Chapter 3: The start of the end
The next day lessons truly started. The first one was about the primordial rystals which was the thing Pierce wanted to learn more about. The class consists of 12 lessons and a final exam focusing on doing a spell with a crystal successfully. Today the focus was on the different elements of magic.
Pierce arrived to class 6 minutes early and started to prepare for doing notes. He had a notebook and a sharp pencil with him. He knew the teacher would be mad if he didn’t have one with him. Little by little students started to pour in to the classroom. Scott sat next to him and they started talking.
“I’m so excited, man,” Scott said eagerly.
“Me too. I hope the teacher is nice,” Pierce replied.
“Excuse me everyone. Sorry that I’m late. Your planned teacher has so many courses this period so I will teach you this class,” said someone at the door.
All students went quiet and look at the man at the door. It was Seth. He was going to be their teacher for this class. The smiles quickly vanished and everybody was nervous.
“Don’t worry. You’ll be in good hands. If Jackson was going to teach you this class, you wouldn’t pay attention. He’s quite... careless," Seth stated.
Pierce and Scott looked at each other and knew that this class wasn’t going to be as fun as they expected. Pierce’s thoughts on Seth were once again mixed up.
“Let’s start this lesson, shall we,” Seth asked.
For the next thirty minutes Seth talked about every primordial crystal element there was. There are a total of 8 different elements: aqua, fire, ice, thunder, nature, gravity, wind and acid. Pierce was confused. How about soul magic? Pierce decided to raise his hand.
Seth noticed and asked: ” Yes, Pierce. Do you have a question?”
“How about soul magic? Isn’t it one of the elements?," Pierce asked.
Seth’s face looked surprised. He sighed and looked at Pierce with a serious face.
”Soul magic has been forbidden for almost as long as it has existed. It is used to control people’s minds and bodies. Using it will corrupt anyone who uses it. You will never be allowed to use it here. We will never talk about it again. Okay?," Seth explained fiercely.
”R… right,” Pierce answered carefully.
The lesson continued normally. All of the students did assignments related to the primordial crystals.
Pierce was still thinking about how Seth answered that question. Seth felt a little nervous.
Pierce thought to himself: “Maybe he was just trying to protect us students”
The next few weeks were rough because Seth was very strict when it came to performing magic. The students weren’t really given opportunities to practice using magic with the crystals. Pierce had heard that the other classes of the same topic were allowed to practice magic. Something seemed off about this class especially.
