I woke up to knocking at my door. “Alexis, open up!” I heard my sister screaming. Haft awake I rolled over looked at my phone to see the time. 10:00am. The wedding was at noon.
I got up and crawled to the edge of the bed.
“Hold on.” I yelled.
I noticed Mathew’s underwear were still on the bed. He didn’t grab them last night when he went to sleep. “Mathew”, I shaked him awake. “Put on your underwear, my sisters are here.” I threw it up at him. They landed on his face. He finally responded.
“Hmm?” He muttered.
“My sisters are coming in get dressed.” I grabbed some shorts from our suit cases and threw them on the bed. I put on a shirt and some sweatpants.
I walked to open the door and Mathew slide on his underwear and shorts and went back to sleep.
“Hey,” I hugged both of them as they entered the doorway. They were now teenagers in high school. Before we would fight because they were annoying little kids. Now we fight over other things, but I still annoy them the same way I did when they were younger. “How are you guys? You’re still not ready yet?” I asked. They had their make up done but weren’t in dresses.
“We just need to do our hair. Mama is getting her hair done by Nina’s hairstylist right now.” Nina had helped with getting the bride and Marco's family makeup and hair stylist. She should be getting here after the ceremony. “We just have to do her make up and get our hair done.
They walked in and sat on the bed. I took our tuxedos from the bags we had brought and hung them on the rack. I walked over and jumped in bed. “Why isn’t he up?” They shoved at Mathew’s legs.
“He’s a heavy sleeper.”
They shake him a bit more laughing before he gets up and throws them towards the middle of the bed. “You think you’re funny?” He smiled at them pretending to try and grab them again.
“Mathew, their make-up.” I told him. Mathew looked at them thinking he might have messed it up.
“Oh I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine,” they looked at each other, making sure and laughing.
“Okay now get out. We have to get ready.” I told them.
Mathew rolled his eyes making fun of me always being the party pooper when they mess around. Mathew was an only child so he treated them like his sisters now. “No more eye candy.” I told them.
Mathew was shirtless standing on the side of the bed. “Ew, he’s like our brother now.” They told me.
“Sure,” I teased them on their early childhood crush. They said bye and got out of our room.
We missed breakfast because we woke up late. I brushed my teeth to go to my parents room to check up on them. I told Mathew not to sleep as I saw him crawl back in bed. All he had to do was shower, shave and get dressed but we still would need to be ready before noon. When I got there she was getting ready and my dad had gone to the bar with Marco’s uncles because he was already done. The guests not involved in the wedding should be arriving in an hour or so. I headed back to my room and Mathew had finished steaming the tux’s. I heard the shower just start when I entered. I walked to the bathroom where he was setting up his stuff to shave his face after he showered. He’s been rocking a goatee for a year now. He never really has a clean shaved face for about 4 years now. He started growing out his beard more in college. He switches it up often and shaves for special occasions or cleans it up. I still think he looks hot with all of them. You just see his beautiful face more without the beard.
His goatee connects all around his chin part at the end darkening into a light brown compared to the rest being blonde. Compared to years ago he just looks older and even more handsome. He now lets his chest hair grow out with a mix of blonde and brown hair that he keeps trimmed. It darkens by his happy trail the more it goes down. We got hair cuts before coming. He has a classy clean look with side part. “Hey babe, you ready to shower?” He asked. I nod and start to undress and get in. As we clean up I can already see that devilish smile he gets when he gets excited. He leans down and kisses me. “You want to have sex before we go?”
I have to think straight and reject the offer. We wouldn’t make it or we would but we should risk it. “No,” I smile, “come on we have to get ready.” He hugs me and rubs my back.
“We’re definitely using that tonight.” He motioned to the huge tub that was in here on the side of the shower. I kissed him again longer and more passionately. Feeling the water and the hair on his face touch mine: his arm holding me tight on his body before we finish up and get out.
He starts to shave and I get all our socks and shoes out for us. I come back to the bathroom and do my hair while he is finished trimming his goatee. I put on lotion really quick before doing my hair. He starts to shave while I watch him in the mirror. We make eye contact here and there while I use the blow dryer. The excitement has never left after all these years. He’s still naked with me in the bathroom. He’s so tempting. The face he makes looking to make sure he didn’t miss a spot.
