened, and Monique's neighbor came out. She must have just woken up because, just like Monique, the older woman was also still in her pajamas.
“Monique? Hun, what are you doin’ on the ground in the middle of the street????”
But shockingly, the neighbor wasn’t greeted with the grotesque display; instead, she found Monique alive and well with no bones broken in sight. But naturally, it was strange for a person to be lying on the street in nothing but their pajamas, so obviously, she needed an excuse.
“UOh-Uh... Good morning! I was just sunbathing—Yeah...”
The excuse was beyond terrible, but what was worse was that Monique might have completely healed her body, but the blood that remained stayed intact. Which had unfortunate implications…
“M-Monique…”
The neighbor gave a look of pity.
“You-oh-you stay there…I’ll- go get you somethin’ inside...”
“W-WAIT IT’S NOT WHAT YOU THI- “
“-D-DON’T worry, Hun, I’ll be fast!”
And just like that, the lady went back into the apartment with the completely wrong idea. Monique cupped her face in her hands, writhing in anguish. She flopped onto the sidewalk as she seethed.
For those who are still unaware of the obvious, Monique Strauss cannot die. How did her body become this way? She has no idea. But it makes her wish for a death that is far from her grasp….
