The Keeper From Another World

Creatures of Instinct and Faith

Creatures of Instinct and Faith

Nov 07, 2025

Before dawn broke Ethan awoke to a soft restless hum coming from the wolf. The creature stood at the shelter door its glow shifting quickly in short pulses. The giant bird remained still but its wings twitched every few seconds. The bark creature tapped its wooden legs lightly against the ground as if echoing the tremor from the forest.

Ethan rose and placed a hand on each of them. Their breathing slowed. They leaned against his touch, searching for calm. All three knew the forest was waking again.

Villagers gathered outside with torches and bags of supplies. Some brought cloth some brought cooked food some brought herbs Mira requested. The elder stood in the center holding the carved staff Ethan used yesterday. He handed it back with solemn emphasis. It had become a symbol now.

Mira approached with the same satchel from before but heavier this time. She added more powders more salves and even a small clay bottle she said came from deep forest traditions. She told Ethan it helped stabilize magical imbalance when used at the right moment. She placed her hand on his chest and said quietly she would pray for him and for the creatures.

The wolf stepped forward and sniffed the charm around Ethan’s neck then hummed gently as if acknowledging Mira’s blessing. The giant bird stretched its wings and folded them again in a controlled slow movement that felt like readiness. The bark creature shook itself lightly making soft dry sounds like wind brushing through leaves.

The scout the healer and the mage met Ethan at the gate.
The scout bowed deeply toward the creatures.
The healer whispered respect in her tongue.
The mage swallowed nervously but knelt to examine the glow in the wolf’s fur with honest curiosity.

They began walking toward the forest.
The villagers watched with wide uncertain eyes.
Some held hands.
Some whispered hope.
Some whispered fear.

At the forest entrance the wolf stopped and pressed its glowing head to the ground. The light expanded in a faint circle around its paws. The mage gasped and said the wolf was sensing the direction of the strongest imbalance. Ethan followed the wolf’s gesture and they walked deeper.

As they moved branches shifted overhead though no wind blew. Leaves rustled softly. The forest reacted to the creatures more than the humans. Birds perched above them and watched in silence. Small animals emerged from roots and stared with glowing eyes then scattered before the tremors returned.

When they reached the glowing stream the wolf lowered its snout to the water. The glow rippled outward as if responding to the wolf’s presence. The bird stepped forward and dipped a wingtip into the water. The surface pulsed again. The bark creature approached and tapped its wooden hoof lightly on the glowing stones near the edge. The stones brightened.

The healer whispered in awe.
All three creatures were connected to the core.
Ethan felt the truth settle inside him.

They continued until they reached the lake. Fog drifted low across the surface. The ancient creature’s shell rose slowly when they arrived. Its eye opened and locked onto Ethan then onto the three creatures beside him. The wolf stepped closer and hummed, a tone that vibrated the air. The bird answered with a deep rumble. The bark creature placed its hoof against the shell gently.

The ancient creature responded.
Its glow steadied for a moment.
Its tremble slowed.

The mage nearly fell to his knees in surprise.
The healer wiped her eyes as if seeing something sacred.

Ethan placed his hand against the creature’s massive shell.
He felt the energy align for a brief second.
The wolf’s glow pulsed rhythmically.
The bird’s feathers brightened.
The bark creature’s wooden skin shifted with faint cracks of light.

The ancient creature breathed deeper.

But the moment did not last.

A violent tremor crashed through the ground.
The lake erupted in bright unstable pulses.
Branches shook.
Rocks cracked.

The wolf growled low.
The bird spread its wings to shield Ethan and the team.
The bark creature pressed against Ethan’s legs.

Then Ethan felt it.

A pull
A surge
A deep dragging force beneath the roots.

The core was collapsing.

Ethan steadied himself and shouted a single word that everyone understood even without language.

“Move.”

They followed the roots back toward the underground chamber.
The creatures led the way responding to every tremor.
The scout pushed forward quickly.
The mage steadied the air.
The healer held her relics tight.

When they reached the chamber the moss writhed violently like a living creature in panic. The glowing veins flickered without rhythm. The pool at the center pulsed too fast like a heart beating itself apart.

The wolf stepped forward and howled softly.
The bird released a low long call.
The bark creature pressed its hoof to the glowing ground.

All three creatures glowed brighter in response to the core.
Their bodies trembled.
Their energy resonated.

Ethan realized the truth.

The forest was not rejecting the creatures.
It was calling them.

This was not coincidence.
This was connection.

The ancient creature was a guardian.
The wolf the bird and the bark creature were fragments of the same balance.
And the core needed them to survive.

Ethan turned to the team and said with calm steady voice even without knowing if they understood the words:

“We don’t heal the forest alone.
They do.”