“Can you do my hair too?” I nod and he cleans up the sink.
“You have to crouch down.” I tell him.
“Just sit on the sink.” He lifts me up and puts me on it but it only lifts me about a inches higher than I normally stand. He leans down while I do his hair. I blow dry it after I put product in it to keep it in place. He stares at my face and lips the whole time kissing me when I finish. “God I love you.” Giving me baby kisses over and over again.
We get dressed and I text my family that I’ll see them at the ceremony.
Mathew tied my bow tie. His dad had taught him while growing up. His parents weren’t going to be here. It was only closer family friends like my parents that had come from the friend group. Tori wouldn’t be able to make it either because her boyfriend had an accident and was in another state.
“Should we go together or do you need to do anything else?” Mathew asked sitting on the bed tying his shoes.
“If you want you can start heading down. I just need to find my gum and take the rings.” I tell him looking through my backpack.
“I’ll wait for you.”
Once I find it we leave the room. We start heading down and Mathew holds my hand as we walk down the hall to Marco’s room. It’s 11:20 by now and the groomsmen are starting to pile in. We are heading down at 11:45 to start getting ready. We say hello to some of the guys and head towards Marco. I can tell he’s really nervous. He asked if I had the rings and showed him.
“How did you tie your bow tie? Can you do mine?” Troy asked me.
“Ask Mathew he did mine.” Mathew was standing right behind us talking to the guys and turned around when he heard his name. Troy motioned the Bow tie and Mathew started tying it while continuing his conversation.
I stood by over here for a few minutes just listening in to the multiple conversations going on. Marco looked so nervous it was rubbing off on me.
“Hey it’s good seeing you how have you been?”A guy came up to me. At first I didn’t recognize him but it was Jace. “I saw you guys yesterday when you walked in but I don’t think you saw me.”
“Oh yeah, I thought I recognized some people but was to busy looking for Marco.” I told him. He also had a full on beard, trimmed but yeah I wouldn’t recognize him. “I’ve been good.”
“Yeah, I was catching up with Mathew right now. Chris just got here. He was there last night too but was in the bathroom when you guys got here.”
“Oh I haven’t seen him yet.” I started looking around and saw him.” He had a very clean trimmed beard with curly brown hair now.
“We should probably head down.” One of Marcos' cousins told us. We started heading out the room all going to the one door of the room Marco got ready in. This wasn’t his room just the room he stayed in for the night even though he technically already saw the bride at last night. Mathew put me in front of him to not lose me in the commotion.
They teased him about being nervous. I hung back still more quite around crowds till this day. Mathew was right next to Marco in the spot light like always with Troy and the others. Some of the other groomsmen were walking behind me. When we got closer I saw Mathew started looking for me again and came to me when he saw me. He held my hand and we walked till we got by the chapel. The time was going really fast as people arriving started filling up the place. When we got there it was already halfway full. I saw my family already sitting down. I fixed Mathew’s bow tie before it started. He gave me a quick peck.
The bridesmaids got here and started heading in with us to join Marco at the altar. I didn’t know any of them other than the few friends I had met when visiting Marco and Carol. The ceremony was a catholic one because both their families were but they mainly did it for the parents. They weren’t really religious. After I handed off the rings and they said their vows. During the ceremony all I thought about after the vows was how this would look with Mathew. I would sometimes break away and look at the crowd. I couldn’t see Mathew because he was standing behind Troy but would notice people pointing and looking at him, Troy or me. When it was done we all walked out the chapel.
The guest started exiting, heading to the event area where the party would be at. Some stayed to watch the pictures being taken in the chapel. All of us in the party or close family went back inside to take pictures with the bride and groom. When it wasn’t our turn we stood off to the side talking amongst ourselves. Mathew was with Troy, Mathew’s cousins and his college friends when one of Marcos younger cousin asked them for a picture.
I should probably catch you up as to way I’ve been saying people starting or pointing at us during the wedding. Also with the whole room situation. They aren’t staring because we’re the only gay couple in the wedding at least for now. It’s because Mathew is a NBA player and Troy is in the NFL. I have some level of fame but nothing compared to them at this point.
