The Counselor From Another Realm

The Echo That Learns to Speak

The Echo That Learns to Speak

Nov 07, 2025

They left the ruined building with the demon child held safely between Daniel and Elara. The demon envoy stayed close on guard scanning every corner of the abandoned quarter. The silence felt wrong. Not empty. Expectant.

Daniel felt the lingering traces of Echo presence like cold threads drifting through the air. They had shown him visions not to break him but to understand him. To learn the shape of his fears. That meant their next attack would be sharper. More personal.

Elara kept glancing at him her voice low. Daniel you are shaking.

He forced a slow breath. I am alright. Just drained. They reached deeper than before.

The envoy spoke quietly. Their influence is stronger in places soaked with old grief. But if they can reach you anywhere they will grow bold.

Daniel nodded. They are evolving. Adapting. They now know how to speak through memories. They will not stop.

When they stepped out of the quarter and back into the city the contrast was jarring. People bustled in the streets though uneasily. Children clung to their parents. Merchants whispered behind carts. Patrols doubled at every corner.

The moment Daniel was recognized murmurs spread. People pointed. Some with hope. Some with fear.

Elara muttered This is exactly the atmosphere the Echo wants. Confused. Scared. Looking for someone to blame.

Daniel spoke softly to the child You are safe now. But you must stay somewhere secure. Somewhere with people who cannot be easily manipulated.

The girl nodded clinging to his sleeve. They said they will speak through the city. They said they will whisper to everyone.

The envoy frowned. Whisper what.

The child swallowed. Lies. But mixed with truths. Enough truth to make people believe.

Daniel turned toward the central square. He sensed something pulling him. A flow of emotions gathering like a storm.

When they arrived the square was full of shouting. A crowd had gathered around a raised platform where a royal messenger stood pale and shaking. He held a scroll his hands trembling.

Daniel pushed through the crowd Elara and the envoy guarding his sides. The messenger lifted the scroll reading it with a forced steady voice. The royal statement claims the Echo threat has been contained. Citizens should remain calm.

The crowd erupted in anger. Contained lies shouted a man. My brother saw shadows near the barracks. Another woman yelled My child woke screaming from dreams she never had before.

Elara whispered They are losing trust.

Daniel felt the Echo’s influence moving through the crowd like threads of dark smoke weaving between people. Their fear was rising. Their anger shifting. The Echo was steering their emotions like a puppeteer.

Daniel stepped onto the platform beside the messenger. The crowd quieted slightly at the sight of him but the tension did not ease.

He raised his voice just enough to carry. This fear you feel is not a sign of weakness. It is a sign that you care about your lives your families your kingdom. But fear that is not understood becomes something dangerous. Something the Echo can twist.

People exchanged uncertain glances. Daniel continued We are not here to hide anything from you. The Echo attacked us. They took a child. They tried to isolate us. They tried to turn our own thoughts against us. But they failed because we stood together. Human and demon. Side by side.

A few people looked toward the demon envoy with surprise. He stepped forward lifting his chin. My people have suffered the Echo’s influence as much as yours. We have lost families. Tribes. Entire villages. This enemy does not care what race we are. It only cares that we fear each other.

Daniel nodded. And that is why they will fail. Because today you saw humans and demons standing together. Not fighting. Not blaming. Listening.

The crowd’s fear began to loosen but Daniel could sense the Echo becoming agitated. A faint pressure built in the air.

A child near the front suddenly screamed. She clutched her head falling to the ground. Her mother rushed to her crying her name.

Daniel’s blood went cold. Echo influence. Direct. Brutal.

Then another citizen collapsed. Then another.
Cries rose through the square.
The crowd panicked.
People backed away with trembling hands.

Daniel jumped down from the platform rushing to the first child. Her eyes twitched as if she were trapped inside a nightmare. He held her hand speaking soft grounding words. You are here. You are safe. This fear is not yours.

The pressure intensified. Shadows flickered across the buildings. The Echo was not content to observe anymore. They were attacking the entire city.

Elara shouted Daniel it is spreading.

The demon envoy drew a blade. This is no longer whispers. This is a siege.

Daniel lifted the child into her mother’s arms. Listen to me he said loudly to the crowd. Do not give the fear a home. Look at the people beside you. Touch the ground. Feel your own breath. These thoughts attacking you are not yours.

The crowd did not calm all at once but several people steadied slightly. A man placed a hand on his chest breathing slowly. A woman held her daughter closely forcing herself to stay calm.

Daniel turned to Elara and the envoy. The Echo is raising their voice. They are done hiding. They are ready for war.

Elara asked Then what do we do now.

Daniel looked toward the palace the guild hall the streets trembling with terrified citizens.

We prepare. We unify. We teach people how to fight fear itself. Not with blades. Not with magic. With understanding. With truth. With each other.

The demon envoy nodded. Then the real battle begins now.

Daniel exhaled deeply.
The Echo had learned to speak.
They had learned to strike at minds directly.
And the next time they spoke they might try to break the entire world at once.
