Chapter 6

New start

“The first period, which is literature, starts at 8:00 and ends at 8:45,” Rafe says. “Each period is 45 minutes long. After each period, there is a five-minute break that you can use to find your books, and then the next period is art.” A short break. “At 9:35, there is a half-hour break where we can do whatever we want. At 10:05, classes start again, where you have history. After history, another five minutes to find your things, and then you have science at 10:55. Then there is a half-hour break, at 11:40. After the break, we have dragon training.” He looks at me. “Did you get all that?” 

I look up at him. 

“Yes, got it.” 

“Okay. Dinner is in ten minutes, should we go?” 

“Yes, that would be great.”

We walk out of the room and into the large hallway. There are large windows everywhere and many of them are painted with some different colors and form a beautiful work of art, which also creates a beautiful glow on the ground. After a while we come to a large door, which Rafe opens for me. We enter a large hall with long tables along the length of the room and there are many people sitting and eating. We go down to a table and sit at the end of it. There is already food on the table, it is a bowl of soup with vegetables in it. It looks delicious. I take the spoon and taste it. 

“That is really good.” I say. 

“It is good that you like it. I will go and get some juice, do you want some?”

“Yes, please.” 

Rafe gets up from his seat and goes to the canteen lady. 

I feel someone tapping me on the shoulder from behind. I turn around and see Alex. 

“Hi again Leo!” he says with a smile. 

“Hi, Alex.” Alex sits on the other side of me with his soup. 

“Where is your little friend?”

“Rafe?”

“Yeah, whatever his name is.”

Rafe comes back and sees Alex and stops. He stands there for a while and then he walks over to me and Alex and sits down on the other side of me.

“Juice.” Rafe says, looking suspiciously at Alex, and hands me one of the juices he has in his hand. 

I look at Alex and then back at Rafe. They stare at each other intently.

“What are you doing here, Alex?” Rafe asks.

“Just hanging out with Leo.” Alex replies.

They snicker at each other a little.

I wonder what’s going to happen in my life now. I feel like I’ve entered a whole new world.