“Marco told you not to ask for pictures.” One of the older brothers of one of the teenagers scrolled over him. “Don’t bother them."
They both chuckled, “It’s alright one quick picture won’t hurt.” Mathew told him.
“Come on.” Troy waved at them to come by them.”
“I’ll take it," I told them.
I grabbed their phone and took a few pictures. People noticed that had stayed in the chapel. Another one asked if he could get one with the three of us. We agreed and too the picture. I just didn’t want to take away the attention from Marco. It felt inappropriate. More of the teens from both sides of the family started coming up. I took their pictures but felt bad because we were interrupting Marco’s photos with people coming over waiting when it was their turn to go with him. I motioned to Mathew and he got the clue.
“Alright last one,” he told them, “just make it a group picture.” They all huddled up and took the picture. It stopped after that.
We finish up in here and started heading out to the garden pictures. They had a beautiful garden with multiple spots to take photos. By a lake, under a canopy and on a bridge.
“You guys must get that a lot.” One of Marco’s college friends told me. I had met some of them but I only really have talked to maybe two. We had visited each other during colllge but most of it was during holidays and some would come with him.
“Yeah.” I chuckle.
“Does it bother you.”
“No not really. It’s just awkward sometimes. More with him than with me. With me they think they know more about me like we’re friends and with him they think they know everything about him because they know all his stats. Sports fans are also more emotional ironically.” The times we’ve had bad encounters was sports fans that either loved Mathew or hated him. He had a stalker once who thought he could coach Mathew and make him a better player. He wanted to take control of his career to take him to the next level. He showed up our apartment and we pressed charges. He had fallowed us before and I started noticing him but he must of followed us home one day. But that was two years ago before we moved. Other than that just haters from other teams when we go out or online.
“Haha yeah, his career has really taken off hasn’t it?” This last year has really skyrocketed mainly due to his performance. It’s his third year in the league.
“Yeah it’s been crazy.” I told him.
“I remember Marco telling us once that he was his friend and we didn’t believe him until he showed us proof. My whole family knows who he is now.”
“Oh yeah? He’s told me he gets that a lot at work when they talk about sports.”
“Yeah, at our hospital we call him Hollywood because he knows all of you. Mathew’s made me some money by betting on him.” Marco and Carol were both becoming doctors. Marco just finished med school and started his residency. Carol was a year older and has been one for a little over a year. I guess that how they are going to pay for the wedding. Marco’s parents also helped him. He told me he’s going to pay them back.
We finished up and go back the the hall and wait for the big entrance. Everyone else is seated. It wasn’t anything crazy we all just walk in to music and dance a bit before sitting down. The live music that entered with us went to set up. I food would be served in a few minutes. It’s set up like any wedding venue you can think of. The music is off to the left side stage. Big open dance floor in the middle, with circular tables around it. Marco and Carol sat at the front with close family at the tables around it. We were to the right of him next to his parents table. Most of his family and friends were on the right side and hers on the left but towards the back it was pretty mixed. There were probably 200-300 people here. I'm surprised they actually had people follow the table seating. Most Mexican parties are free for all. I guess they had time to make sure everyone was where they were supposed to be while we were taking pictures. Every table had ten seats. My family, Mathew, Troy, Stephine, Logan, Nina and I would sit at mine. Stephine and Logan like Mathew and I have stayed together still surprisingly. Not many high school couples make it this far. We almost didn’t. We sat down with my family and Troy. Nina was texting me that she was here and putting on her dress.
Mathew had left and brought me back a fruit cup and a banana. He knew I was hungry and the food was still going to take a while for them to ask us what we wanted and to come out.
“Did you see Kayle yet?” Mathew pointed behind us. “She’s sitting by Chris and Jace.” Marco and her had broken up two years into college but stayed friends. They're in the same career path also and have been helping each other out. I turned around to see.
“Eat one, aren’t you hungry?” He didn’t eat anything either.
“It’s fine babe I’ll wait. I’m going to go say hi.” Mathew crouched down to tell me. The music hasn’t started yet but it was loud with all the talking. Troy was over by them as well.
